 Half life 2/ Gmod, Info?

Can anyone gimme some info on how much it costs to get Gmod on half life 2 for PC cause its on my christmas list, and also, how it works..

First off You need half life 2

And when you get onto steam, the program that runs half life 2
there should be some games that you can buy, and one says garrys mod 10
its about 9 pound I think
