Potters, go to a Lazio game. There's a reason their nickname is "Nazio" (Posted Image) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkiwVqqnJqs&feature=youtu.be |

Did you notice that when the reporter visited the supporter bar/clubhouse in Ukraine there was a Lazio flag hanging on the wall? |

... a bit late to the party here, but I can tell you that the Euro has done more to stamp out racism (along with most ultra culture) from the Polish Ekstraklasa than anything else over the last two decades. The last few years have seen a coordinated (some would say over the top) effort by the government to clean up the stadiums. Most in the stands now associate the Euro with this reaction and are boycotting the whole thing. (See the coordinated "FUCK EURO" campaign that ended the season). In their place you will see a lot of nice people in face paint and silly foam jester hats. (I don't get it either!)
There still remains an uncomfortable relationship between 'nationalists' and the terraces that would make most westerners uncomfortable, but the most excessive racism and violence has been pushed down to the lower leagues. (The worst Polish example they featured was from a III league derby.) |

Oh Cassano, still trying desperately to:
A) Convince people he's not into his team mates and their junk B) Remind people of that unique to football principle that racism is horrible but homophobia is completely acceptable. Grow up, idiot. |

Russian Polish fans fight today before the game
Video Article l (Posted Image) Police sprayed water cannon on Polish fans near the stadium before the kick-off while tear gas was used in another area near the venue which was encircled by a thick cordon of riot police with dogs and rubber-bullet guns. Riot police and vans created a buffer as Russian fans began marching to the National Stadium across a central Warsaw bridge chanting "Russia, Russia" and waving white, blue and red Russian flags. Some Polish fans yelled obscenities at the Russian marchers, who responded by hurling back bottles, but security forces managed to keep the situation in check on what is also Russia's national day. Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/pola...l#ixzz1xcfW6grI (Posted Image) Helicopters circled the city sky as vuvuzelas blared below and thousands of chanting Poland fans decked out in their national red-and-white also made their way in a loud but orderly fashion to the stadium. Some 6000 policemen are on duty in the capital for the duration of the tournament and Poland's Euro 2012 organisers have said that 9800 Russian and 29,300 Polish fans had tickets for Tuesday's encounter. Some 12,000 Russian fans were in the city for match day. (Posted Image) Interior Minister Jacek Cichocki had earlier said the security operation surrounding the match in the capital was the city's "greatest-ever challenge". "Drunk fans both in the city centre and on the outskirts of Warsaw after the game - especially around midnight - that's a real concern to us," added Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Tusk also hit back at claims of racism levelled at Poland, with a number of reported incidents, most notably taunts at members of the Dutch national team as they trained in Krakow (Posted Image) European football's governing body UEFA was also looking into allegations that Russian fans taunted Ethiopian-Czech player Theodor Gebre Selassie. "Let's be honest, racist and anti-Semitic attitudes among Polish hooligans are a fact. But I strongly protest against stigmatising Poland as a country in which this phenomenon is growing," he said. Some Russian fans insisted the security issue was overblown. (Posted Image) "We won't be provoking anything," said Svetoslaw Sorokine, 33, who travelled 48 hours by train from Yoshkar-Ola, a city 800 kilometres east of Moscow, for the match. "Our supporters come in a spirit of peace to support our team, not to play politics," he added. Polish media played up the tense history of the old foes, with the centre-left daily Gazeta Wyborcza resorting to military language. (Posted Image) "It won't be a simple march across Warsaw, alas, but massive air raids against the Polish net," the newspaper said. "Above all, we must survive this match." The match finished 1-1. The result left Russia at the top of group A with four points from two games, while the Czech Republic are now second with three points after defeating Greece 2-1 earlier in the day. Croatia will be fined for setting off smoke bombs after 2nd goal during Irish game, as well as the fan jumping onto field and kissing the coach

When did that stop being sexual assault? I saw some Austrian reporter kiss Will Smith recently and take a smack for it, but that was it. Some people were apparently mad at Will for hitting a gay reporter...gimme a break. Some idiot runs up and kisses Rihanna or Angelina and he's losing teeth under the keen of some security goon, then headed to jail.
Anyway... If you think the Euros are awesome, you should see the Europa League. Wait, huh? Fine imposed by UEFA for delaying a Euro match (Portugal): €5,000 Fine imposed by UEFA for delaying a Europa League match (City): €30,000 So which one is more important to UEFA then? Club before country. B-) |
