Title: Thanks Nick
Description: All the best

Sad to see Soolsma go. I think that is a big mistake.
Anyways, thanks Nick. You improved so much in your time here and won almost everyone over. Hope you find a new team that appreciates your skills.

...in another league! If we couldn't get anything for him inside the league via trade that'll tell a story: output/cost (and international slot) not deemed worth it.
If he has successfully resurrected his career it'll be one of the good stories of the Winter era. And we'll always have LA away to remember him for. I'll miss the Yorkies' cat jokes.
Good luck (outside MLS) Nicky.

Sad to see the end of Soolsmagic. Liked him from the first game in Vancouver last season, I am still amazed that a player who looks so slow can beat players with such relative ease. He was fun to watch, I really hope he goes on to better things.

And now that Mariner has dumped Soolsma, Plata, and from the buzz Aceval too then I expect someone coming in with the freed up cash and international roster spots. If we have no one in the wings ready to sign then these moves make no sense with our already thin squad.

the other side is saying jdg has been traded to fc dallas. that would be a free dp slot.
but shirt and site and whatnot

Thanks Nick.
We'll miss you, but will always be remembered on the back of George BBB.

Seems Julian de Guzman's time at Toronto FC is likely over. Hearing a deal is close to completion for a trade within #MLS. Nothing final yet |
We'd have to be still paying a chunk of his salary surely. Reminiscent of Angel to Chivas. This would clearly be a move to lock somebody up this summer. Ownership will always think of ticket sales but you can't say they won't spend money.

Might deserve it's own thread but since you mentioned it I'll drop this tweet from Luke Wileman here:

Edit: I guess you're right Mike, we are chasing each other around the internet.

Ha!
Ives quote now makes it seem more like a done deal.
I vote for own thread.

I'll miss his Soolsma's crossing and willingness to take on his defender 1v1. I thought he produced fairly well and I liked him, but he definitely fit a LOT better as a winger in a 4-3-3 and in the 4-4-2 doesn't fit as well in either the 2 forward positions or the wide mid. The summer timing is a good one for him to find another contract in europe and I think his resume here will leave him in a better place for finding work than it was before he came here.

I liked Soolsma a lot. I hope he lands with a good squad and sees regular playing time.
Good luck, son.

Glad to see my departure from Toronto is being greeted with sadness.

Good luck Nick, Soolsmagic will never be forgotten. Slowest dribbler I've ever seen makes it even more special.

I concur and let's also hope that the pesky legal trouble is not an impediment to his future prospects.
Good luck Nicky. We're going to miss you.
Veel geluk!!!

I'm very curious to see what Mariner does now. He's always said that he plays the system that best suits his players, but with Koevermans now out the system that would best suit us right now is probably a 4-3-3 with Johnson up front and centre. But somehow I think he'll stick to his preferred 4-4-2, but that will definitely require more personnel changes. I hate to say it, but I could see one of either Avila or Silva being shipped out. I know that both could play out of position and do a job for Toronto, but why not just trade them for what you actually need; a striker and a defender? We still have a surplus of midfielders even with the losses of Soolsma, Plata, and JDG, though I suppose he could also drop some defenders to make room. Perhaps Mariner can bring in a summer DP who would be less of a cap hit mid-season, plus another quality player whose salary we could maybe bring down with allocation money. I see no other way, unless Mariner does the unthinkable and plays 4-6-0! ;)

I think we will be OK, remember we just acquired “one of the best finishers I've seen in the modern era,” (said by Mariner)

Read today that he's getting a look at Excellsior Rotterdam.

I was just reading about them. They play in the Eridivisie but have only a 3900 seat stadium. They have been a satellite club for Feyenoord so lots of loaners. Not sure if they still have that arrangement.
Good luck Nick.

yeah, they've functioned as a feeder club for Feyenoord for a long time. Nice little club.
