Was in the Man U thread and got talking to GJ about how well his Hearts were doing this year......couldn't, really, carry on the thread without hijacking the Man U stuff so thought it might be a place to share any thoughts on the Scottish game..............

....like, for example, how the result in the two big derby matches might be the best thing for the SPL.....With Celtic now on top by 4 points but Rangers holding to matches in hand but with Hearts lingering very close behind...there might be a real race in the SPL this year.

A new SPL thread is a good idea.

I don't know enough about it, so I look forward to seeing Jambo's response to today's result. Does Celtic's win keep Hearts in the race or does the victory make it that much tougher for Hearts to finish top 3?

As an outsider I am not sure Hearts are ready quite yet, so while choosing between the traditional top 2, I was happy to see Celtic get the points today. However, others will know far better than me.

This season, it would be very difficult for Hearts to finish outside of the top 3.......it would be great for the "game" if they could fashsion a way to get one of the top 2 spots.

If Rangers had won today they would have been on top of the league with games in hand so a Celtic win keeps things tighter....so is good for the race.

The Edinburgh derby debuts on Setanta on Tuesday (noon) with the Old Firm match airing Wednesday (12:15 pm)

I was looking for a nil-nil draw with lots of injuries and sendings-off, and not just for aesthetic reasons: for Hearts to finish in the top 2, the business partners are going to need to drop points, and the best chance is against each other since most of the rest wil struggle to compete.

I still rate der Hun for the title since Wattie has forgotten things about managing that Lennon will never know. That means it is Celtic that Hearts are realistically trying to overhaul. The stats show that Hearts can only lose 2 games in the second half to accumulate the points necessary to win the title.

Of course, because of the co-efficient, in typical Hearts fashion, second this year is a Europa league spot, not Champs League. Still I'd like for us to keep this run going and do some damage in the cup.

If you get to watch the Edinburgh derby, spot the sending-off, the two penalty shouts, and the tactics from the Hibs manager to stop Hearts' wide men running rampant. It nearly worked but justice was done in the end (barely).

 I meant to say top 2. Of course today won't hurt their chances for a top 3 spot...

Was that Samaras out there today :)
Good stuff from Celtic, delighted they beat them scumbags!
Despise Rangers not just their fans their horrible manager and their anti-football style of play! Hope Celtic can kick on now and win the league

Would love to see Hearts finish up there. And lets not forget the great showing by Inverness CT having a good season as well.

I'd like to see the Caley Jags do well. Unfortunately, they lost their long unbeaten away record today against St. Johnstone, and it was our old friend Collin Samuel who did the damage :(

Not sure how someone who could hate the man.......I may be Celtic supporter but I can't help but admire any man who loves his club enough to come back to them knowing there was no money to spend and, in fact, the money was so tight that selling players would be the norm and there would be no guaranteed contract for himself.......to do that and not moan about it is quite something.....to do that and win trophies is, possibly, genius.

I talk to relatives on both sides of the whole Old Firm divide all the time.....I have concluded that nowhere else does the word "hate" get thrown around so easily and (IMO) wrongly......but even if I accepted I was supposed to hate some Ranger's players/fans/management.....W Smith would be very near the bottom of my list of people to hate.

I knew it was mate, I was just making my position clear :). Over here, I think it would be more likely to be someone trying to stir up trouble between the two groups, than any genuine bother.

Re: what TOaF said, I'm no fan of either side, but I don't have anything in particular against Smith. He's a smug, old firm promoting get, but that is his job.
