Let's see...we've pissed off United by
signing Tevez.
Chelsea's not happy because of the whole
Terry thingSigned Barry from under
Liverpool's noseSo how should we piss off Arsenal .
Oh, I know! :ph43r:
I've followed poor, plucky, unsuccessful football teams my whole life. I don't feel the least bit of guilt or shame over my new found love of Arab sheiks.
Long Live Modern Football!
* Yes, I'm aware that I'll be talking to myself in this thread. That's OK...more glory for me!

no, I'm happy to see City messing up the others. i'd love to see them do well! (how does 2nd sound?!?!)
as for tevez, i for one don't think fergie is that unhappy to see him go, so we know the reds have other plans... (not all based on their new #7 i'm hoping)
sweetowngoal i know you remember my theory re: Mancs (even though I know you haven't bought into it yet)... however do remember, my conjectures are based on a lifetime of going to Manchester...
good on you city! :D
(now if only Ipswich's new owner also started spending his cash, my favourite three could be THE top three ;) :P )

I would be in Manchester for that (no matter WHERE the game was). What a love-in/tough love situation/overall celebration that would be!
A kit ? for you though.... What kind of star would that put on the kit, considering the "successes" that are already being celebrated on their shirt?

Well we really only had one (Mr. de Souza) last year...and he only bothered to show up about half the time...so...
Tevez, who is a gamer, has me damn well giddy.
The Terry stuff is...something...but, as I said, there is a symbolic benefit to stealing a player like that away, regardless of what it means in the pitch.

And Terry will add some presence that if nothing else will result in improved "results" from the referees. A tad overpriced in most people's opinions, but really does that matter to City now?
I think De Jong will also step it up this year so stay positive!

I'd just like to add that I called the Tevez signing back in April. I was having a conversation with Bruce at the Gate in which I suggested that he'd A) be a great fit and B) the optics of bringing him over would play really well.
I'm not sure if Bruce remembers (it was at The Gate after all), but I'm tipping my own damn cap on this one...

I actually felt smoke being blown up my ass when I came into this thread.
Remind me, weren't the Sky Blues supposed to be playing in Europe, no no, the Champions League, this year? Isn't that what the oligarchs called for last year?
The sorry sack o' shit's name is Barry, not Berry, (though he is a bit of a fruit) and he would've been a 2nd choice left back for us at best. I said it before I'll say it again, like Shanks: "He couldn't play anyway. We only wanted him for the reserves." It was all about the dough, though, right?
Look at these signings...Tevez, Barry, Adebayor...it's like a who's who of disloyal fucks. Roll the dice with them and see where you end up.
I will take bets that City wins nothing and finishes in 7th or worse next season. It's a certainty.
This year you have all kinds of players that can fuck off unannounced to their native lands for awhile as things aren't working out, like the little Brazillian did last season when he wanted some of the frock cock.
When I think Man City, 5 words come to mind: Macca and Fowler's retirement party.

7th would be fine. It would likely be a Europa spot.
But I do enjoy your passion in the same way that I enjoy the irony of those associated with the big four bitching about players making "money" decisions...like it's somehow wrong.

I have a bad feeling that all of those big-heads on one team may be a recipe for a fast implosion of the epic kind. I would love to see their "billion dollar plan" blow up in their face, but part of me also thinks bin Citeh could make a shock run for the title this season. Then again, we saw how well things played out for them last season...
I hardly think adding 4-5 strikers to your squad makes for a winning formula, but who am I to judge. Oh, and please, please let this Hitabarndoor deal go through. I would love to watch the elephant washer waste away his life on that gold-plated bench you lot have.

Well...we'll know in
a few days | QUOTE |
Arsenal have accepted City's £25m bid and Adebayor has given his prospective new employers sufficient encouragement to organise a work-permit hearing at which the striker received permission to change employers. Adebayor, however, has concerns about being perceived as money-driven if he should leave a club that is hugely popular in Africa and go to one that has a much lower standing. |
This is why City has to throw a lot of money at players. It's in a cycle where it has to do better to attract better players and it has to attract better players to do better. I get that and I accept it.
The reality is that a Europa spot would be a great accomplishment for the club in '09-'10. And, despite the fact that big four fans are universally dismissive of such things, anyone that has followed this team for any length of time quite rightly doesn't give a fuck what big four fans think (no offense guys).
As for fans of non-big four teams that didn't win the lottery, I can understand their jealousy. I'd likely feel scorn if the good Sheikh had bought Wigan. But the truth is...they all would be loving it if they had the chance to piss off the upper tier.
And City is pissing off the upper tier who don't like that it’s inflating the transfer and salary market. I'm under no illusions that United, Arsonal, Liverpool and (less so) Chelsea have a bunch of resources that go beyond money and that City can only dream of. Ultimately, City will lose this battle. So as a fan I can only hope for a brief run to fuel the stories for years to come...
Maybe grab fourth and enjoy the trip to Milan. Or maybe a FA Cup, hell a League Cup, run, which would be magical (and mean more than it would to "you lot.” No offense.). If we're really lucky then maybe City can stand side by side with the Spurs/Everton's of the world and become yearly Europa players. That would be awesome and, although not G14 worthy, an accomplishment when you look at the world of football in its entirety.
And if they were to ever pull a Blackburn...well, that would make the ride down the table again a hell of a lot easier to take, wouldn't it?

Do we all agree that no matter who they bring in, the little nutjob that is Stephen Ireland is still the best player in the side?
I love that fuckhead. Too bad he's too embarassed to rejoin the national side anytime soon. Though I bet he changes his mind quick when we pip the I-ties to the auto WC qualification spot.
Not at all far-fetched considering we are only 1 point behind them with 3 matches remaining, 2 of which are at home to S&M and the Italians, one away in Cyprus. B-)

I read not too long ago that Ireland is considering rejoining the national side for the Fall games. Would be great to see - he's a phenomenal talent and should really be in South Africa. Now that he shaves his head there shouldn't be any more trouble.

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has exclusively told F365 that he doesn't want Man City to sign John Terry because he's a Cockney cry baby.
City might be willing to shell out £30m for the England captain but massive fan Gallagher would rather they signed Joleon Lescott.
"I don't like John Terry and I never have," Gallagher told F365. "He's got funny eyes and he's a cry baby.
"He's also a Cockney and he'd absolutely be coming just for the money."
Gallagher would also pass on a move for Emmenual Adebayor, saying: "I hope it falls through.
"I have always had a great dislike for Adebayor. I don't like all that silly dancing by the corner flag - I prefer a swift handshake and back to the game.
"We've got Roque Santa Cruz who can do a job in the same position."
When asked which footballer Mark Hughes should target next, Gallagher said pragmatically: "Joleon Lescott - he's a good centre half who's getting better. Either him or Matty Upson would do for me."[QUOTE]

Yes, we can agree on the awesomeness of Stephen Ireland. By far the best player on the field last year (and the only significant survivor from the 8-1 loss to Middlesbrough at the end of ’08...)

TOareaFan - July 16, 2009 10:18 PM (GMT)
As a neutral when it comes to the EPL....I am hoping that Man City do crack the dominance of the big 4 for, at least, a couple of seasons.
The irony is, I think, that this big money gambit by City is the only way to break the dominance of big money in the EPL
Right now there are 4 teams with big money and while I agree that Arsenal spend less than Liverpool who, in turn, spend less than United who +/- (depending on year) spend less than Chelski.....they ALL can and do spend more (over an extended period of time) than the other clubs....because they can....every year they get bigger tv money, bigger EPL money and they get CL money...which breeds bigger sponsorship money, tour money, etc etc etc.
It is the biggest cause (IMHO) of the lack of competitiveness in the EPL. Yes they are all well run clubs but, just like other clubs, they do make mistakes (in terms of player signing, etc) it is just that their mistakes don't mean as much to them as they have the money, resources and reputation to fix/replace the mistakes.
If the CL money (and resultants commercial spin offs) was not as guaranteed, the money men behind these clubs would be a bit tighter with the reigns and that might (just might) make them slightly less dominant.....the only way to make the CL money less guaranteed is to have, at least, a 5th club that can challenge annually for those 4 spots!
So, City, spend away, build a City of Manchester Galacticos and lets see if we can't make the EPL a bit more competitive.

re: United spending money...
Since the Glazers came in, United has spent 500,000 more Pounds than they have brought in. Yes of course they are big spenders, and are a huge financial machine, but they have recently kept things in relative check on the transfer market (of course this hasn't always been by design ;) )

got it but I did say "they ALL can and do spend more (over an extended period of time)"
If you look at a point in time (ie. right after you just sold a single player for 80 million pounds and haven't had much time to spend it all yet ;) ) then the math won't work.
I still stand by the statement (without doing the actual adding up) that over the long haul, these 4 clubs can/have spend significantly more money than any of the other clubs.....to my mind, it would be good to see how they will each operate if they cannot be assured of the rich money continuing to flow (for what its worth, it would be my guess that Arsenal and Man United {with their current managers} are the two best equipped to make the best of that situation....but that is just a guess).

So Hitabarndoor had yet another medical at Manchester bin Citeh today. They must think this guy is a prime candidate for H1N1 if they're making him commit to 2 physicals in the span of 4 days. ;) Please, for the sake of all that is holy, take this ingrate off our hands! I can't wait to see the look on his face when he quickly realizes that he's going to play 2nd fiddle to the likes of Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy!
Oh, and the reason for the delay in Barndoor's signing? Apparently he needed "time to think things over" as he was concerned that the people of Africa would view his switch as "greedy". Yeah, because the entire nation of Togo, who Barndoor has consistantly shamed on an international level, really give an elephant's ass where he plays his sorry excuse for football. <_<

Clearly United fans, like whomever photoshopped this, or the Stretford End folks who hang the "34" banner, never obsess over City.... In other newsMeh. At least he's not a forward. |
True, but signing Kolo will ammount to 8 defenders in the side...just 2 short of your 10 forwards..
Does anyone else suspect that Mark Hugh's will be packing his bags soon? There's no way Emperor Palpatine bin Laden will let all of these high-profile ego junkies play under "small-time" Hughsie, will he? ;)

I'm willing to bet that the most productive transfer will be that of Santa Cruz.
Looking forward to seeing him surrounded with really talented players. Should be good for him.
