U-Sector Hoodies |
| Posted by Rudi - 12-4-09 19:47 - 44 comments |

Finally, a new run of hoodies is here.
This time around, we are offering two styles, a standard pull over and a zip-up. Each style will have a different logo on it, with the pull over featuring the familiar U-Sector wordmark (similar to the existing hoodies) and the zip up featuring the U-Sector (Bears on the) Shield logo.
Both styles feature fully embroidered logos.
I will be collecting cash only for these items over the next several weeks. I will post dates for payment as they come up, but they will generally coincide with USIL matchdays. The hoodie order will not be placed until early 2010 regardless of when you pay. I'm looking at Feb. 2010 for when hoodies will be received.
Further information about each style is posted below. Please note that I do not currently have a shot of the embroidering for the pull over, but I hope to have one soon.

Guevara/World Cup Players. |

Could be an interesting sub-plot to whether we keep Guevara...
yes he might be missing for up to 6 weeks, but at $1600 a day and payable starting 2 weeks prior to the competition, that's a minimum 5 weeks worth of money. That's $56k in what, allocation money? Who gets it - the league or the team? Okay, so it's not a huge amount, but in MLS terms it's actually fairly substantial.

“Every club who has a player at the World Cup will receive $1,600 per day, per player,” Jérôme Valcke, the Fifa general secretary, said. “The money will be paid 15 days before the start of the tournament and to one day after the player’s participation ends.” |

Need Input - TFC's Biggest Needs/Wants |
| Posted by James - 12-4-09 05:55 - 17 comments |

So, we're a little over a week from launching the third-annual GoTFC Twelve Days of Christmas feature over on gotorontofc.com, where we try to identify TFC's biggest needs and the supporters' biggest wants.
This year, instead of being insular and secretive about the gifts we're giving, we're opening the floor to TFC supporters.
What we're looking for is a wish list - the three things you'd like to see TFC do (on or off the field) in the coming year. Give us a quick bit of reasoning as well...if we use your "wish" we'll try to use your comments in the articles.
To give you an idea of what we're looking for, here's what was under the tree last year...
- Dwayne De Rosario playing for TFC (he was unveiled THE DAY BEFORE we ran the piece, forcing a re-write we were only too happy to do)
- Toronto FC games broadcast on the radio
- A ...read more

How to run an MLS franchise for tax losses |
| Posted by Oldtimer - 12-3-09 14:10 - 21 comments |
 |
Since the Forbes figures get bandied around so much, I did this simple accounting illustration how a franchise can "lose" money while actually piling in the profits.
===================================================
Say you have an MLS team with $8 million in net revenue before depreciation expenses (including sponsorships, etc.). You own a SSS costing $100 million, which will last for 25 years before requiring a major rebuild. Your profit is $8 million, less ($100 million divided by 25) $4 million in depreciation leaving a $4 million real profit.
Now in the US tax code, you can claim depreciation using any "reasonable" method (this differs from Canada where you claim capital cost allowance). So you claim that soccer is a "risky" business, and it is more reasonable to write off the stadium over 10 years, as you never know if the team/league will be around more than that long. Suddenly, you h ...read more |
