Personality
Although Rebecca, or Becky as she prefers to be called, is hardly the preppy cheer leader her sister makes her out to be, she isn't the outgoing rebel that Maya is. In fact, she is the withdrawn part of the family, the parent pleasing, straight A getting girl with a very vague wild streak. She is a sigh of relief for her parents, who were unsure whether they'd end up with another drama queen. Although Maya talks of her as if she is some sort of horrible disgrace to her reputation, the sisters are more alike then either would care to admit. Don't get me wrong however, there is no quiet, shy section of the Folten family. However, she is caught in an angsty teenage stage that makes her a bit more temperamental then usual.
Generally though, Becky is not quick to show the vulnerable side of her, and is for the most part a happy go lucky sort of gal. Another trait of hers, that is once again extremely similar to her older sister's, is her hard determination to get something done. When she sets her mind on something, there is no changing it. Ever. She is fiercely dependent, but thoughtful, sometimes at odd times. A lot of this personality section will be spent disproving things said about her by her sister, and the picture of her that gets painted by Maya is altogether not a pleasant one. A snobby cheer leader is not farther from the truth. But it is a well known fact that Becky and her sister distance themselves from each other by making so many lines that cannot be crossed between them. It is a sad fact, that one day two sisters that are so alike in their personality whatever they thought, might have such a strained relationship. Maya dislikes how Becky seems to have everything she doesn't, but that's not exactly true either.
Appearance
Becky's eyes are a very unique tone of hazel. The irises are a bright coppery tone, ringed in a slight bit of forest green. Her eyes are slightly small, but it hardly detracts from her appearance. Flecks of lighter colors are barely visible, blending into the original amber tone. Her pupils are ringed in a heavy ebony tone, a very defined ring. Dark eyebrows define her forehead, below them long lashes of the same tone. Becky's hair has very little of the volume that Maya's does. It is lank, hanging down to her collar bone. Swoop bangs dip low across her forehead, and occasionally she pins them back so that they aren't visible. Her auburn locks are a shade darker then the brown in her eyes, and have very few highlights or lowlights. Very slight waves hang towards the ends, but for the most part her hair is extremely straight. Becky has the same porcelain skin as Maya, although she has no freckles, and her complexion doesn't have the olive tinge that Maya's does. Her face is a soft, oval shape. The rest of Becky's features are delicate and refined, perfectly proportioned to her pale face. Her nose is angled upward very slightly above soft pink lips.
As for her clothing, Becky has quite a range. She has a lot of beaten up hoodies when she is just hanging out, but when it is required she feels just as comfortable in slightly more fancy clothes. She lives for her skinny jeans, perhaps even more then her sister, but is slightly girlier in her dress. She was never the tomboy that Maya was, but she is not terribly girly, and she hates the color pink based on principal. Becky tends to stick to brand name clothes more than Maya does, and wears mostly graphic tee-shirts that hang close to her slim frame. Becky is relatively slender in her build, and at 14 is a bit taller then her sister who is three years older than her. She stands 5'7 though the difference seems more then that because of her different build.
History
Rebecca Kay Folten was born on July 14, 1994 in Augustus, Maine. She was a quiet child, slender but tall for her age, and she immediately established herself as the shy one in the Folten clan. Eventually, she would start to open up, but the dark haired toddler was a very low maintenance creature at first. She was a relief for her parents, who were struggling with the 4 year old Maya, already outgoing and clamoring for the attention of her peers. Maya was a wild child, waste length dark hair looking even longer on her toddler frame. So you can imagine the fear that Rebecca would become the same way. However, immediately Rebecca proved that Maya's rebelling gene didn't exactly run in the family. She was perfectly content to sit alone and play quietly with her toys while her parents ran around trying to keep up with Maya. Even at an early age, it was evident that the two sisters were distant, and seemed to view themselves as extremely different, hardly even family. For the first couple years this was true, but steadily little similarities between them seem to be aroused, no matter how hard they tried to push them down.
In 2000, shortly after Becky's 6th birthday, the family moved to Lakeland. Maya was completely blind sighted by the move, and spent a good many days declaring war on the family. She had calmed down a slight bit, and she could communicate her actions to others with more accuracy which made it less of a guessing game, but she was still determined to be different from everybody else. six year old Becky had very few objections to this move, because not only were they moving during the summer, and she could start a brand new year as a brand new person the next year. She didn't have the enormous circle of friends that Maya did. She had no desire to stay in the place where she had made a name for herself as the quiet girl who doesn't cry. At six years old, Becky knew she wanted to leave Maine and never return. She had no affection for her child hood town. She needed something new. The day Becky finally voiced this decision, she saw a flicker of pride in Maya's eyes, despite how unhappy her older sister was with the situation. She took her parents by surprise, and they were shocked to hear the determination in her voice. But eventually, her quiet determination would be one of her most memorable traits.
In 2002, Becky turned eight. She had started to break out of her shell, making her 12 year old sister proud. In truth, this period started the time when Becky started to look up to Maya. Before now, she'd always disassociated herself with her sister, believing the two so different it was impossible that they were family. But she started behaving similar, if a little bit less rashly, to Maya. She did things that she would've otherwise never done to get attention drawn to herself. The lanky eight year old often participated in little pranks that weren't big enough to get her in trouble. She seemed to be starving for Maya's affection, for her pride, and do Maya proud she did. Maya was suddenly quite pleased to bring the third grader wherever she went, and when people raised their eyebrows she shot them a look that plainly stated to bite her. But Becky was straying from her true character. She was so desperate to earn Maya's approval, that she ignored every fiber in her body telling her that she didn't really enjoy doing this kind of thing as much as Maya. One day she told her sister this, and once again the crevice that had closed for a long while between them opened up again. Maya disassociated herself with her sister, and once again preferred to operate on her own.
Now almost fourteen, her relationship with Maya is still terribly strained. Most of the time Maya describes her as a stuck up popular who is more interested in what she was wearing that day then world hunger. It doesn't help that, unlike Maya who has the capabilities to easily be getting A's but doesn't, Becky takes advantage of her intelligence, and actually works at school. Nobody would ever guess that once upon a time Becky was Maya's shadow, and Maya brought her younger sister proudly with her everywhere she went. She is still relatively quiet, although not so painfully so. She has a wide circle of friends, but completely different friends from Maya's. She gets picked on occasionally, but usually can make anyone do anything she wants them to, if she chooses to. However, manipulating people is not a skill she is proud to have.
