Brantford Galaxy........5............
Attendance was about 80 on this hot humid evening even
with the sun low enough not to cast shadows on the field.
Best non-scoring chances were at 3 minutes when Astros
Jorge Perez took a 15 yard blast from the extreme left
that deflects off the goalie and through box that a
defender cleared on the right right post. 18 minutes had
Damion Scott take a cornerkick from the left that had
Dave Simpson head a 10 yarder off the bar that the goalie
pushes away. 22 minutes and a Galaxy player take
a 20 yard blast up the middle that was saved by the goalie
who then made two point blank saves on'Damion Scott
from 6 yards on the right. 54 minutes had Astros Jorge
Perez get open to take a pass on the right and he ran
to 22 yards and shot past the goalie but a retreating
defender made the save at 8 yards in the center.
A comic moment came about when Astros Michael Tischer
throught he'd scored at 26 minutes on an 8 yard shot
but the offside flag was up before he got the ball.
He didn't notice it and ran back upfield and over
to the stands to hug his relatives but slipped on
the track and crashed into the metal of the stands.
Opening goal scorer Dave Simpson was subbed off two
minutes after his goal with an ankle injury and
replaced with Jeremy Shepherd.
Alexis Vaughan was the referee tonight and she only gave
out one Yellow card that I noticed. The game wasn't
rough as both teams were more looking for counterattacks
when they could.
Galaxy's win tonight puts them into a tie for 2nd place
with a 6-3-0 record. Galaxy had started the season
slowly at 1-2-0. Assistant manager Jim Turnbull said
tonight that at the start of the season the team was
still bringing in players for their first game and
some had never practiced together. Astros stay in last
place with a 0-9-1 record. An insider said to watch
them tire out at 60 minutes. A key point in the game
was when the Galaxy responded so quickly to retake the
lead after the Astros second goal.
I dropped my binoculars through the stands between the
aluminum benches with about five minutes to go. I waited
until the game was over and crawled under an opening
in the front row at the end of the stands and found my
way through the corridor of beams in the dark to the spot
under where I sat and found them safe and sound. I
realized it's been nearly 25 years since I started coming
to this stadium to see at the time the North York
Rockets play in the CSL (different league). I was
thinner and more flexible back then.
This game was recorded by the Rogers Community channel
for broadcast on Sunday night in the City of Toronto.
Also Michael Juby was filming hilights for his
YouTube posts.

Result of the Sunday July 8, 2012 CSL game between
York Region Shooters and Brampton City United
played at St Joan of Arc C.H.S. in Vaughan at 6:30pm.
23 min...BCU Milos Scepanovic GOAL...BCU David Guzman
gives 45 yard pass from right over defender to Scepanovic
who rolls 12 yarder under goalie Camilo Benzi into center
of net.
33 min...BCU David Guzman rolls long pass down right from
55 yards to BCU Alex Braletic who cuts just inside of right
side of box and is upended by YRS Andre Manders. Referee
Justin Tasev awards Penalty kick which is delayed for
treatment of Braletic's injury.
36 min...BCU David Guzman GOAL...Guzman blasts Penalty
kick low to right corner of net out of reach of diving goalie.
37 min...YRS Jason De Thomasis GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey
cornerkick from left has charging De Thomasis leap to head
8 yarder down middle to low right side of net with goalie
Jason Lopes frozen in middle of goal.
45 min...YRS Aundre Rollins GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey rushes
down left after BCU Kevin McIntosh was stripped of the ball at
BCU 40 yards and he rolls pass to right for YRS Fitzroy Christie
who passes to right for Rollins who shoots from extreme right
low to left corner of net past sliding goalie.
46 min (1st Half)...YRS Andre Manders GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey
rolls pass across box from 25 yards on right to YRS Alex Trujillo
who slips up on ball at 15 yards in middle but charging Manders
blasts loose ball from 18 yards past sliding goalie at 3 yards
into middle of net.
65 min...YRS RED card...Andre Stewart earns a direct ejection
for his high kick check on a charging BCU player on the left
sideline. We couldn't see the infracion as it was in the
'hidden' corner of the field near the northwest cornerflag
because the stands are behind the school building and the
angle is too great. Referee Tasev went for his card without
delay so it must have been a serious foul.
85 min...BCU Milos Scepanovic GOAL...BCU David Velastegui passes
ball forward from 35 yards and Scepanovic blasts in 15 yard shot
down middle. Scepanovic earns a Yellow card for pulling his
shirt right off.
88 min...BCU David Velastegui GOAL...BCU Milos Vucinic passes
ball to BCU Andy Garcia who passed to Velastegui in open who
blasts 15 yarder into net. Velastegui earns a Yellow card for
pulling his shirt over his head--but not off.
90 min...YRS Alex Trujillo GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey cornerkick
from right has flying Trujillo head ball in from 7 yards on left
into top right corner of net.
94 min...game ends.
Final Score:.....York Region Shooters........4.....Brampton
City United.......4.....
Attendance was about 100 on this mild early evening with a bright
sun in the northwest and a gusty wind from the north (but both
for only the first half). One of the YRS cornerflags actually
tipped over in the wind.
Well certainly the most exciting game I've seen so far this year.
Most 'unfair' thing about the game was that the Shooters had to
play against a strong wind in the first half but the wind stopped
dead at halftime and so they had no second half advantage. BCU
were taking wind-aided 60 yard shots and goal kicks that were
threatening the YRS goal and getting to long through balls for the
first 45 minutes. I was shocked that YRS were able to score three
goals in the last 10 minutes of the half to take the lead.
BCU took advantage of the man advantage from the moment of the
sending off and scored the tieing and winning goal except that
YRS scored a justified tieing goal at 90 minutes.
Referee Justin Tasev gave out five Yellow cards--three to BCU--
that I noticed but two of the BCU ones were for excessive goal
celebrating. The tough calls were for the Penalty kick and the
Red card both favouring BCU. Both teams had later Penalty kick
appeals denied and BCU had a goal called back at 82 minutes
because a BCU player had flattened YRS defender Andre Manders
in the box.
Best non-scoring chances were at 43 minutes when YRS Desmond
Humphrey took a 40 yard freekick from the right that had YRS
Fitzroy Christey head the ball back on the left end line for
YRS Marcelo Capazzolo to blast a 12 yarder over the net.
1st half injury time (after all the scoring) had BCU Denny
Velastegui get one last wind-aided kick away on a 50 yard
shot from the left that was caught by the goalie at 15 yards
in front of a BCU player. 55 minutes had the YRS goalie jump
out of the way so as not to bump with BCU Milos Scepanovic
(and possibly give them another Penalty kick try) just inside
the box and let a defender make the clearance kick. 60 minutes
had Scepanovic 'pushed' over in the box but the ref didn't
award anything and drew a laugh when he gestered to levitate
him as Scepanovic spun around with his arms up while sitting
signalling what had happened to him. 64 minutes had Scepanovic
take a 25 yard shot from 25 yards on the left that the diving
goalie pushed wide right of the net. 82 minutes had BCU
Alex Braletic beat a defender near the right end line and
crossed into the box and the goalie and defender Manders team
up to clear the ball from the sliding Andy Garcia. Same minute
was thet 'no goal'call against BCU. 84 minutes had Scepanovic
kick from the right that a defender behind the goalie cleared.
Then BCU scored twice!
The result brings both teams up to 15 points but they lose
ground based on other league results and I figure they are
tied for 6th place.
