Name: Ichiwa Takamoto
Nickname: Ichi
Age: 17
Ancestry: Half-blood
Year: 7th
House: Ravenclaw
Wand: 11’, pine and unicorn hair

Physical Appearance: Ichiwa is fairly tall for a full Japanese, standing closer to an ordinary British height. He has pale skin, delicately Asian features, and a slender build. His unusually blue eyes are framed by long, dark lashes, and sometimes a corner of eyeliner. His hair falls just past his earlobes, and is cut in a rakish, unkempt style so that it often is in his eyes. It’s a very dark brown, nearly black, though he sometimes bleaches the tips to an orangey blonde. He has glasses, but avoids wearing them whenever possible.

When not in his school uniform, his fashion statement is simple. He wears loose trousers, sometimes slightly flared as is the style, and plaid or solid sweater-vests over a wide-sleeved white shirt. He loves his tweed greatcoat, and has a certain thing for scarves, particularly the striped ones that come with his Hogwart’s uniform. He hates wearing shoes unless he has to go outside, and prefers to use traditional Japanese house-shoes when indoors. Sometimes, just to throw people off, he’ll wear his favourite black crane yukata when lounging about the common room, and has been known to wear black hakama under his school robe as a joke.

Personality: Ichiwa, or Ichi as he prefers to be called, is a fairly laid-back kind of person. He likes to take life easy, and ends up procrastinating a lot because of it. He hates mathematics, although he seems to excel in his arithmancy class. As far as academics go, he has a very sharp mind, and reads at an amazing rate. He loves history, but hates the History of Magic class at Hogwarts, complaining about the lack of interesting information, rather than the fact that the teacher bores him to tears.

He’s a bit on the vain side, always careful to make sure he looks his best, though he doesn’t flaunt his good looks. He hates the fact that he is slightly nearsighted, and would almost rather run into things than wear his glasses. As it stands, he wears them only for Quidditch games, so that he can see the action far above him. He likes changing his appearance randomly, and does things like charming his eye colour, or dying/bleaching his hair. He also likes to wear jewellery with his school uniform, and has one pierced ear.

Ichi is fairly stoic when it comes to girls (and guys, for that matter) preferring to say that he is asexual, and pretending that he isn’t interested. Rumour has it that he has a girlfriend back in Japan, but no one knows for sure. He hates violence, unless it’s fictional and in a novel, and is a true seventies peace activist (without the tie-dye and peace signs). He tries to draw, but can only manage little chibi-style doodles on the edges of his parchment, spattered with ink. He envies his older brother, who is an aspiring manga-ka currently studying early European literature at Cambridge.

He likes reading classic Japanese novels and comic books, commonly known as “manga”, as well as traditional European authors. He is fluent in English and Japanese, and knows a little German and French as well, though not nearly enough to carry on a decent conversation.

On his bad side, he likes to put things off, and lounge around the common room reading instead of doing his homework. Luckily, he is a very bright student, and his bad grades from missed or late assignments are usually made up by his extraordinary exam scores. He is also a hypochondriac, and will disappear for ages on end, having accidentally made himself sick with his overactive imagination. He also has a strange love for horror manga, and then subsequently scares himself silly and won’t sleep.

He hates to lose, which contradicts his “passion” for procrastination, and causes him to emerge from his room with purple circles under his eyes the night before an exam. He wishes very much that he could be a musician, but can’t seem to ever get the motivation to learn a musical instrument. He took two years of judo, and three years of kendo, but largely ignores martial arts now, due to his extreme laziness.

General History: Ichi was born into the Takamoto family in Osaka on June 23, 1960, to Doctor Takamoto and his wife. Their four member family moved to Morioka when Ichiwa was four years old. Takamoto Sen divorced his wife Ashiya in 1966, after deciding he couldn’t handle being married to a witch anymore. Takamoto Ashiya then moved to Britain with her two sons, to live with her mother in Cambridge. Ichiwa attended British primary school, becoming fluent in the English language and learned to love their culture, though still following the many traditions and customs of his Japanese culture. When he was eight years old, he began spending each summer with his father back in Japan, living in the best of both worlds.

In 1970, he received his letter to Hogwarts, and happily accepted. He had always known that his mother was a witch, but his older brother was a Squib, so he didn’t bother with magic much. He just knew that it healed his cuts and bruises, and made cooking dinner easier.

When he arrived at Hogwarts and began to discover that there was so much more to having magic than just housekeeping, he dove into this new course of study with will, determined to be the best student in his year. He also wished (and still wishes) to someday surpass his older brother in knowledge and art, even though he knows it’s nearly impossible.

He still spends his summer holidays with his father in Morioka, and comes back to school laden with Japanese snacks and sweets. He sometimes even convinces the house elves to let him into the kitchen so that he can cook his favourite foods, which the school, sadly, does not provide.

Other Information: Owns a long-haired black cat named Hime (princess), affectionately nicknamed Baka-neko (stupid cat).

Roleplay Sample: The sun was shining, and little birds were singing. A slight breeze waved the trees in the park, sending early spring blossoms from the cherry and apple trees into the air. Gossiping women enjoyed an afternoon jaunt around the edge of the park, and children played on the swings.

Ichiwa, however, felt as though a small raincloud was following him, right above his head. This was, in fact, the sad truth. A small cloud, puffy and grey, hung just above his head. It appeared to look smug.

He looked up, and sighed at it. “It’s only a matter of time until it starts actually raining on me,” he muttered. “If I catch the kids who bewitched this blasted thing to follow me around, I’m going to throttle them.” Of course, he didn’t really mean it. He almost enjoyed the little thing’s company. It was as if he had a new friend, albeit an unwanted one.

It was the summer holidays, a brilliant Wednesday afternoon, and he had vowed to spend it “getting things done”. Only, “getting things done” didn’t involve the list on the refrigerator that only had one thing crossed off. “Getting things done” in his mind was finding a quiet corner of the park, settling down under a tree, and reading.

Finally finding what he was seeking, he curled up at the base of an oak tree, shaded from the sun by the branches (and the cloud). Pulling a book from his pocket, he opened it up and began to read.

It was at that moment, the little cloud decided to release a torrent of miniature raindrops onto his head.

Ichiwa cursed.
