QUOTE
After Saturday’s loss, which gave Toronto FC the worst start to a season in Major League Soccer history, there was anger, despair and finger-pointing.

But after a “free-for-all meeting” when they returned to work for the first time on Monday, the Reds believe they are poised to turn things around.

Their first chance comes Wednesday at BMO Field when TFC hosts the Montreal Impact in the second leg of the Canadian championship semifinal.

“It’s a serious matter, obviously, 0-8. No one wants to be that,” midfielder Eric Avila said Tuesday of TFC’s record after a 2-0 loss to D.C. United.

Avila said while there have been players-only and full group discussions before, this one was “a really serious, sit-down, full-on group meeting” between the players and coaches focused on “airing things out.”

“I think everyone came on the same page,” Avila said after TFC trained. “Everyone’s happy. Everyone’s smiling and that’s what we need right now.”

Toronto doesn’t return to MLS action until May 19 with a visit to D.C., the Reds’ first chance to end their record league losing streak.

Wednesday is the more immediate focus. A loss would not only end the club’s run of three straight Canadian championship titles but almost certainly hasten calls for the firing of head coach Aron Winter.

The teams tied 0-0 in Montreal in the opening leg last week.

Winter again reiterated that he believes his job is safe, no matter what the result against the expansion Impact. But he did admit to talking to forward Ryan Johnson about his pointed post-game criticism that the Reds were “too defensive, too negative” both at Montreal and at home versus D.C.

“Of course, when you’ve got eight games played and you’ve got zero points, then you’re emotional and sometimes you’re saying things that you don’t mean or things that the explanation is completely wrong to you all,” Winter told reporters. “But about the tactics and those things, he’s not right.”

Winter said while last week’s scoreless draw in Montreal was not pretty, it was a positive result for TFC and sets them up for the second leg. He added that the club has recently looked to start matches by keeping a clean sheet and then pushing forward to take advantage of scoring chances.

Johnson and midfielder Julian de Guzman, who after Saturday’s loss refused to publicly endorse Winter staying on, chose not to meet reporters Tuesday.

Already reeling from an 11-game winless run (0-9-2) in all competitions, the Reds appear set to have to play without captain Torsten Frings. He did not train Tuesday and the shoulder he injured Saturday was to be evaluated later in the day, with Winter saying the results will determine if he plays.

Defender Ashtone Morgan said “the atmosphere in the dressing room is good right now” despite the long slump.

“We’re behind Aron and Bob (de Klerk, the assistant coach) 100 per cent,” Morgan said. “Whatever they want to do, we’re going to do it with them.

“As a team, we’re going to get through it. We’re all together in this.”

It will have to be Natalie. In fact, she'll have to revive all of us.

Right now, this is all we've got. It's a sad state of affairs but we support our players and our shirts. What goes on behind the scenes is another matter but during a match, we support!

It's been tough watching these games, but I watch, it's been tough not being there at the games with you guys, but im there in spirit, it's been tough going through all of this, but hey, we made it this far. It's hard to forget the season and all of nothing thats been happening! Tomorrow, fuck it, bring your jersey, bring your flag and bring your voice, it's Montreal, we gotta remember were the best support North America has, TFC wouldn't be what TFC is, if it wasn't for what happens in those stands, we make shit happen and im sure the team knows this, so let's sing the loudest we can, because its in times like these, that we show our faces and we win the game for them.
Don't let the franhc bitches think they can do anything, we really gotta start chanting some mean shit to these french faggots, im so angry I cant be there tomorrow!

Do away goals count in this? Do they only count in regulation time (ala Concacaf)?
