Sorry if this has been posted already, but I didn't see it anywhere else.

QUOTE
“(Union manager Peter Nowak) came and said they had offers from Toronto and Chivas. I didn't even know what to say. I couldn't say anything. I called Peter back later and said, 'Please, if you're going to make this trade, please don't send me to Toronto. If you have to make this trade, please don't let it be to Toronto.'

“When you're presented with a choice to go to Chivas or Toronto, which place are you going to choose? It got narrowed down Sunday, or Monday. Monday, maybe, I was told the deal was done. Then the deal wasn't done. Then Toronto came back in at the last second with something and I almost lost it. It just kept getting postponed, the date and time of the actual deal being finished. That was the hardest part, the uncertainty of the whole thing."

Fuck you too, Danny.

So a guy born in Cali preferred going to a club in Cali over one in another country?

:o

Fuck him anyway.

He didn't say not Canada, he said not Toronto.

From day one TFC has had trouble attracting & retaining decent American MLS players and a lot of that it about guys not wanting to play in Canada. Sometimes for some pretty legit, practical reasons. However at this point I think it's just as much if not more about players simply not wanting to come to this organization.

That and what Anfield said.

An aging player from California with an option to go home or to the last place team in it's 6th year of sucking with the highest turnover of players probably of any pro team ever... easy choice. None of us should even consider being offended by this.

All the same. He can go fuck himself.

I've actually thought before about whether or not Danny Califf would fit in on this team, especially once Adrian Cann was out with surgery.

He's a fierce, physical defender, and clothesline to JDG aside, I haven't seen anything to hate about this guy. Philly sure loves him. Still, he'll be retiring before too long, and it would be nice to find CBs with the ideal mix of pace and experience - I think his pace is less than 100%.

Can't really rip him for the choice of cities. He didn't want to leave Philadelphia, and if he's being forced to play his last couple years somewhere else, better for him if it's in his hometown (and home country).

Bottom line: we seemed stable at the back the last couple games, despite still having a lack of effective defensive depth. We're not desperate for him.

Yes. When they added two more clubs in Canada, i had figured that they would have the same problems that TFC had in the early years as far as getting Americans to agree to play here. When i was told that the issues were mostly off the pitch related (eg.: family adjustments etc), i bought it. But we are not hearing the same stories from the other two clubs.

Maybe it's too soon to know or maybe they learned from what happened to TFC and tried to do things differently. It's also a different league than it was in 2007 and with three teams in Canada it may not be the obstacle it was five years ago.

Unfortunately for us there are now other reasons why players might not want to come here even if some of the previous barriers have softened.

No idea if any of this came into play here but it does bring attention to this either way.

Califf is not an upgrade over Cann. Well, a little more vocal on defence but that's about it

This tells me that players talk, and that amongst the players they've bad-mouthed the Toronto experience. Which isn't hard to imagine considering we completely change our personnel every season. It will take some time to build back up the trust that comes with having one manager who is consistently in charge year after year. At the moment guys are wary of coming here because they know it's likely temporary. But like someone else said, Danny is from California anyways so that also played a large part, I imagine. It's too bad because I think he would have been a good player here, but if he doesn't want to come then that's the end of it. It's not like signing or not signing Danny Califf is going to make or break us. Moving on!

sure we are. Brian Ching - it wasn't just about Houston, it was about Montreal, and Canada (and Jesse Marsch - ). there just hasn't been as long for the stories to unfold yet. it's also hidden between the lines of the comments of guys who are playing in Montreal - they sound diplomatic now, but...
