Final Score:.....Serbian White Eagles......6......
Attendance was about 125 on this hot night. By the time
the game got started it was almost dark. All the goals
were scored in the 'dark' end as a bank of lights
in the south east corner was not working.
Jeff Fearnall was the referee for this game and gave out
a few Yellow cards. The game was not in doubt after
the first half hour was played so it was not rough at all.
White Eagles didn't play keep away in the second half--
they were threatened for most of that time and couldn't
get out of their own end with many counterattacks of
An SWE club official was pleased that the team secured
the release from Brampton City United of Richard West
after along wait. He was tied for second leading scorer
of the CSL last year with 17 goals. This was also the
debut of Ivan Stankovic who's from Serbian and played
in that league and last year in Malta. Also strong
in defence was Serbian Vitomar Jelic.
Best non-scoring chances were at 18 minutes wend SWE
Kirie Dimitrov rushed down the right and sent in a 25
yard cross near the end line through the 6 yard box and
SWE Zoran Radovic flick kicked a 6 yarder over the net.
53 minutes had SWE Nikola Miodrag chip a pass from
30 yards on the left through defenders to find Radovic
in open and he chipped the goalie on pop up at 10 yards
but the ball came down for a defender to clear at 6 yards.
Three minutes later Radovic got a pass at 25 yards
on the left and passed into open on right for SWE Ivan
Stankovic to chip a 10 yarder over the net. 69 minutes
had NU Matthew Contino rush on the left and cross from
28 yards on an extreme angle and a leaping NU Matthew
Cain head the ball over the bar from 8 yards. 76 minutes
had Contino take a 25 yard freekick from the extreme
right that had NU Nicolas Goddard flick a 6 yard header
across the box and off a defender for the flying goalie
catch. 89 minutes had Contino shoot a 30 yard freekick
from the left that the flying goalie stopped on the left.
This was the first win for SWE in the last three weeks.
They lost all three games in their road swing including
the first win North York Astros picked up in two years.
Tonight's win moves SWE into a three way tie for 6th
in this lightly scheduled holiday weekend. Keeping pace
is Mississauga Eagles who beat Astros tonight in the
Rogers television game (taped for broadcast on Sunday
night). The other team tied with them is Windsor Stars
who were one of the teams to beat SWE in that streak.
Niagara is alone in 13th place.

Final Score:......Brampton City United.......7.......
Attendance was about 100 on this hot and humid afternoon.
It had rained earlier in the day and rain threatened again
until the second half when the sun came out.
I've read the linescores in the last few weeks and thought
something had gone wrong with the Galaxy because they'd
lost their last two games. After losing June 10th at home
to Brampton 8-2, the Galaxy then won five games in a row
to climb to 3rd place a few weeks ago. They beat SC
Waterloo away 7-1, London at home 4-0, North York away 5-2,
Niagara at home 3-0, and Windsor at home 1-0. Then
starting July 29th they've lost 5-0 at home to SC Waterloo,
and 4-2 away to London. The answer was delivered very quickly
when I saw the lineup with just eleven players and no bench
although a full list of subs was on the list. As the
game wore on I knew Galaxy would tire but the game was put
away in the first half because their team included many
players who were at best bench players or reserves. I'd
never find anything official from the league but did notice
earlier this week that the Reserves League game between
these two teams had been listed on their website
as 'Postponed--to be rescheduled'.
After the game I asked some of the Galaxy officials who'd
been carrying the supplies about the reason. Apparently
the coach has quit and eight players quit in support (that
number I'm quoting from a message board poster). The roster
list for today still has the coaching staff preprinted
Best non-scoring chances were at 8 minutes when BCU Milos
Scepanovic rolled a cross from 20 yards on left and BCU
Alex Braletic was behind the ball at 6 yards and he tapped
it back for BCU David Guzman who shot 12 yard roller up
the middle wide left. 35 minutes had Scepanovic take a
12 yard shot up the middle that had the flying goalie
push wide right of the post. 37 minutes had BCU Judah
Hernandez take a 25 yard freekick down the middle that
the goalie flew left to push the ball wide left. Guzman
had quite a few shots off target before he connected
for his third goal.
BCU's Ardit Xhameni proved very efficient as a substitute
as he scored within 20 seconds of coming into the game
on his first touch.
Mirko Medic a defender on BCU watched the game from the
stands today as he was serving a Red card suspension picked
up in last Sunday's game. This week he had the freedom
to heckle the game officials dressed in street clothes as
last week when he tried it while still in uniform he was
expelled from the stadium.
BCU head coach Armando Costa confirmed that defender Matthew
Smith was the same player I had watched this spring play
for Toronto Lynx of the PDL. Since most of those players
returned to their colleges when the season ended Costa
answered that Smith will be staying with BCU for the rest
of the season.
Note: Yikes David Guzman is narrating the broadcast of the
North York Astros vs Mississauga Eagles FC game
played on Friday night but shown for the first time
tonight at 8:00pm on Rogers Community channel as I'm typing
up this report.
thanks for these (as always!!!!), Robin!
any word on the reason behind the reason behind the craziness in Brantford?! (i'll ask my sister, too - she still lives in town) ... that's a shame!
[EDIT: maybe they'll call my nephew up from the u9s!]
