Ya I see your point. And if he's consistent off the bench too, it could be well worth it. |

If its a pay as you play kind of deal, I dont see how it can be negative at all. Its well worth the gamble.
The crazy thing to me is that in total Newcastle has paid £41m in transfer fees and wages for Owen! |

I don't get all the talk about money.. I agree with Sean the guy will only make a fraction of what we would have paid Tevez Benzema Ribery pretty much anyone else we've been linked to, Its NOT about the money he'll make, at least for me (and I think alot of united fans) its the space on the bench and the man in question a former injury prone scouse... we have the money and I don't care if we spend it flying him to see doctors all over the world all season long. I care that we're selling young talent like Campbell and Rossi (last season) and making what seems to me like a gamble by SAF but hey the man usually knows what he's doing.
He brought in Larson and questions were asked but not about his salary just about his age , Teddy Sherigham, Eric Cantona..... I guess they all did the job when it mattered. I just can't come to terms with Owen in the United jersey. (Posted Image) Oh well.... This post has been edited by J0N@N on Jul 3 2009, 10:02 AM |

He had the highest conversion rate of any forward in the EPL last season, so I don't see why anyone would question his ability. He's also only 29, FFS. That picture makes me sick, Jonan, and I think the uproar about this move has nothing to do with money, but more to do with Utd. "supporters" ( ;) ) concerned about one of ours coming in and the fact that he is the only high profile target you could land this summer. It's been one disappointment after another for that mob this summer as every player they desire says "uhh, fuck no. 50% in taxes and it's not even London?!" Edit: "And they aren't competitors anymore either!"
As for Vidic. I thought he was the hole in United's defense?!     Torres had a harder time getting around town than he did that mup. Do you guys remember how easily he tore his ass apart into little tiny Serbian strips of ashamed nothing? One of those embarassing encounters, like I need to remind you, ended in him trying to yank Stevie's shorts off for a peak at the world's greatest midfielder's ass and earned him a nice red card/suspension. The way Torres and the lads fucked with him that day cost him a few end of season honours I hear. They ended up going to the right man anyway... ;) The main thing wrong with that pic is that it appears to be a final shirt, and there are no finals on the horizon of that club of yours. Are United fans actually complaining about this??? Man, I would be in heaven if my clubs were in negotiations with players like Owen.

They need to do both, the Owen signing is just for depth. |

Don't be ridiculous, Mike. Vidic was the best defender in the EPL last year by a long stretch. Yes, Torres tore him up that one match, but the title went to Salford. It will be a very interesting close season, now that it has begun in earnest. |

On a cold day in hell, Gary. ;) I saw him pick up enough gongs this season to know he must've faired all right, but I only watch that bunch play twice a year, and on both occasions he was less than impressive. Thankfully. B-) |

Heh, fair enough :). I watched a fair amount of EPL this year, and I thought Vidic had the best overall year at centre-half. Jagielka and Lescott were really good, but I thought usual stalwarts like Terry, Carragher, Dunne, Ferdinand, Toure, Gallas were all off the boil a little by comparison. Agger and Johnny Evans look like they'll come good. |

For all that he played Martin Laursen was absolutely immense when he was on. Villa's fortunes seemed completely tied to his fitness. |

Laursen was a beast, and I would have listed him, but he didn't play after January, and now he's gone from the game. It's a shame. Laursen and Mellberg together were an excellent pairing. |
