It's been confirmed. I'd of preferred Mosely-Quintana. |

Between this and his October payday with Oscar, Floyd will have little financial incentive to step into the ring again beyond 2008. Outside of the Golden Boy, there's nothing in boxing that can offer Floyd this kind of coin. It's pretty frustrating. Here's a fighter who is arguably one fight away from boxing immortality, with the clock quickly ticking down on the prime of his career, and instead of taking that step and capitalizing, he decides to play make-believe with Vince McMahon. |

The Canadian Press 2/29/2008 11:56:29 PM MONTREAL - Lucian Bute of Montreal battered veteran William Joppy round after round and finally stopped him at 1:08 of the 10th on Friday night to retain his IBF super-middleweight title before 13,858 roaring spectators at the Bell Centre. Bute (22-0) knocked down Joppy (39-5-1) with a right in the ninth and forced the American to take a knee again in 10th. He finishing the scheduled 12-round bout with a flurry of shots in a neutral corner as the crowd chanted the Romanian-born champion's name. |

I searched for this fight on the guide and found it on French station TVA. It was sad. They should have brought in the doctor in between round to check Joppy's pulse because I'm still not 100% sure William was alive in there. I think Interbox was pulling some kind of Weekend at Bernie's deal It took about five rounds for either man to throw a combination. Everything was one shot at a time, which coming from Bute, a supposed P4P threat, against a shot fighter like Joppy, is not what you want to see. Bute landed consistently with the straight left down the middle. It was only in the later rounds that he started to mix it up a bit; once he did, it was good night, William. I got a laugh out of the confetti show at the end, as if beating William Joppy is some reason for celebration. Gotta love the hometown production. There have been rumblings of a possible Taylor-Bute fight, now that Taylor has moved to Super Middleweight. Based on what I saw tonight, though, Bute isn’t ready. He’s not busy enough, which is what you have to be to beat Taylor (see Pavlik). He also keeps his right arm dangerously low, which against the likes of Joppy is fine, but against anyone with power in both hands is a death wish. The Molson Centre looked packed. Montreal is quickly establishing itself as the hotbed of North American boxing. |

Bell's PPV. Due to the conflict with UFC, VCC and other carriers in Canada didn't offer it. It warrants a 4th bout, what with the bit of controversy. It was close with Izzy edging on points, but Marquez looked hungry for another go. More than likely, it will happen. |

I just saw it (God bless YouTube). A brilliant end to a brilliant trilogy. And I mean it when I say end. These two men have given us enough. They're long-term health is already in question because of the wars they've waged in the past year. Why put them through any more? For the record, I had Vazquez winning by two points -- the final round was a three pointer. Great fight. But this one still ranks as the definitive modern classic in my eyes: http://youtube.com/watch?v=imZaiGJgbsw "You gotta fuckin' get inside of him now." Nate Campbell dethrones the Baby Bull Juan Diaz, ending the young prodigy's undefeated streak in the process.
This was an impressive show of endurance and will from Nate. He outlasted and outwilled a fighter who has made a career out of doing the same to his opponents. Nate's a cool guy who has gone through a lot to get to this point. It's a good story and I'm really happy for him. Hopefully he gets a big payday or two out of this. |

Here's something interesting. It's a Cotto banner on display at a Riverplate game.
(Posted Image) Cotto was introduced to River through his trainer, who is a long-time fan. Apparently Miguel went to a game and was hooked. As a result, he's begun wearing their jersey to the ring before fights. I guess the River fans decided to thank him :) |
