Six-fifteen on the dot. That was when she awoke. Not exactly by her choice - at least, not of the moment as she rolled over and hit the top of her alarm to get it to shut up. Brown eyes stared blearily at the hands, then focused on the slimmer hand following the moving tick of the seconds as it proceeded what seemed like rapidly from the fifteen to the twenty to the twenty-five. She really ought to get up, she knew, but it was always an effort every morning to convince her body that, yes, she really did need to get out of bed, roll on over to take a shower, and only after that would she feel nearly awake enough to put on makeup. Nearly.

The first step of the entire plan, however, is to actually move. The only problem was that outside of covers was freezing, and underneath was nice and cosy. Darn it for being early enough that the sun was still working on warming up Hogwarts. She sighed. Three minutes had passed, and if she didn’t get up soon, her alarm would yell at her again. And, knowing how she was before she got food, the chances of said alarm clock surviving to see the next day were very slim. And she needed her alarm, no matter how much she may just hate it.

It was with considerable effort that she managed convince herself that covers were overrated, grabbed the sweats, tee, and sweatshirt she had placed on top of her trunk the night before, and ran for the showers.

Twenty minutes later she was feeling significantly less groggy as she plopped herself back onto her bed, throwing her nightclothes on her trunk to fold before she left. Fifteen minutes after that, her bed was made, her nightclothes folded and placed neatly at the foot of her bed, and she was on her way to the Great Hall, the alluring scent of food calling her every step of the way.

People were different. Some couldn’t function in the mornings without their coffee. Some just couldn’t function period until they’d been up for a while. Others, like a certain Maggie Gallihad, couldn’t function without food. It didn’t actually have to be breakfast food either - as long as it was tasty, it would give her the energy she needed not to become the next Severus Snape. Oh, pardon. Professor Snape, as he ought to be called. Either way, it was a reputation she wished to avoid.

And then there were the weirdos that bounced out of bed and could take anything the morning threw at them. Not only were they weirdos in her opinion, they were also somewhat deranged. Granted, that opinion became much less harsh after she ate, but she still thought them bizarre.

She helped herself to a kipper, two rolls, some scrambled eggs, a sausage and a small bowl of porridge. Quite a bit of food, perhaps, but it was more or less her average morning meal. She poured herself a glass of orange juice and pulled her Arithmancy homework out of her schoolbag. It was complete, yes, for she had finished it the day before stretched out beneath a tree near the lake. Still, though, there were a few things that she had thought of during her shower that made her want to look over it again before she headed off to class.

“Now what was it that was bothering me?” Maggie mused as she stared at the sea of numbers on her homework. It made sense to her when she wrote it, but now, as it was daytime and she was still trying to kick start her mind and body, the numbers could have been Greek for all she was seeing. She shook her head, trying to clear the fogginess. “More food. Yeah, that’s what I need.” On that note, she ladled a spoonful of sausage-topped porridge into her mouth and looked around the Great Hall. It was early enough that there were only a few people around - the crazy morning crew. Or the crazy-we’ve-yet-to-sleep crew. Either way though, she was pretty sure she didn’t really see anyone terribly exciting, so drew her attention back down to her homework.

“Amazing what a bite or six of food can do,” a triumphant utter. The numbers actually were starting to look like numbers! She started at the very beginning, alternating between eating and running a finger down her homework, re-calculating the numbers in her mind as she went.

She had plenty of time before her first class, and took her time perusing the parchment, determined to recall what it was that she thought of and now was having issues recalling.
