The silence overwhelmed Erica as she sat quietly at one of the library's many tables. She turned over page after page of her latest book, "Pride and Prejudice." Oh how she loved those classic romance novels. The witty exchanges between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth were enough to take her mind off of life for awhile. Books were her distraction.
Too much had been going on lately. Erica rather dreaded going home at night. Her dad often was working and had little time to spend with his children. Jona was too much for Erica to handle all on her own. It was times like these that she missed her mother the most. At ten years old, Jona had a wild streak. Left alone, he could come up with all kinds of dangerous ideas. Such as testing weather or not certain articles of clothing are flamable. He bruned a hole in Erica's favorite pair of jeans the week earlier. (Though he had apologized profusely afterward.) " I guess it's just part of what makes Jona so.....him" she thought, smiling at the recollection of her younger brother.
Erica sighed and returned to her book, flipping a lock of blond hair over her shoulder absentmindedly. Her mind wandered, no longer paying attention to Mr. Darcy and his fictional romance. Instead she pondered her own plans for the evening.
