Not quite the way I'd have thrown it, but I'd have to say I wouldn't like being hit by it.

????????

OK, aside from the fact that it kinda hit the guy, what was RIGHT about it?

As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a vid of YOU throwing an elbow as part of a combo against a heavy bag that would have done quite a bit more damage than that one. ninja.gif biggrin.gif

It was a great example of MT elbow striking, I liked it a lot. An elbow is not a punch!

Was that direct to me or Peter?

My view on the elbow:
Most people in MT matches tend to try to throw the elbow be it part of a combination ( not an ideal because its is a "zero" range moves and has a very limited "striking arc" and can easily miss when part of a combo) or as a single which is better but they tend to throw it like a hook and telegraph it.
In this clip, the thai fighter throws it off the clinch, just like they teach you in MT 101 and throws it very short and compact.

OOOOOPSS!
My bad!
I was thinking of the clip I'd seen of you.... I must be getting too used to the relatively limited number of "respondents".

Hmmm.... I tend not to think from a Muy Thai viewpoint.
"Most" elbows are going to come off an infighting combination of "some sort".
I think I "prefer" throwing them from the inside line on a level, if not rising, path. The fighter in the vid seemed to throw it from the outside line and it looked to be impacting on a downward path without much body weight behind it. (let alone "thrust"/"drive")

It was from the outside, yes and downward yes, as most elbows tend to be off the clinch, as for drive, did you notice his legs and positioning?
He was semi-side stepping and came over with a nice short and well torqued elbow.

Getting a ko like that usually indicates sufficient body weight and drive! The elbow has no link like the fist and a seemingly innocuous impact can do a lot of damage. He seemed to use a rotational plus shifting body mechanic. His cog was off to the left and he whipped it through.

Correct, in perfect "thai form".

That's not what I'd call "drive"... and I don't believe that I agree with any of your other categorizations, either.

That said, it DID work.

Please feel free to show an example within that same context of the video ( outside and clinching).

Nah!

Just doing one against some (6?) standing slabs.

The "form" is "closer" to ONE form of what I like/teach.
(although not much else is)
