Result of the Friday July 29, 2011 CSL game between Serbian White Eagles and North York Astros played at Centennial Stadium in 8:00pm.
79 min...White Eagles Sasa Viciknez GOAL...Viciknez bends in 20 yard freekick from right over wall and into center of net over flying goalie Enea Perego.
89 min...Astros RED card...Diego Benzi earned his second Yellow card of the evening from referee Gianni Facchini for a deliberate hand ball when jumping with Sasa Viciknez for a high ball near the right sideline at 34 yards. (His first Yellow was for a trip on Viciknez that set up the goal at 78 minutes).
Final Score:......Serbian White Eagles........1............North York Astros...........0......
Attendance was about 180 on this hot evening with the temperature comfortable by the time the game ended in the dark. No Ultras were there tonight—in fact the crowd was more parents with kids than I'd seen for any of their games this season. The scoreboard wasn't working so a PA announcer made periodic announcements of the time and score for late arrivals.
Sasa Viciknez was brought into the game at the start of the second half. His goal was the only freekick he took during the game. The first half had the White Eagles with the run of play but their timing was off. Kirie Dimitrov, Milos Scepanovic, and Alex Braletic would have good runs down the wing but then cross over the box or behind the net to end a promising play. Astros goalie Enea Perego had a few punches of cornerkicks and crosses to clear the box. Astros offence was limited to kicks upfield for forward Nordo Gooden and the defensive line could usually stop him setting something up.
Milos Djurkovic earned the shutout for the White Eagles. In the second half he was tested more often.
The best was at 55 minutes when Marcos Rodriguez beat an offside trap at 35 yards on the right and holds up at 12 yards as a defender overruns him and he shoots a 10 yarder that Djurkovic caught under the bar.
White Eagles recover from two losses last weekend on a road trip to Montreal and Ottawa. They move up to 5th place with a 6-3-4 record although they've only scored 18 goals in 13 games. White Eagles have a game in Brampton on Sunday to complete another busy weekend but unlike last week at least have one day's rest in between.
Astros have 0 wins and 5 ties in 13 games. They had tied their last two games before tonight and have only allowed two goals in their last three games although they've only scored once.

Result of the Sunday July 31st, 2011 CSL game between Brampton City United and Serbian White Eagles played at Victoria Park in Brampton at 3:00pm.
5 min...BCU Richard West GOAL...BCU Andy Garcia took 30 yard freekick from right that had leaping West on left head an 8 yarder into right side of net.
14 min...SWE RED card...Ricardo Manguia Perez was shown a straight red for elbowing BCU Kevin Omokhua in the head when Omokhua was taunting the SWE goalie who had control of the ball. Referee Hassane Riffai also awarded a Penalty kick.
17 min...BCU Richard West GOAL...West blasted Penalty kick to right side of net as goalie Milos Djurkovic flies to the left.
20 min...SWE Alex Braletic GOAL...Braletic turns around defender and low 10 yard shot on left is under goalie Kodzo Awitor into right side of net.
37 min...BCU Richard West GOAL...BCU David Velastagui rushes on left wing and sends in low cross from 20 yards past goalie on left post and sliding West kicks in from 5 yards into open net.
75 min...SWE Alex Braletic GOAL...SWE Milos Scepanovic chips ball from 45 yards over defenders and charging SWE Braletic at 22 yards chips goalie who is at 15 yards and ball flies into center of net.
86 min...SWE Mirko Medic is tripped just inside the BCU box on the right by a defender as he pushed ball to the right.
87 min...SWE Sasa Viciknez GOAL...Viciknez blasts Penalty kick to right side of net beyond goalie staying in middle of net.
Final Score:.....Brampton City United.........3.............Serbian White Eagles........3..........
Attendance was about 200 on this sunny, hot and humid afternoon. This game was broadcast by Rogers Community Channel for Brampton residents.
Best non-scoring include at 7 minutes when SWE Filip Velasevic took a low 30 yard blast up the middle through a crowd of players that had the diving goalie on the right post make the save and then SWE Alex Braletic take a 10 yard rebound from the right that the sitting goalie was able to save. At 28 minutes BCU Andy Garcia intercepted a bad pass and took a quick 22 yard shot chipped over the goalie and hit the bar. At 38 minutes BCU Kevin Omokhua beat the goalie who fumbled the ball on the edge of the box on the left and his 20 yard kick hit the bar and went over. At 64 minutes BCU Kevin McIntosh took a quick freekick from 30 yards on left that hit the bar and bounced away. 94 minutes had the last chance as Omokhua beat an offside trap and his low 18 yard shot from the left was saved by the sprawling goalie.
This was a rough game with lots of tripping, clutching and grabbing. Neither teams nor fans were pleased with the officiating nor the offside calls. I counted nine cards given out—four yellows each plus the SWE Red card. SWE had to play a man down for 75 minutes on this hot day. Both teams took water breaks whenever a trainer had to be called to look at an injured player.
SWE Sasa Viciknez was subbed in at 56 minutes and took a close-in freekick almost immediately that was caught by the goalie. He scored on the Penalty kick chance. He was the hero in Friday night's game too as a second half sub when he scored a freekick goal in the only score in the game against North York Astros.
The tie keeps BCU one point ahead of SWE for fifth place although SWE has a game in hand.
There was no TFC Academy game at Centennial Stadium at 8:00pm against London City. A few weeks ago that was rescheduled for a later date and will actually turn into a home game for London.
