Gian-luca,

Have you got the T&T game against Canada from the Caribbean Cup? Also do you have the Canada-Turkey game?

I've got lots of old tapes, but they are all on another continent, so I appreciate these uploads. Good to see the games again :)

What about the Canada-Macedonia game from 1998? I remember it was only on local tv, so perhaps you don't have it.

Where did all of those Canadians come from?

If I remember correctly, some of them were St Gallen supporters who decided to support Canada. I think a few Voyageurs were at the game as well.

I don't have the Canada vs. T&T game - in fact I never saw it back in the day, so I'd love to see those goals. I do recall watching the Canada vs. Turkey matches but I don't think I kept a recording. I was at the Canada vs. Macedonia match from 1998 but somehow acquired a copy of it many years later. I have made a digital copy of the Niall Thompson goal and it is in the "queue" to be loaded up on youtube the next time I get around to uploading.

Thanks so much Gian-Luca. There is no rush with the Canada vs Macedonia game. I've got the Canada-T&T game at home, as well as the Turkey game, but no access to them. Maybe next time I get home... ^_^

Some golden oldies found on youtube:

Classic footage of the Italy vs. Canada friendly at Varsity Stadium in May 1984:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLHZj9mt32A

Italy was defending World Cup Champions at the time but having crashed out of Euro 1984 Qualifying (the tourney had only 8 teams at that time) they went on a friendly tour since they wouldn't be in the tourney itself. Canada was preparing for the 1984 Summer Olympics (which remains the last time we qualified for that tourney), where we got all the way to the Q-F when losing in a shootout against Brazil, highlights of which can be found here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24avlaFnaxE

Unfortunately it does not include the incorrectly-disallowed offside goal by Gerry Gray that would have given Canada a 2-1 win, but still, this is the holy grail of lost Canadian soccer footage for me - other than the Mitchell goal, I hadn't seen this in over 27 years!

Magic stuff... Still take a 22k Varsity over hte new Ex...

Taking a guess the youtube poster is Italian... love the interpretation of May as Mary, however May is named after the greek goddess of fertility, Maia... extrapolate as you will ;)

I never did get to see on TV the Can-Hon WCQ game from 2004 that was played in Edmonton. The main reason for that is because i was at the game. And, I have never wanted to revisit that horror show of officiating starring Benito Archudia.

But, after six years, i think that I am ready now. would anybody happen to have that recorded? i would like to borrow it.

PM me. Or, those of you who may have my cell number, give me shout

If I don;t have it I'm sure Gian-luca does. I gotta get around to cataloguing what games I do have recorded.

Not exactly a classic Canada video but a classic video for Canadian soccer nonetheless. If you've got a couple of hours on your hands, you can now watch the entirely of the final NASL game on youtube, Game 2 of the 1984 final, featuring our own Toronto Blizzard against the Chicago Sting at dear old Varsity Stadium. Here's a link to the 2nd half:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U73iltcza7U

The stirring Blizzard comeback can be seen between minutes 30 and 33 on the video as the Toronto crowd (of which I was a member) can be seen & heard going nuts. Unfortunately we lost the final that night on the second deflected goal on the night that Chicago scored. All these years later I'm still wanting revenge.
