This was painted to commemorate the day when the Third Estate (and a few members of the First Estate, but forget about them--may animals piss on their graves) met and made the oath to create our constitution despite the opposition of the monarchy. They vowed "never to separate, and to meet wherever circumstances demand, until the constitution of the kingdom is established and affirmed on solid foundations" Vive la Liberté!
