The year is 1999. Only two terms ago the famous Harry Potter vanquished the Dark Lord, Voldemort. Peace has returned to the world and people once again leave their homes unafraid of attack. The Death Eaters have all been captured or are in hiding and are in Azkaban, which is now guarded by Hippogriffs and a new order of Ministry workers, the Vigilars.

Minerva McGonagall has resigned, feeling the loss of Albus Dumbeldore too deeply to continue working. The school is now being run by Kayson Summers, a mysterious young lady from the Southern Hemisphere. Several of the staff have also left. Severus Snape has been excuted for his crimes and the Malfoy family, staunch supporters of Lord Voldemort, have been sent to Azkaban.

Harry Potter and his longtime friend Ronald Weasley are working in the Ministry of Magic as Aurors, under a new Minister. Hermione Granger is the Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts. Ginny Weasley, Harry's romantic interest, has followed in her brother's footsteps and now works with dragons along side Charlie Weasley in Romania, where he returned after the war finished. Percy Weasley was put into St Mungo's to have his head 'examined' and after several months was reformed from the self-important, pompous git he had been when Cornelius Fudge and Rufus Scrimgeour were Ministers.

Hogwarts is doing better than ever and no one at all suspects the dark secret that hides beneath the school.
