For the first time in months, the weather was actually nice. the sun was out beaming its rays down and warming the air. the only thing on mae's mind was spending a day on the beach. she even went out and brought a new swimsuit just for the occasion. even though, she had no intention of stepping a foot in the water. no, she was going to lay on the sand and let her skin soak in the rays. unlike most girls, mae preferred her tans the natural way. she didn't enjoy the feeling that came with being enclosed in a tanning bed, and she didn't like the orange coloring that come from self spray tans. no, she preferred sun bathing because it looked better.

The beach wasn't really crowded, especially for a saturday. mae had expected the entire school to come out and enjoy the nice weather that had been thrown at them. but, there were only a few people scattered along the beach. this didn't really bother mae because it meant that there wasn't going to be much noise to disturb her. scanning the area, she spotted a perfect area to settle down. it was close enough to the water to enjoy the view, but far enough away not to get splashed by the water. tossing her bag onto the sand, mae squatted down and started to rummage through her bag pulling out her beach towel and a bottle of sunscreen.

spreading her towel out on the sand, she sat on top of it and began to rub sunscreen on her exposed skin. after, every piece of her body was covered with lotion, she placed it back in her bag before lying flat on her back. immediately her attention was drawn to the sky. her eyes danced from one cloud to another, but eventually the sun became to much for her eyes. closing her eyes, she allowed herself to relax. it had been a while since she allowed herself the time to relax like this. usually, she was busy with dance practice or trying to finished up a project that was due for school. but school was over for the summer, and she didn't have dance practice until monday which left her weekend completely free. just when she was getting use to being relaxed she felt a sharp pain . "what the" she yelled as she opened her eyes. something heavy was lying on the top of her, and it was a person. quickly, she noticed that the sharp pain came from an elbow pressing in her side "can you get off me please?" Her voice was through gritted teeth, her sentence cut short as she grimaced at the pain.
