Although the Montreal Impact defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps in this past month's USL final, it appears as though neither team will be in the league next season according to one of the league's two owners, Alek Papadakis.

In an interview with Montreal radio station CKAC, Papadakis confirmed that neither of the Canadian based clubs would be part of the USL for the 2010 season after the two sides failed to reach an agreement for continuing play next season and that the T.O.A (Team Owner's Association) was ready to move in another direction.

Edit: Reality or negotiating ploy? And, if true, what does the Voyageurs Cup look like next year?

Automatic berth into the group stage for TFC!

Both sides need each other in this case, I think it's a negotiating ploy.

Vancouver and Montreal not having a league to play in next year would be a complete and utter disaster for them... would it not? this is insanity.

For Montreal yes.

For Vancouver, no? They will be in MLS in 2011 anyways.

They can form a two team league.

Oh the excitement.

You can have all kinds of cup spin offs.

The Two Team Championship Cup.
The Two Team League Cup.
The Two Team Supporters Cup.
The Fleur-De-Lis Pacific Dogwood Cup.

In addition to all the Voyageurs Cup games ...

Maybe it isn't so much, but here it is nonetheless.

John Molinaro just tweeted that both the Whitecaps and Impact won't play in the USL-1 season next year.

Wow. That final we saw between the two may have been the last we'll see of them unless both go to the MLS in 2011, which Vancouver will.

Seriously, what does this mean for the cup?

Surely we are either automatically in, or it's not between them, us, and all of the CSL teams that would technically be considered much more professional sides than 2 clubs currently not in competition. I mean, otherwise I want to resurrect my old Ontario Cup team and try for the Champs. League qualification spot.

It's just as viable in my opinion.

Also, how does MTL pay their bills now? The players start to deliver milk on the side or something? Mash curds?

How cheesy is that? :ph43r:

Comment from the TSN page(so take it with a grain of salt):

"Bob Lenarduzzi was on the TEAM1040 about an hour ago saying that 8 USL owners including the Whitecaps and Montreal have left the league and started their own league. Seems to be a dispute with the new owners of the USL. Did not hear what other teams were involved."

Interesting.

Interesting.

That makes sense. I was actually listening to the Team 1040 and that's where I heard it and they said they had an interview with Lenarduzzi coming up. So that part checks out and I can't imagine someone would make up what he said.

A league with 6 or 7 teams in 2 years? Excitement abound! I can't wait! It's definitely got the mark of a winner, doesn't it? Am I safe to assume Portland is one of those teams, so it could possibly be a 5 team league in a few years?

Seriously, no wonder our footy is considered a joke to the rest of the world. Sports absolutely must be about money and nothing more, eh?

Why can't our leagues be eligible to go over to Europe and play for a different country like all of our talent? So they too can fuck off and be dead to me.

I'm almost positive the U18 girls leagues in Peel are better run than this.

What a joke these clubs' fans must be to take this kind of thing and still show up year after year, even if it's only 50 of them. How do you get excited about competing for something that smacks of this much pathetic?

Makes the MLS and our situation look as organized and administratively sound as FIFA itself.

Captain Wassisname and band of dandies are going to typify and be right at home in this league, me thinks.

Yeah, thats the big question? Doesn't FIFA or Concacaf have to approve or sanction the clubs that play in CCL. And isn't that based on teh league or competition that they play in?

So if you ARE going to exclude CSL teams bases on set criteria, then how can you aprove clubs at the drop of a hat, that are now part of a new league.
