Russia has crushed Iran, Germany has rolled Angola, Spain beat Greece in the rematch of the 06 WC, and Lithuania pulls off a minor shocker beating Argentina by 4. USA/China tips off at 10:15 AM EST.

uwbadger12000 - August 10, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
US won 101-70. Lebron played great. Other than Michael Redd, though, we really struggled from 3.

motown.champion - August 11, 2008 04:26 AM (GMT)
Wade also did pretty well.

Statalyzer - August 11, 2008 04:57 PM (GMT)
Our women turned our basketball dominance into a 1-2 punch with their own blowout of China. Unfortunately, Benedict Hammond and Russia won their game against South Korea.

Benedict Hammond

Ohh come on, she wasn't going to make the US team anyways, and she has duel citizenship in Russia. Wouldn't you want to go to the Olympics too if you had the chance?

DawgPound47 - August 11, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
I have no problem with Hammond either.

Sure I would, but I shouldn't be able to just go play for whoever I want. This is the Olympics, not the professional leagues. There should not be free agency any more than there should be a draft.

You would go play where you have citizenship, yep. Correct you are.

DawgPound47 - August 12, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
Today's Results

Lithuania 99
Iran 67

Croatia 85
Russia 78

Argentina 85
Australia 68

Greece 87
Germany 64

Spain 85
China 75

United States of America 97
Angola 76

Now it gets interesting for us. Play Greece on Aug 14 8:00 AM ET and Spain Aug 16 10:15 AM ET.

hsmall111 - August 12, 2008 05:54 PM (GMT)
China had Spain dead to rights in their game this morning and choked away a 14 point 4th quarter lead.

Give me enough time and enough incentives and that can be almost anywhere.

She's FAR from the only athlete to do that too. I agree it kind of sucks how easy it is for some people to get on another country's Olympic team, but it should be the responsibility of the Olympic committee to monitor and change the rules to account for that.

I can't blame any of the athletes though. I'd do it too if it meant I had a chance to play in the Olympics. Sure I'd rather play for my home country, but it would still be awesome none-the-less.

uwbadger12000 - August 14, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
USA wins again 92-69 over Greece.

Statalyzer - August 14, 2008 03:09 PM (GMT)
Spain is next. Pau Gasol vs Dwight Howard should be toughness mismatch, we'd better not lose this one. The way we are playing right now, Argentina should be the only team that can hang with us.

DawgPound47 - August 14, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
I just watched the game after DVRing it.

Pretty impressive.

Revenge is sweet.

osu5nc - August 14, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
Not quite Dream Team II, but we're winning easily so far.

DawgPound47 - August 16, 2008 01:54 PM (GMT)
About five minutes until the USA game, and if my math is correct.. the medal round is already set.

Lithuania
Argentina
Australia
Croatia
Greece
Spain
United States
China

DawgPound47 - August 16, 2008 03:53 PM (GMT)
So who's not impressed yet?

Bring on Argentina

motown.champion - August 16, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
u mean Lithuania they already beat argentina...

motown.champion - August 16, 2008 05:23 PM (GMT)
dunno why china is in the medal round, they have not won a game yet i believe. Is it cause their the host?

They've beaten Angola and Germany. It should be an interesting game between Greece and China coming up. The winner will be placed in the Americans side of the bracket, so you wonder if both sides will try to tank it, even though they would never admit it.

hsmall111 - August 18, 2008 12:49 PM (GMT)
Quarterfinals are now offically set...

USA vs. Aussies
Greece vs. Argentina

Spain vs. Croatia
China vs. Lithuania

motown.champion - August 18, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)

hsmall111 - August 20, 2008 03:58 PM (GMT)
Great back and forth game between Greece and Argentina. Delfino was on fire down the stretch in the 4th quarter. Spanoulis had a chance to win it with at the end with a 3, but the defending Olympic gold medalists move on. All chalk moves on as the Semis are now set for Friday...

USA vs. Argentina
Spain vs. Lithuania

STLCardinals - August 20, 2008 08:14 PM (GMT)
Wow, I'm glad we ended up winning. I watched the first quarter and the Aussies were hitting three after three and we were having a hard time making jump shots. It was not looking good..

STLCardinals - August 24, 2008 01:15 PM (GMT)
Champs!!

Statalyzer - August 25, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
Not sure how we let Pau Gasol score 21 points against Dwight Howard, but still, a win is a win and we won all our games by double digits.
