welcome

As everyone knows, Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago by the four greatest wizards of the age; Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. However, what most people didn’t know about the four founders was what Salazar really left over. Hogwarts has a dark secret that has been kept since its founding. Something has been trapped and hidden within the belly of Hogwarts, waiting over a thousand years to get out. Welcome to What Lies Within. Are you ready for the year to come?

Quote of the Month
"You know what, never mind that -- here's what you're going to do. You are going to help me get out of detention. You are going to be my alibi ... though really, we ought to dress you up some. You can't keep me out of trouble if you look as you do now ... No one would believe I was with you." - Patricia Crowe --- BAD NEWS for you

Sexual Orientation: Bi, though this is heavily supressed and to the ooutside world he is entirely straight.
Personality: To the casual observer, Al is somewhat snooty and reserved. It is true to note that he tends to develop a sense of superiosity when he feels insecure, and his quietness mostly stems from the fact that as a child he pretty much gave up trying to be outgoing because everyone else seemed to be so much more naturally outgoing than he. But that's not to say that Al is a bonafide introvert, when he wants to he can make his point, and he would quite happily give a speech to a roomful of people if he felt that the occasion called for it. He isn't shy, he just prefers to relax with a book rather than leading a rally on his Sunday afternoons.

For that is another of Al's key attributes, he is level headed. Rather than rush into things, guns blazing, he will sit back and plan his actions, collect his thoughts before acting. It is a very rare occasion when he raises his voice in the presence of other people, Albus prefers to vent his feelings in private. He tends to bottle up his emotions rather than let tham all out, such that they spill out in a rant all at once. During these rants, Al tends to say things he doesn't really mean, wishing death upon his family, wishing he was an only child, wishing he'd never been born, and the suchlike. Afterwards, when he's calmed down, he tends to feel guilty, but consoles himself that nobody heard and that nothing's going to come of it (though in light of recent events it's looking like this mantra will have to be changed).

Al's calm temperament makes him a good listener, he enjoys giving people advice and will listen to their concerns, no matter how trivial, with a strange patience. He's also quite generous, in short, Al likes making other people happy (though he tends to feel irritated if someone else gets in there before him, as it were, especially if that person is either a family member or a Gryffindor). A good sense of order and logic helps him out in sticky situations, and Al harbours vague hopes of becoming a kind of agony aunt (or should that be uncle?), and this helping him to find a girlfriend (a more important short term task). He's quite picky over what he wants in a girl, however, the small student body at Hogwarts not exactly helping matters.

A strong sense of detemination is ingrained in Al's personality, if he wants to acheive something badly enough, often he will go to desperate (and slightly dodgy) measures to ensure they are acheived. Sometimes, he can be a little stubborn in his beliefs, and will be downright rude if anyone contradicts them too vehemently. In more jovial situations, however, Al is quite happy eo engage in a battle of wits, debating every angle of something, and usually backs down gracefully if he's proved wrong. However, if he feels he has been teased in some way, or that his pride has been hurt, Al will sulk. He is ambitious, and gets irritated if people stand in his way.

_–_Your Sob Story_–_
Mother: Ginny Potter (nee Weasley)||40||Holly Rod Harpies: Chaser, back up Seeker
Father: Harry Potter||41||Auror
Sister(s): Lily Potter||15||Gryffindor
Brother(s): James Potter||17||Head Boy, Gryffindor
History: Albus was born as the second child and second son of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley. He was a quiet baby, preferring to watch the antics of his elder brother rather than engage in such antics himself. He was brought up among hundreds of cousins it seemed, and he felt like he was constantly having to fight to make his voice heard. Much of the time, Al just couldn't be bothered.

During his childhood, for the most part, Albus was blissfully ignorant of his father's actions and the story of Voldemort. He was aware that his father was someone important, as people would stop them in the street and thenk them, his cheeks would be prodded by all manner of strangers who would coo over the Potter children in apparent fascination. Indeed, for much of his childhood he believed that they were famous primarily for his mother playing on a Quidditch team, and Al was accustomed to watching games from the Top Box.

When his brother went to Hogwarts, Al's interest in the school grew, almost to an obsession. During the holidays, James would tease him, saying he was going to be in Slytherin, and though James would have no idea how much this affected his quieter brother, Al obsessed for the best part of a year. Other Weasley's had been in Slytherin, but he was the first Potter since, well, he wouldnt think of any. Al and Rose would talk excitedly of Hogwarts and what they would do once they got there, but he didn't let on even to her his inner turmoil.

Just prior to getting on the train for his first year, Al managed to confide in his father of this battle that had been going on in his head. He knew that he'd never been particularly brave or reckless, and knew he probably wasn't smart enough to go into Ravenclaw, which left Slytherin or Hufflepuff. When he was told it didn't matter which house he was in, Al managed to relax a little bit, but still, after a long train ride to Hogwarts sitting with Rose, whom he didn't doubt would end up in Gryffindor, when the sorting hat was placed on his head, he couldn't help but be afraid.

He took a long time to sort, in actuality, he fitted quite well into any of the houses, as he had characteristics of all of them. But he would be great in Slytherin, and though he wanted Gryffindor, the hat put him in Slytherin anyway, telling him that in years to come, he would be thankful. Al bore the decision as best he could, but still he felt sick as he caught James' eye, and walked past the Gryffindor table. Harry Potter's son, a Slytherin.

During his first few weeks at Hogwarts, it became clear to Albus how little he knew about their family history, and quickly he began to indulge in trips to the library. He'd never realised that there were books written about his father, about what he'd done, and why there weren't any Potter grandparents. There were at least four unauthorised autobiographies of his life, from his birth until the present. There were interviews, backdated copies of the Daily Prophet. Albus couldn't imagine living in a time like that, all the prejudice, it seemed so primitive to him, an alien era. Along with that research, however, came the research into his own namesakes. He had a fairly sizeable collection of chocolate frog cards, and his namesake was one of the prides of his collection, even if he had six of them. Around the time, the pressure of being called Albus Severus Potter really began to hit home. He was named after two former Headmasters, one of whom was supposedly the greatest ever, according to at least half of his sources. And then there was his Dad, who had defeated the greatest Dark wizard of all time. And then there was him, a runtish eleven year old, stuck in a House he didn't really feel he belonged in, a family who were all bigger and more outgoing than he was, unable to live up to his name.

Al's first few years at Hogwarts were fairly standard, James had taken most of the brunt of being the Potter's kid the year before, so after the school got over him being sorted into Slytherin, he managed to be left pretty much alone to get on with his life. In his third year, he worked his way onto the Slytherin Quidditch team as a seeker, taking advantage of his general lack of weight to make him nimble on a broom. It was to be expected after all, his father had been the youngest Quidditch player on a team for years and years, and his mother actually played Quidditch professionally. He was generally liked by his teachers for being quiet and getting on with his work, and got on well with most of his year. Sometimes he would have insecure pangs and put on a superior act with his peers as though he were somehow above them. He did well in his OWLs, managing E's in most subjects, with a couple of A's and O's and no fails, though this was in part due to his father's advice when it came to choosing subjects and he avoided Divination like the plague. His school years were far less punctuated by meeting with Voldemort and other such distraction than his father's were, and things were very normal until the beginning of his sixth year.

Though he had never bothered taking Divination, aware that it was entirely likely he would be appalling at it, something told him right from when he first set foot in Hogwarts for his sixth beginning of year feast that things weren't right. There was a little whisper, like a distraction in the back of his head, that over the ourse of the first few weeks in Hogwarts developed into something more substantial. He called it the little laugh, as it would often itroduce itself to him as a tiny, malicious sounding laugh. It felt like he was being invaded by something he couldn't control, and he because distracted and edgy around people. It felt like everyone was looing at him, and he felt like everyone else could read his mind, read his inner thoughts.

During the first accident, Al had been catching up on on some Potions homework in the library, and by a cruel twist of fate only found out what had happened by overhearing a third year Ravenclaw (that he didn't even know the name of) telling her friends. He ran immediately to the scene of the accident where his cousin had been injured and his brother so nearly. By that time, the area had mostly been cleared up, but he was able to get a better picture from people who had actually seen what happened. It made him feel sick, and there was that little niggling thought in his brain, guilt speaking as he'd grumpily moaned about his cousin just the other day, and had wished she didn't exist, or would get injured or something so that she would know how he felt all the time. He managed to push these thoughts away, though there was another strain of the guilt in that he actually felt relieved that it was Alina rather than James that had been hurt. After the accident, things seemed like they had in childhood, the Weasley's and Potter's banded together into the tight knit group they had been when they were children, in light of the incident. But soon afterwards, he began to dream, violent dreams. And thoughts of the injuries suffered by Alina started to fade into the background as they all got over the initial shock. He'd spoken to his father once, and Harry had told him of the dreams he'd had as a teenager, when the wizarding world was at war, seeing Voldemort's thought because their minds were connected. Al had drunk it in as though it were a story of somekind, but he never really thought deeply about how it had been true. And he'd talked with his mother about her second year, when she'd been controlled by Riddle's diary (the Potter family had become a lot more open about the past in recent years). And now, he, Al, was having those same, strange dreams. As he went about his usual business, Al tended to think bitter thoughts towards his family, who never seemed to regard him on the same level as them. He wanted to curse James 'til kingdom come, he wanted Lily to feel the seperation that he felt all the time. Except he didn't, not really, they were the bitter thoughts of a stressed out teenager, and Al didn't think much of them.

The second accident hit closer to home, because he was actually present at the time. It was during a Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson, and the lesson had been progressing normally until suddenly his vision was obscured by flashes of light as spells tossed themselves across the room. Somehow, Rose was hit, and though he didn't actually see it, he was close enough to be aware of it, and immediately he felt ill. Rose was perhaps the relative he was closest to, outside of his immediate family. In a daze he helped Teddy and his classmates deal with the aftermath, but there was a thought at the back of his mind, he had complained about Rose the other day.... However, something good did come from this, at least he knew he wasn't being posessed, as he'd been present while the atrocity occurred, and he definately remembered it all, and it didn't fit with his mother's description of her experience.

The dreams didn't stop, though. Neither did the accidents. Somehow, Albus managed to suppress his imagination working overdrive, and by focusing on other things he managed to avoid analysing the situation too much. After the third, Al remained surprisingly indifferent, though the fourth and fifth made it obvious in everyone's mind that there was something happening, that these weren't flukes.Al tried to convince He focused on his schoolwork to take his mind of things. As a result he is currently doing better in school than he has ever done, especially with the essays that he usually rushed. But still there is that little laugh, and that niggling doubt that won't quite go away.

Sample RP:
    ((Set two weeks into the school year))

    Albus paced back and forth in the common room. His shoes clacked against the stone floors, and he was having thoughts of a fire burning in the grate when suddenly he was distracted, but he wasn't sure what by. Frowning, Al stopped in the middle of a turn, and stood still in the middle of the floor. It was a free lesson, and the common room was strangely empty, presumably his peers were outside basking in the early September sun or studying it up in the library. Exactly what they were doing, Albus didn't care, because there was that tiny laugh. It wasn't coming from outside the room, it was as though he was hearing it inside his own head.

    Tapping his right foot quickly, Al's heart sank to his stomach, and ice ran through his veins to his fingertips in a sudden rush. His legs felt wobbly, and he sank down on the leather sofa places to his near left, facing the empty grate. He leaned forwards, resting his head in his hands, feeling hot and cold, shaky. It felt like his mind was no longer entirely his, like someone had opened it up, a book to peruse at their own leisure. What was the laugh for? Some funny story set at Christmas involving James and a trick wand? But it wasn't that kind of laugh, it was more sinister, the laugh of someone who had just found what they had been looking for. Victorious perhaps?

    As that thought came into his head, the little laugh stopped. Al flung himself back to lean against the back of the sofa, and let out a laugh of his own.

    "Jeez, Al," he said out loud to himself. "Hearing voices is never a good sign of your sanity." he paused. "Not that you were especially sane in the first place!" Albus burst into whoops of laughter at that, which suddenly stopped a few seconds after they began. Aware that he was starting to sound like a madman, even if there was no one there to watch, he jumped to his feet again, and resumed the pacing that had occupied his time moments before. "So much for being sane," he muttered.

    It was difficult to feel same when for the last two weeks he'd been hearing little whispers that nobody else seemed to hear. Whywas this happening now? He was just beginning to forge his own path in life, he was a NEWT student now, and he was going to decide what he did with his life. The little laugh in the back of his mind wasn't going to change that. Still he felt a bit queasy, a sensible student would go to the Hospital Wing, but Albus tended to shun the care of others. Plus his cousin worked there, and he didn't exactly want his, issue getting into the family. No, he would keep this to himself for the time being.

    Anyway, he was probably just being paranoid.
