Starring
Katherine McPhee
as
Marlene Evetta McKinnon

__in dreams we enter a world that's entirely our own

Name: Marlene Evetta McKinnon
Nicknames: Marlzy
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Year: 5th
Birthday: February 14th
House: Ravenclaw
Wand: rosewood, unicorn hair, 11½”

__time is making fools of us again

Hair: dark chocolate brown
Eyes: dark brown
Height: about 5'4"
Weight: 126 lbs. exactly
Build: She is on the skinnier side, as she would never let herself get unhealthy that way. She isn't very strong, however, seeing as she doesn't much like sports.
Distinguishing Features: Marlene has a stunning smile, one that many people notice. A less obvious and certainly much less attractive feature would be an oddly shaped birthmark on the side of her neck which she usually tries to coneal in any way she can.
Personal Style: She has a high standard for proper fashion, so she takes her clothing very seriously. When not in required Hogwarts uniform, she can usually be seen in casual jeans and a fancier top. She absolutely loves to accessorize, and so she often wears some combination of necklaces, bracelets and earrings. She might even throw in a colorful belt if she’s feeling particularly outgoing. The bottom line is, Marlene takes much pride in presenting herself daily, and she stops at no limits to make sure that she looks the best she absolutely can.

Overall Appearance: Although Marlene is a rather naturally beautiful girl, in her eyes, you can never be too beautiful. She is rather girly, and being so she often wears any normal type of makeup, such as blush, eye shadow, mascara, and her savior when needed: cover up. These things she feels accentuate what she has been given naturally and make them shine to their best potential.
One of the things that she cannot and refuses to change is her hair. She simply adores her chocolate brown hair and usually wears it in gentle curls. She can spend an entire afternoon dressing herself properly for a party, and rest assured that at least two hours of that time would be spent on her hair alone. It is, in her eyes, her best natural feature and she flaunts it for all it is worth.

Her eyes are also a dark brown, although not as spectacular as Marlene would hope. They aren’t a pretty almond shape; they’re just plain old round. They aren’t sparkly blue or a green that changes colors in the light; they’re just brown. Although Marlene would prefer to have more exotic eyes, she deals with what she’s got.

Marlene is about average height for her age. She likes her height because she isn’t overly short, but she isn’t so tall that she’s taller than all of the decent men out there. To her, 5’4” is about as perfect as it gets in that region. She is rather small in build, making her seem quite fragile in appearance. She never lets herself go over 130 pounds in weight—she’s a bit paranoid that way. Thankfully, she doesn’t keep herself at an unhealthfully low weight, so anorexia is never a problem for her.

Gets along with: Marlene gets along with mostly anybody as long as they are able to keep an open mind. This basically means that high-strung ‘I’m better than you are’ pureblood Slytherin types do not fare well with Marlene. Now, she does not discriminate against Slytherins solely based on house, but she finds this personality most common within the snakes, so she usually keeps her distance. However, should some nice Slytherin come along and make an effort at friendship, Marlzy will more than happily oblige. She loves to party and is always high-spirited, and usually anyone who can be the same way will be a good friend to Marlzy.

Overall Personality: Marlene is the epitome of girliness. She is a bright, happy character with lots of grins, giggles, and personality. She is friendly and kind, getting along with many people who share her spontaneity. She is very outgoing and always willing to make a new friend, and once you do befriend her, she is the most loyal and defensive friend anyone could possibly have. She can keep a secret like no other and she will die before she betrays anyone’s trust.

Marlene is steadfast and strong, despite her somewhat frail looks, and she can catch anyone off guard. Being so prim and proper, no one would expect her to be a stout fighter, but she can wield her wand just like the rest of them. Her quick thinking and vast knowledge of spells often lead her to a victory when confronted with something threatening that must be dealt with. Most of the time, however, she prefers to back off and would much rather not have to resort to wand duels to resolve any conflict that might arise.

Being a Ravenclaw, it is quite obvious that schoolwork and studies are very important to her. Marlene gets along very well in mostly all of her classes. Her favorite class by far is Charms, perhaps only for the name. It just sounds so cheerful and bright, much like Marlene herself. It usually does not take long for her to master a spell, and if one is more difficult, she will study on her own until she has it fully down. She is very determined, and if she has set her mind to doing something, you can bet 100% that she will do it.

Family is especially important to Marlene, and just like she will do for her friends, if anything ever harms her family she will be the first to defend. Marlene loves to spend quality time with her family, especially her brother and her last living grandmother, Gramma Pearl. Marlene just loves the stories that her grandmother can tell, even though the frail woman is not a witch. It only proves to Marlene that you don’t have to be magical to be interesting and that blood status doesn’t matter at all, because it is because of Gramma Pearl that she is a halfblood and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Marlene is a strong believer in having fun, no matter the cost, and she is determined to get the most out of her life. She loves going to parties and hanging out with her friends. She is bold and courageous when it comes to boys, and she can often be seen casually flirting with more than one boy in any given night. She can be a little more wild and reckless once she’s had a few drinks in her, but most of the time she can keep herself from doing anything completely embarrassing.

Marlene may seem a little edgy, and she definitely does have her personality facets, but all these sides, her girly nature, her boyish attitude, and her stubborn mindsets create the Marlene McKinnon that her family and few close friends have come to love and adore.

History: Marlene is a halfblood due to the fact that she has a Muggle grandparent on both sides. Her paternal grandfather, Luther McKinnon Sr. was indeed a Muggle, but young pureblood daughter Mary Jacobs pined for him anyways. Although her parents did not approve of the idea at first, Luther was such a charming gentleman that eventually he won over their hearts. They were married three years after Mary finished school, and together the couple had two sons, Luther Alden and Isaac Aldridge, the latter unfortunately killed at a fairly young age. Marlene at that time was 10 and had grown to love her uncle dearly and was quite shaken up when he was gone.

Marlene’s mother’s parents are a different story. They were both of stout, pureblood families, and so they were engaged at quite a young age, when Oliver was 5 and Pearla only 2 years old. They grew to be quite fond of each other as playmates and they became best friends, a good start to any loving relationship. However, while Oliver was growing into a fine young wizard, Pearla was showing no signs of magic whatsoever. Her parents feared that she was a Squib, and when no Hogwarts letter came to her after her eleventh birthday, their fears were confirmed. They were quite ashamed of their Squib daughter, but Oliver looked upon his childhood friend and betrothed with no less affection. Even though Oliver’s parents demanded the wedding be called off, Oliver took his bride away to be married secretly, and so they were. They were later blessed with two daughters, the eldest being Olivia Louise and their second Evetta Darlene, Marlene’s mother.

Evetta and Luther were both talented students of magic, and they met at Hogwarts in a rather unusual way. Luther was a seventh year Ravenclaw, Evetta a first year Hufflepuff. Poor Evetta was being picked on by some rather annoying and bothersome Slytherins when Luther, Head Boy at the time, came to the rescue. Evetta always looked up to him after that, but of course, Luther could not share the child’s soft affections.

Much later in life, however, Evetta was taken to work with her father as an intern for the Ministry. She didn’t much like the work she found there, but she did like something else. Luther McKinnon, now a respected member of the Ministry, found her behind her reception desk, not recognizing her at all. After a few casual flirts and recalled memories on Evetta’s part, Luther realized the young girl he had saved from the hands of Slytherins thirteen years ago. She was now a beautiful young woman, and he could appreciate who she really was in a romantic sense.

Luther began to court Evetta was as much dignity as any young wizard would, and Evetta’s parents couldn’t say no. Nor could Evetta herself. They were married within a year of the day they had reunited, and their first child, our young star Marlene made an appreance only seven months after the wedding. (Yes, we all see something fishy about that, but keep it hush hush. :])

From the day she was born, Marlene Evetta McKinnon was the little girl her parents had always dreamed of, and being such, she was showered with presents and pink. Of course, you can see where her naturally girly nature comes from. Until the age of three, she was the only thing her mother ever saw, and the only thing her father truly cared about, besides Evetta, of course. Since Evetta had not liked what she’d seen at the Ministry, she had dropped all career options in order to be fully present for anything her new daughter might need.

Marlene was quite a fussy child, always needing to be held or fed or snuggled or taken care of. She was a princess, the apple of her parents’ eye and the only purpose for their existence. That is, until Alden came along.

At first, Marlene completely loathed her little brother. He was always whiny, fussy and crying. He occupied almost all of her mother’s attention, leaving none left for poor little Marlene. This was when she first showed signs of her magical ability. She would often throw fits, causing something near her to burst unexpectedly. No one got hurt during her tantrums, fortunately, but it still didn’t work very well. Thus, the beginning of Marlene’s growing up.

Luckily, Marlene came to see her brother as a fun kid and a good friend as the two grew older. Although he still annoys her to no end, she no longer wishes to drop him in the dumpster at the end of the street on which they live, which would be bad. She assumed her role of older sister quite nicely and now finds it her duty to protect her little brother from any harm that might come to him.

Marlene grew in many ways, showing her intelligence, feminism, and determination in all aspects of her life. When at the age of eleven she finally received her letter to Hogwarts, she was ecstatic to try something new. She was at first a little nervous about leaving her parents whom she had relied on for so long, but she quickly got over that and started to gain her self-reliance. Her independence and courage grew stronger every day, and while she still couldn’t live without her family, she has grown into a strong, beautiful young woman, able to fend for herself and for the ones she loves.
