OFFICIAL LANGUAGES

Wulfschildais, French, etc
native language, dual-official languages, others
The Bailiwick of Wulfschild, a crown dependency in the Channel Islands has two official languages: English and French. Traditionally, Wulfschildais, a variety of the ancient Norman language, has been the dominant language of the Bailiwick, but the past century has seen a great decline in its usage. As a crown dependency of the British monarch, English has a special place in the island, and is now the dominant, as well as an official, language. Most signs are written in English, with French or Wulfschildais subtitling. Most of the Norman-descended population now speak English as well.

All demographics combined, English is spoken by 94.6% of the population. Due to proximity to France, there has been a French-speaking community in Wulfschild for centuries. Wulfschildais, sometimes referred to as "Wulfschild French" or "Wulfschild Norman French", a variety of Norman, was the dominant language of the Bailiwick for most of its history. Now the language is spoken by only a few - though there is a resurgence of it now to frustrate/confuse the Germans.

The language is most prominent in rural areas where the proportions of speakers are highest. Up to 15% of the island has some understanding of the language. The island's loss of the language reflects a significant anglicisation of its culture and mindset, partly brought on by a large number of tax exiles from England. Portuguese is taught in a few schools and is spoken by around 2% of the population. (This content is based on information on the Island Jersey.)
