when I was down there they started late July. Playoffs or La Liguilla, last about 3 weeks? Every round is over 2 legs, with the higher position being the tiebreaker (I can't remember if there are away goals or not). Except in the final where it would go to penalties (and I can't remember if there's extra time, though I think I remember Toluca winning a title on penalties). So as roue mentioned, 2 half seasons, 2 champions a year. Generally there's a bit of a break for Christmas and early January, though they weather is pretty much perfect to play at that time. Relegation however is based on a 3-year points average. If you haven't been in the Primera for 3 years, only your current run since promotion is counted. While promotion from Liga de Ascenso is based on the 2 half-season champions facing off in a promotion 2-leg playoff at the end of the season (May). Though if it's the same champion, they get promoted automatically. -- Edit: The Groups that roue mentions are sort of like divisions, in that as he mentioned the top 2 within it are into the playoffs and then the next best 2 teams are essentially "wildcards". THough the playoff ranking gets reshuffled based on overall points. How those groups are determined isn't geographical, but rather just random as far as I can tell, maybe there's a couple of seeding methods or something. The Apertura schedule is half the calendar, while the clausura schedule is the mirror of those apertura fixtures, not even sure they restructure the fixture list, so you could be ending against the same team for both tournaments on the last day. 2 good goals by Humberto "el Chupete" Suazo. to tie the aggregate at 2-2 and to seal the title at 3-0 on the night (4-2 agg.)
also, this was Benito Archundia's last match. He's retired! In the highlights I heard them refer to him as Armando Archundia, so I had to wikipedia doublecheck it... |

seems an early start, but I think you're a day early on that one. not any huge match-ups this first weekend though. America/Pachuca could be interesting on Sunday. |
