Title: Thoughts on Lambe?

lattes - March 26, 2012 05:16 AM (GMT)
Re-watching the game today and I have to say that Lambe really stuck out as a hard worker and fast as well as skilled.

He could have used a little more support up top but he seemed to do his job well.

Thoughts on this?

I like the taste better than chicken to be honest, even better with tzatziki.

zamperina - March 26, 2012 12:07 PM (GMT)
Would like him to use his speed and be able to cross the ball like Johnson

Ultra & Proud - March 26, 2012 01:45 PM (GMT)
Looks too soft and frail from what I've seen. I also wasn't impressed with how he gives up on plays.

Soolsma > Lambe

tDoB - March 26, 2012 01:58 PM (GMT)
I thought he did a lot more than Plata did in the match. Plata is always dangerous on the ball over the top but he is losing posession way to easily with the ball at his feet. Lambe at least seemed to be able to make that one move and get the ball to the next man or into the box.

TFCguy - March 26, 2012 02:10 PM (GMT)
I thought Saturday was the best performance we've seen from Reggie so far, compared to his past outings...he did a fair bit to build up the attack during the first half, after we gave up the early goal. The big question for me is whether he looked that good because of how lacking everybody else was...whether he can contribute like that or not, when everyone else is going good too.

CEO_RedGrad - March 26, 2012 03:07 PM (GMT)
still way too early to judge any new player. wait at least 10 matches.

I agree but if we want to win now I think Soolsma is a better option to start. Bringing Lambe off the bench to cover for a tired Plata/Soolsma instead of the puzzling Maund substitutions would be fine with me.

Neither Soolsma nor Lambe should start if everyone is fit. I'm all for keeping guys fresh, but not at the expense of a constantly changing, chemistry-less XI.

Lambe hasn't impressed so far, including in Fla, but it's early yet.

lattes - March 27, 2012 12:48 AM (GMT)
I am surprised at the reaction to Lambe, I agree you need 10+ games to judge a player but he does his job well, is fast and keeps possession.

If Eck and Morgan can be free to move up the flanks I think there will be enough support to start having our boys put the ball in the back of the net.

My $.02, I would like to see Koovermans start and get a couple of goals in while he has fresh guys to serve him the ball and if he is tired pull him later instead of vice versa.

most of this.

yeah, it was the first time i've been impressed. some of the Ricketts-esque moves were the first glimmers of "ohhh, THAT's why..." but some of the Ricketts-esque softness/unwillingness to get stuck in...

we're going to take to calling him Lambeykins - if he does well it's a tribute, if he stays soft, it works as well...

olegunnar - March 27, 2012 05:03 PM (GMT)
In the final third, to me, he showed very little. I'd like to see more creativity and consistency.

Still too early to judge, though.

TheatreRed - March 28, 2012 02:41 AM (GMT)
Not too impressive, but as many before have pointed out, it's still very early. I won't pass judgment quite yet.

Emory,
Our team was your ticket out.

Emory,
To that Football league that you dream about.

Well the names may have changed since you came around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)

Yeah we chant quite a lot cause we're the T-Dot, Emory
Emory, Emory, Emory.

:D

lattes - March 29, 2012 03:02 AM (GMT)
If Lambe keeps playing like this he needs his own song...

'oh Reggie, you came and you gave without taking...'

thank you U+P. thank you verrrry much!

CEO_RedGrad - March 29, 2012 03:55 AM (GMT)
Excellent performance by Lambe, caused them some real problems on the flank, and put in alot of good crosses, and good defensive work as well.

Ultra & Proud - March 29, 2012 02:28 PM (GMT)
He showed me something yesterday. Still seems soft but looking better.

DistilledNick - March 29, 2012 04:56 PM (GMT)
He looked tired in the last half hour or so, and I actually think he should have come off instead of Soolsma. But before that I was impressed with him.

redsofanfield - March 29, 2012 06:38 PM (GMT)
he's a talent. like nick said, he faded towards the end but his crossing is much better than morgans and it looks like he can play both wings.

We're one closer to having a team of Platitas :campione:

Ultra & Proud - March 29, 2012 06:53 PM (GMT)
I think he will work well as the switch off guy with Plata. Either one starts and then bring the other in as a spark plug.

Neither looks cut out for 90 minutes against the more physical teams and I like Plata off the bench. He can be a real game changer.

lattes - April 3, 2012 07:02 PM (GMT)
Just read yesterday that the reason he didn't play Saturday was Flu. (Wondering if he was starting it during the first SL game?)

Let's hope he is A-OK for the next SL game, I think he could have been a game changer against Columbus.

I think he had a smashing golazo today

Milky - April 21, 2012 11:14 PM (GMT)
Yeah he's good. Not really flashy but effective. Can cross as well as score. Lacks a little defensively but then again that's not really his job. I think he'll push Soolsma for that starting spot on the right, which is saying a lot because I think Soolsma is fantastic. But yeah it's nice to have options and his first goal today was particularly good.

"Fantastic"?

We're really buying into our own hype now aren't we. I was never a hater but the fact that Soolsma has become "serviceable", even "useful", is an achievement for him. Regardless of what people like to think pace and physique are still important parts of the modern game. How many other teams would Soolsma be a starter for?

Lambe seems like he might be a better version of Ricketts. He had some great moments and was killing Segares for a while but seemed to completely lack the final ball. Until he suddenly scored two. And then went back to mishitting crosses. There's potential there certainly but he'll need to be way more consistent.

Has to be a starter most weeks though if we're still playing 4-3-3 for the rest of the season.

I've noticed that first impressions count for a lot on these boards. Any new member is automatically disliked if they have different opinions and for players it's not a case of "what have you done for me lately" but rather "what did you do when you first arrived." Soolsma had a slow start to his TFC career but he has improved by leaps and bounds and I would argue is currently our best player (with Johnson a close second and Koevermans third based on current form). Soolsma creates chances either through his own individual technique or by crossing/passing to teammates. He can set up, cross, and score equally well and as for pace and physicality, I'd say he's got that too. And to answer your question I believe Soolsma would be a starter on any other MLS club that uses an attacking formation with wingers. But Lambe is not far off and I think, again based on current form, they are both ahead of Plata in the pecking order.

SoccMan - April 22, 2012 12:55 PM (GMT)
Lambe today scored two goals very positive, however , he also had a hand in two goals scored against us. He lost his marker on Chicago's 2nd. goal and his bad pass was intercepted which started the play by Chicago on their 3rd. and winning goal unfortunately.

roue - April 22, 2012 01:33 PM (GMT)
Lambe is doomed ..scored 2 goals early in his career in one game , see Ricketts , Martina ..

You may very well be right Milky. BTW, I too appreciate Soolsma as he so often seems to be able to pull something out of his little bag of tricks. I can't call him great as he can be a bit less than quick and his shot isn't the best but I will say he's been pretty damned good.

Not many, but that's including us. Soolsma is a reliable depth player, and continues to make meaningful contributions to the team whenever he's called upon. Is he the best player on the squad? No. But has he put together a consistent string of performances that convince me he doesn't deserve to wear red? No.
