Title: CSL 2011--Week 4

Rocket Robin - May 28, 2011 05:27 AM (GMT)
Result of the Friday May 27th, 2011 CSL game between Serbian White Eagles and York Region Shooters played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke at 8:00pm.

Final Score:.....Serbian White Eagles........0................York Region Shooters.......0......

Attendance was less than 100 on this cool night. There was a misty rain falling almost the entire game and that probably limited the number of fans.

A tie was a fair result for the evenness of play but 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 all would have been believable scores.
The White Eagles dominated at the start of the game but the Shooters fought their way back into it but were continuously thwarted throughout the game by the number of offsides called against them especially against team captain Kadian Lecky. Lecky had scored three goals this season in the three games they'd played this season. White Eagles Milos Scepanovic had scored two for his team in their two games. Both these players were once again stars for their teams tonight although the goalies—Milos Djurkovic of White Eagles and Camilo Benzi of the Shooters had at times to be spectacular to each earn a shutout.

At 19 minutes YRS Kadian Lecky had a breakaway but SWE Mirko Medic got back in time to slide in
behind Lecky and poke the ball away at 10 yards and only a cornerkick resulted. At 30 minutes SWE Kirie Dimitrov crossed the ball in from near the left sideline and Alex Braletic took a scissor kick from 12 yards that was wide left of the net. At 31 minutes, YRS Jason De Thomasis was on a 1 on 2 run down the middle when Medic once again caught up and made a sliding tackle from behind at 18 yards resulting in a freekick on the edge of the box which De Thomasis took and shot just over the bar. At 42 minutes, Dimitrov took a 30 yard freekick from the right that was partially cleared and Scepanovic took two shots for 15 yards—one was blocked by a defender and the rebound was poked forward but saved by the diving goalie and a defender cleared the ball for a cornerkick. In first half injury time, YRS Desmond Humphrey took a cornerkick from the left that had a leaping player in the middle (maybe Aundre Rollins) head a 6 yarder just a bit high and wide left of the net. In the second half, at 48 minutes Scepanovic took a cornerkick from the right that had Medic head a 20 yarder that hit the hand of Aundre Rollins at 16 yards but there was no penalty kick given. Television replays showed a hand ball. At 61 minutes YRS Desmond Humphrey got behind the defence but he overran the ball while going around the goalie and was forced too far left to be able to take a shot. A minute later YRS Ali Hanam rushed and crossed from about 10 yards along the left end line which the goalie jumped to get the ball before it could connect with the head of Kadian Lecky just one yard off the left post. At 76 minutes Braletic's cornerkick from the left had the YRS goalie miss but SWE Nikola Milosevic couldn't quite turn an 8 yard header on the right. At 88 minutes Braletic had a cornerkick from the right that was tapped to Scepanovic and back for Braletic to cross into the box. SWE Shawn Brown on the left took a 15 yard roller that hit the outside left webbing of the net.

Referee Manuel Orellano kept the game under control but the referee's assistants kept the offside flags flying.

Long time forward Sasa Viciknez was not in the lineup for the White Eagles as he's still injured.

This is only week four of the CSL season but this game was the first rematch of the year. White Eagles had won 1-0 on the road during the league's first weekend with a goal from Nikola Milosevic.

I noticed on the Shooters lineup a new player for them—Dino Gardiner. He had recently made the headlines as one of three players dismissed by the TFC Academy for 'not committing' to the Academy but pursuing tryouts overseas. I asked him after the game and he said he'd been to tryouts in Germany already but was back for now and there would be other tryouts later.

Serbian White Eagles must have had in the back of their mind the game on Sunday with their main rivals Toronto Croatia. Now that should bring out a crowd to Centennial Stadium (both teams used this venue for home games). Croatia will be considered the home team for this match.

This game was broadcast live on Rogers Community channel in the Toronto area and will be shown again at 8:00pm on Saturday.

Rocket Robin - May 29, 2011 04:25 AM (GMT)
Result of the Saturday May 28, 2011 CSL game between TFC Academy and Capital City FC played at Lamport Stadium at 6:00pm.

24 min...TFCA Jordan Hamilton GOAL...TFCA Daniel Jodah rushes in on right and rolls cross into box from 18 yards. Defender can't control it when Hamilton shoots and rebound has Hamilton poke shot in from 8 yards to center of net beyond goalie Clinton Irwin.

72 min...CCFC Evroy Junior Ellis GOAL...CCFC Emir Zrnic freekick from 22 yards down middle has goalie block then Ellis pounds in rebound from 10 yards.

82 min...TFCA RED card...Goalie Angelo Cavalluzzo earns a direct ejection for tripping CCFC Alexandre Destine just outside the box while he was dribbling past him. As the goalie was already down and the last man back, referee Yusri Rudolph had to send him off. Defender Nathan Kelsey then pulled on the goalie shirt and gloves and finished the game in that position.

85 min...CCFC Alexandre Destine GOAL...CCFC William Beauge shot from 15 yards has goalie stop but can't hang on to ball and Destine gets rebound from 3 yards and knocks ball over the line into the right side of net.

Final Score:.....TFC Academy.........1......Capital City FC......2........

Attendance was about 200 with almost half of them TFC fans who had stayed downtown after the MLS game that ended at 2:30pm (although many would say the game was over at halftime with a 3-0 score). Some would have been entertained by a big screen presentation of Manchester United vs Barcelona final at BMO Field before getting here.

Other than the Red card, referee Yusri Rudolph gave out four Yellow cards to CCFC and two to TFCA that I noticed in this rather rough game.

The young TFCA team played well considering the circumstances. Academy director Stuart Neely said the team has six players away at the Canadian national training game. There were a further five players absent for the MLS Reserve League game between TFC and Philadelphia. That included the CSL's leading scorer Stefan Vukovic who has scored two hat tricks in three games so far. They were also squeezed because they had a CSL Reserve game to play this afternoon with their Junior Academy team...they won 3-1, I heard against North York Astros Reserves. They made up the numbers with two 1996 born players and five 1995 born players (between 14 to 16) and only had three players on the bench—no extra goalie. Dylan Carreiro performed the best in my opinion mostly because he got to take all the freekicks and cornerkicks to get play started although I did like Jordan Hamilton taking a 25 yard freekick from the right that he just missed bending into the top left corner at 59 minutes.

CCFC's Alexandre Destine created all his magic from the 80th minute onwards because that's the moment he entered the game as a substitute. The rest of the team hadn't been clicking and TFCA goalie and defenders were blocking and clearing the ball quite well.

CCFC had a full roster of subs and it looked like some extra players in the stands. It will be interesting to see how they do in tomorrow's game against Mississauga Eagles FC.

Defending Champion Brantford Galaxy started the 2011 season on a winning note with a 1-0 win last week vs Windsor in Brantford. The team looks just as strong as the team that won the CSL title in their first season...Their original home opener vs
Serbian White Eagles was ppd do to wet field conditions..no make up date yet.

Result of the Sunday May 29, 2011 CSL game between Toronto Croatia and Serbian White Eagles played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke at 8:00pm.

10 min...TC Tomislav Ples GOAL...Ples gets pass up the middle from TC Tihomir Maletic at 25 yards and he puts 10 yard shot through goalie Milos Djurkovic's legs into right corner of net.

Final Score:.....Toronto Croatia.......1.......Serbian White Eagles........0.........

Attendance was about 300 for this game started in overcast with the threat of rain. In fact, in what would have been the 47th minute of the game, rain began to fall but it was the lightning in the distance all could see from late in the first half that caused the halftime to be extended and finally the game to be called off. For the third year in a row, there was no segregation between the two groups of supporters but I'm sure the pending weather reports had limited attendance of both groups. The other Toronto Croatia home game exactly two weeks ago was played in a downpour for the entire game.

The CSL league rules are that a game only has to complete the first half for it to be official according to
League Administrator Pino Jazbec who was in attendance. The game could only be restarted 30 minutes after the last bolt of lightning was visible. There was never longer than two minutes between another bolt went off. The game was also being squeezed by the City of Toronto as the stadium lights automatically shut off at 11:00pm. That is pretty generous because most games are over by 10:00pm. That factor had to be worked in counting backwards from that point. It was just before 10:00pm that the game was called off as the lightning was getting even closer. I told the PA announcer to announce that the 1-0 score would stand and that may have pacified the 50 people who were still there under shelter waiting for a resolution.

Referee David Barrie kept the game under control and kept the starters from coming back to start the second half.

Sandi Matika earned the shutout for Toronto Croatia. Both he and Milos Djurkovic for White Eagles
didn't have any other tough shots (other than the goal) to deal with although both had to catch some crosses and shots over crowds of players waiting for rebounds.

Reserve League action...Brantford Galaxy B 0 TFC jr academy 3...in what was a highly entertaing match becamed runied by the offical doing the Match..In the second half TFC scored a beauty freekick the keeper had no chance on so they
deserved that lead..then the ref went nuts ( not uncommon for CSA refs) 2 Galaxy Players were sent off for nothing and a real questionable penalty for TFC killed the
game off....im a season ticket holder for the Galaxy (2nd season) and TFC (5th season) so i went into the game unbiased, just wanted to see the TFC jrs, and i was shocked by the diving and acting Jimmy Brennan has brought to this team its obscene for a club like TFC to get involed in something like this. yes the Refs should have made the TFC players accountable for their actions, but so should
Jimmy B...if hes trying to make it as a football manager..he has no chance..
lets let the teams decide the games, not the officals..
