|Information round-up of Marvel Studios' upcoming movies, following "The Avengers" (culled from various cources).|
Iron Man 3.
Directed by Shane Black ("Kiss Kiss Bang Bang").
Written by Shane Black and Drew Pearce ("No Heroics").
Starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia "Pepper" Potts. Don Cheadle and Paul Bettany are expected to return as James Rhodes/War Machine and JARVIS. Jon Favreau is not expected to return as Harold "Happy" Hogan, who'll probably be written out of the movie.
Before Favreau's departure, the Mandarin was set to be the main villain of the movie, and Chow Yun-Fat ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"), Rain ("Ninja Assassin") and Donnie Yen ("Ip Men") were being considered to play him. It is not clear if Black plans to use him.
Black has stated that the movie will be more self-contained, with no big references to other superheroes, and will have a Tom Clancy-esque spy thriller setting, with more realistic villains rather than the armored supervillains from "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2".
The Stark Tower and the SHIELD helicarrier will appear, according to rumors.
The movie will be released on May 3, 2013.
Brian Kirk ("Game of Thrones") is in negotiations to direct.
Written by Don Payne ("Thor").
Starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Idris Elba as Heimdall. Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Joshua Dallas and Tadanobu Asano are expected to return as Odin, Frigga, Sif, Volstagg, Fandral and Hogun. It is unclear if Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgard will return as Loki, Jane Foster, Darcy Lewis and Erik Selvig.
The movie will be mostly set in Asgard and feature a large cast of Asgardians, in addition to exploring more of the Nine Realms and its creatures. The scope will also be bigger, with the movie being said to be Marvel Studios' most ambitious movie to date, second only to "The Avengers".
The Enchantress and the Executioner are rumored to be the villains. The Asgardian warrior Balder and the Goddess of death, Hela, are also expected to appear.
The movie will be released on July 26, 2013.
Directed by Edgar Wright ("Scott Pilgrim VS. The World").
Written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish ("Attack of the Block").
According to Wright, the Script is self-contained, planned as a standalone movie and not the first of a series of films. According to rumors, the plot follows Hank Pym acting as the superhero spy Ant-Man in the 1960's and eventually retiring in order to become a scientist. He comes out of retirement in modern times to help Scott Lang, a low-class thief who steals his equipment and becomes the new Ant-Man, to face an old enemy who returns more powerful than ever.
Adrien Brody's ("The Pianist") agent has lobbyed for him to have a role in the movie.
A reference to Pym as Erik Selvig's close friend who has dealings with SHIELD was cut from "Thor".
The movie is expected to be released in 2013/2014.
Written by Joshua Oppenheimer ("Conan, The Barbarian") and Thomas Donnely ("Sahara").
Potential directors have already been selected, but no names were revealed. The project is apparently being fast-tracked as one of the studio's priorities in their second wave of movies, following "The Avengers".
Patrick Dempsey ("Grey's Anatomy") is lobbying for the role of Stephen Strange.
The movie might be released in 2013/2014.
Written by Mark Bailey ("The Last of the Tribe: The Epic Quest").
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ("Lost") is lobbying to play Prince T'Challa/Black Panther. Wesley Snipes ("Blade"), Chiwetel Ejiofor ("2012") and Djimon Hounson ("The Island") have also been rumored to play the character in the past.
Wakanda appears in one of the monitors of SHIELD's warehouse in "Iron Man 2", and Vibranium is mentioned in "Captain America: The First Avenger".
The movie has no expected release date.
Captain America 2.
Joe Johnston is expected to return as the director.
Written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Starring Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America. Sebastian Stan is rumored to return as James "Bucky" Barnes/Winter Soldier. Hugo Weaving and Toby Jones are expected to return as Johann Schmidt/Red Skull and Dr. Armin Zola. Amanda Righetti, rumored to be playing Sharon Carter in "The Avengers", is also expected to appear.
The movie is expected to be set in modern times, but Johnston, Markus and McFeely have alluded to the possibility of setting it on World War II or having flashbacks of Captain America's missions alongside the Howling Commandos spliced together with the main plot.
