That's an interesting perspective, Tim, and one I don't necessarily disagree with. Here's a point for you and anyone advocating video review (like me): what makes us think that the video review judge/staff would be any more competent and/or honest than the officials on the pitch. Sure, they get a second look at it, but depending on the instructions they are under, they could quite happily endorse a referee's "soft" red card, if it suits their agenda, ie. continuing to turn the game into ballerina basketball or they could be equally complicit in setting the outcome of a given game. |

Minus SA missing out on the next round and potentially killling what was sure to be a shit show of epic parties in SA I loved how this group finished.
Was hoping to see uruguay vs Mexico but am more thrilled at the prospects of seeing another spectacular match between Mexico and Argentina. They played hands down the best match at the last World Cup and I'll be praying to a God I do not believe in for Maxi Rodriguez to launch another blistering, eyes-wideopen, blow the shit right out of your ass goal like last time. The French FA should have known damn well to fire the fool after Euro 2008. There is no hindsight after the meltdown as this was the common sense after finishing dead last in a group that featured Romania. An abundance of superb talent is left stale on a shelf because of incompetence from the association and management. Hopefully a lesson learned for the future. |

Yeah, that game was a cracker! I'd still rate the Germany - Italy semi ahead of it but I'm definately down for a rematch. Mexico have been impressive in this tournament. There results don't necessarily reflect it but they've played some good football and had some of the best fan support. And far be it from me to compliment Mexico's sportsmanship(!) but you've got to give them credit for going for it against Uruguay. That had the makings of a stale 0 - 0 all over it but from everything I saw was a pretty open game and Mexico were willing to risk losing to take the chance of winning the group. |

I think Uruguay deserves some credit for going for it as well. A tie would have won them the group, but they really went for it anyway in the first half.
In the second half with the lead we closed down, and Mexico deserved to equalize, but still a entertainting game. I expected Uruguay to defend from the beggining so I was glad to see them go for it. |
