"Clearly my appointment as head coach of Toronto FC was a mistake. I overestimated my level of preparedness for the job of coaching a group of senior professionals in a competitive environment. Toronto FC doesn't have time to wait for me to become the coach that I believe I can become. As such I will be stepping back from the on field leadership of your team.

That said, I still truly believe that I have many great assets to offer this organization as they achieve their desire to become a leading football club on this continent. For that reason, Monday morning, I will be sitting down with senior management at the club to determine if their is still a role for me as they move forward with the project.

I would like to thank the fans for their support up to this time and the players for their efforts. Toronto is a great emerging soccer city and one day soon will have a club that represents that.

Thank you."

Not saying it WILL happen. Not even saying it should happen (yet). By my own criteria in the next five games thread we shouldn't even judge his performance this year yet.

But if this is the press conference later tonight or tomorrow my respect for him would increase greatly. Great players don't necessarily make good managers and he hasn't earned the right to excuse a start like this.

And, for the record, I'm not even pissed off at this point. I actually had a lot of fun at the game until the ugliness in upper 115 at the end. This is just a cold rational calculation.

Mostly shoving and a lot of ugly words but not stuff we like to see between supporters.
