Where does it come from—this quest, this need to solve life's mysteries when the simplest of questions can never be answered? Why are we here? What is the soul? Why do we dream? Perhaps we'd be better off not looking at all. Not delving, not yearning. But that's not human nature. Not the human heart. That is not why we are here.
Evolution has been springing up everywhere nowadays. First documented cases were of a cheerleader, walking through fire without any burns. A man who was able to break out of prison by walking through walls. A man who claimed he could paint the future. Civilians even claimed to see a man flying through the daytime sky. Are these evolutions connected? Are all of these people connected in one span of DNA? And what about the plain people; the mortals. How will they react to these super powered human beings?
This quest, this need to solve life's mysteries—in the end, what does it matter when the human heart can only find meaning in the smallest of moments? They're here—among us. In the shadows, in the light, everywhere. Do they even know yet?
Now with Maya Herrera, Gabriel Gray (otherwise known as the notorious serial killer Sylar) has ventured forth to New York City in hopes of finding Mohinder Suresh, a DNA analyst who has been studying the traits of blood in these evolved humans. With his powers repressed, Sylar is hoping that Mohinder will be able to call forth his powers and once again become the feared killer that he once was. Furthermore in New York, Noah Bennet is currently being held in the Company's private holding rooms, his body being restored due to a transfusion of his daughter's healing blood. Claire and the rest of the Bennet family know that her father is now held in New York, and she is on her way to rescue him. Hot on the tail of the Bennets, Elle Bishop has been assigned to take out Claire by any means possible, orders given to her by her father Bob Bishop, head of the Company.
We all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise or when we fall? Or does a force larger than ourselves bid us our direction? Is it evolution that takes us by the hand? Does science point our way? Or is it God who intervenes, keeping us safe?
Adam Monroe, now teamed up with Peter Petrelli, has made his way to New York City as well, attempting to convince Peter's brother Nathan to join their cause. Hiro Nakamura and his best friend Ando are on also in New York City, attempting to bring down Adam Monroe even if it means killing Peter Petrelli, their one comrade. Hiro has also traveled back in time to bring back Yaeko Kensei, the woman he fell in love with in the past. The three are teaming together, plotting ways to bring down Adam considering he is virtually indestructible. Hiro has called up a previous friend and allay, Niki Sanders. She and her son, as well as their New Orleans family have decided to move to New York City as they are being called for something bigger and badder than they have ever dealt with before. With new evolved humans popping up all over the country, they're all seemingly being brought forth to New York City. Something big and bad is going to go down; resulting in the 9th wonder.
For all his bluster, it is the sad province of man that he cannot choose his triumph. He can only choose how he will stand when the call of destiny comes, hoping that he will have the courage to answer.
