Over the years other teams firms have laughingly mocked Preston Mobs: Many to their perilous downfall. Preston's lads have fronted the likes of; Chelsea's 'Headhunters', Birmingham City's 'Zulus' and Leeds United's 'Service Crew' to name but a few. Many a time they weren't able to raise big numbers, though they always had a go ,(quality not quantity!) They were often involved in England's travels abroad. All in the line of duty.

This book is a serious but humorous insight into their activities. First and foremost they are football fans, contrary to popular belief. Secondly, they formed a tight knit unit that can be , and has been, classified as a 'football firm.'

It details misdemeanours all over this Blessed Isle and, as previously mentioned, on foreign soil representing their country. Featured are the first reported incidents of 'trouble' at Preston games, the roots of how the different firm's nicknames came about, leading up to using the internet and modern technologies to organise a 'meet.'

Preston North End FC are one of the most famous football clubs in the world. In their first season in the newly formed football league they not only won it with out losing a game, they also won the FA Cup with out conceding a goal. And to this day hold the record of beating a team in the FA Cup competition 26-0 with Hyde United being on the receiving end. So it’s all down hill after that.

Being a Preston fan I have had some low’s, low’s and low’s. With only recently getting a few highs. What does Robbie Williams sing in one of his songs “You’ve got to get high before you taste the low’s” BULLSHIT. Take it from me no sooner had I brass in my pocket to follow my beloved PNE they started to free fall into a big black hole, just avoid dropping out of the old 4th division. They successfully applied for re-election and League status was guaranteed, at least for another season.

Founder members/first double winners, even granted our own colours by Royalty not having to change strips home or away. Right down to teatering on the brink of going bust, not even owning our own ground and struggling to pay wages. We couldn’t even afford to sign players having to drag one lad out of work to play for Preston one afternoon. On the same day shaking tins in peoples faces for the save the floodlight campaign. So anyone reading this who didn’t know what long suffering PNE fans went through you might start to get an idea.

Lots of Preston folk stopped going on, followed other teams or were insane enough to carry on watching? Good job guns aren’t readily available! I remember a bloke I was working with whilst serving my time saying “what do you get upto a weekends lad” “follow Preston” “fuck me son I’d draw the curtains if they were playing in the back garden” cheeky cunt, I’m thinking but what else is there to do on a Saturday afternoon than watch my home town team? Wipe away your tears and blow your nose, we pulled out of it. New floodlights, plastic pitch (been and gone), new stand, new ground (nearly), new board of directors and even money now to spend on players. Promotion slowly came division by division with us knocking on the Premiership door. Wembley and Cardiff twice, low’s again. But all in all it’s looking good for Preston North End the family football club.

Fans are returning to Deepdale even the part timers lent to Rovers 'WE ONLY GO OVER TO BLACKBURN CAUSE IT'S PREMIERSHIP FOOTBALL'. Die hards bringing their sons up the right way to watch their hometown team. Young kids dragging there Mums and Dads on after many a lost generation. Shirts being seen worn out of Preston in surrounding areas.

The shame has gone, we're back on the footballing map competing with the big boys. Fans wanting to be in the Prem, have cup glory or even a European trip. But do we really want the plastic prawn sandwich brigade filling our seats. I don’t think so. I have had my little rant and rave now and I’ll get off my soap box.
