Description: The country, not Mr. DP Ryan Keay

Is anyone else excited about North Korea solely so we might learn a little bit more about the most bizarre country on Earth? I'm very excited.

AgainstSteve - May 1, 2010 03:47 AM (GMT)
I'll get this started ...

They've courted some controversy in Zimbabwe where their training camp is going to be.

It was going to be in a part of the country where troops trained by North Korea massacred 20,000 people during the 80s. Whuddya thunk it? Apparently, the training camp has now been moved to the capital.

And last post of this blitz...

Thats the best shirt ever!!!!!!!!!! Just on so many levels.

And ya, Steve, I totally agree with you. I'm still baffled why there allowed into the tournament?

I have a small North Korea flag from the Under 20 World Cup in 2007
I picked it up outside Frank Clair Stadium before the final Group stage doubleheaders of Argentina vs. North Korea and Brazil vs. USA

haven't thought out the pros and cons of supporting the team, do you seperate it from the regime?, but seemed right at the time :P
I might crack it out for when they face Portugal and Brazil though.

Im excited to see them play for sure...

I always got love for my fellow communists

:campione:

I think you have to. I mean it's not like the North Korean people have any way of finding out that people are cheering for them other than the newspaper which will inevitably have a story about people cheering for the team (on page 2 after a front page featuring Kim Jong-Il latest golfing exploits).

North Korea's kits will apparently be supplied by Legea. JUST LIKE THE TORONTO LYNX!

Also, Deadspin has proclaimed North Korea Soccer merch to be the must have irony item of the summer.

SeanKeay - May 29, 2010 03:25 PM (GMT)
Ive been on ebay for the past 3 days looking at that shirt, and i just don't have it in me to put my 15 dollars down and get it.

Im sure ill bite the bullet and do it, I just don't want to be the guy taken down tactical style when I walk to work during the G20 summit with my shirt on.

zacRWE - May 29, 2010 11:02 PM (GMT)
I'm also considering it!

TFCtoMUFC - May 31, 2010 09:11 PM (GMT)
To anyone going down to SA. If you find an authentic DPRK kit, don't be a stranger. Pick up an XL and I will pay you back upon return.

Star reporter gets treated by the North Korean team doctor

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY NORTH KOREA BEING IN THE WORLD CUP IS SO AWESOME.

(Please ignore the part where the author has to explain that the team doctor is not evil. Ugh.)

superkitten - June 21, 2010 01:12 PM (GMT)
Ha, that was a good story.

I had some friends that went to North Korea a few years ago, the stories they told were weeeirrrddd, but the bit about not making eye contact and generally feeling uncomfortable in the presence of foreigners appears to be nation wide.

Holy shit, I didn't recognize him with the glasses. (And clearly didn't read the byline)

bgnewf - June 21, 2010 06:59 PM (GMT)
plus how he stretched a scratch and a very limited encounter with a player that was about 5-6 words exchanged between them into a two page essay was unreal.

Is this twat getting paid by the Fucking word?

socceronly - June 21, 2010 09:18 PM (GMT)
It's a disgrace that he is actually there.

chief. - June 21, 2010 09:50 PM (GMT)
meh. don't like him. but it is an interesting story to get behind the scenes while most journos will never get the chance.

TFCtoMUFC - June 22, 2010 12:31 AM (GMT)
Mathematically DPRK are eliminated, but that hasn't stopped them before...
