3rd place is a trophy. I'm looking forward to the Champions league group stage draw to see where I'll be going for away matches.

Are LFC fans looking forward to starting the defence of their Carling Cup?

Im sure Spurs fans, and Redknapp sure is smarting after missing out on the thing they wanted so badly last season. More than an FA cup, more than a Carling Cup.

But this belongs in another thread...were talking about the FFP, which I think is a good thing should it be introduced and properly enforced.

It sure as hell should be introduced. Partly for selfish reasons of my own but as St Peter points out it will avoid inevitable financial disaster.

I can't tell you how happy I am that I riled you up with that. My point being this thread was only started because all you have to cling to is financial statements, and being in the black is just oh so glorious.

It's the Capital One Cup now, buttercup.

Introduce all the financial rules you'd like, our income potential is not tied to a stadium and with our worldwide draw we'll always have tons of money coming in. If clubs were rock stars, we'd be John Lennon compared to your Geezer Butler club. You guys can only make money selling players for so long before people stop paying the highest ticket prices in England to watch a team hoist up the third place spot on the final day of the season.

Silly Mike....don't you remember when Van Persie trotted around the pitch the day they clinched the 3rd place trophy last year?

There he is, holding the 3rd place trophy.

Since when has TFC been near 3rd place?

Gotta love when a 'club legend' won't re-sign with his club because they can't win trophies. LOL

I was referring specifically to the ticket sales part. Thought it was funny how a supporter of a team like TFC could take a shot ticket sales issues.

Glad to be of service haha.

But Arsenals revenue is not tied to the stadium (even if it was, the stadium does bring in incrdible revenue on its own...second only to old trafford). There is also Highbury square, Armoury Sqare, the academy, the other real estate developments, merchandising etc. Arsenal have higher revenues than all except United in the EPL, and are a more valuable club than all but United. I think you showed me the table yourself at one time a few months back. Arsenal are an internationally followed club, with huge followings in Africa and Asia in particular.

Only make money selling players? see previous paragraph. Like I said, 3rd place brings in revenue as well. And like most Arsenal fans, I would rather a champions league spot than a Carling cup.

Third place is a trophy. I was very happy Arsenal secured that spot, because I know how important it is. Of course I want to win the league, maybe to win an FA cup. But if you asked me would I rather win the FA cup and miss out on the CL, otr secure the CL. I honestly would probably say I woudl rather secure the CL spot.

Therefore, logically, if the third place is more sought after than some trophies, if its not a trophy, then its at least an achievement that is as valuable as a trophy.

As for Van Persie, he was very happy to secure the 3rd spot (ahead of Spurs), refer to the post match press conference. I honestly dont know whether Van persie is intending on leaving, or if this is just a posture to get a better contract a la Wayne Rooney. If he leaves, he wont be a legend...hes not a legend now by any measure. If he stays and plays well for 3 seasons, then he will be a legend IMO, trophy or not. If he wins a few trophies at another team and retires in a few years...he'll be a legend nowhere.

Also, tell me (honestly), are you happy that Henry states liverpools priority is not top 4?
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/...riority?cc=5901

If you are you're lying to yourself and i dont beleive it for a second. Liverpool fans want to get back into the Champions league, because thats where the big teams play. And if you do get 3rd or 4th, I'll be sure to ask you if it feels better than the Carling cup win, and ill be sure to see how LFC players react, compared to when they won the Carling cup...I think I know what I would see.

The fact you get your new from Soccernet tells me all I need to know about you personally. For a doctor and all the other things you are, your grasp of the language is atrocious. "States"? There's three quotes in there and none of them say what you say he stated.

I can not wait until you don't finish 4th this season, and the many in the coming future that you won't.

My dog's a trophy. Wait, no, he's real and I can see him.

Look above and in the Gooner thread. Everyone is laughing at you when you say that, Carrie. ;)

Liverpool football club exists to win trophies. - Shanks

Arsenal exists to earn money and finish third. - The Muppet Show

I admire how content you are with nothing. You might remember years from now how you were behind us in February but finished the season 3rd. Everyone else will only remember 8-2, the Wenger booing being the loudest thing at the Emirates all season, RVP's coat tails and nothing else about your club this season.
