Windows 7 and The Sims 3

Hello everybody! I just wanted to ask if anyone has gotten the new Windows 7, and if so:
1) How is it in general?
2) How does The Sims 3 run on it?

I'm supposed to be getting a computer soon. I already have TS3 waiting for the new computer (can't play it on my old one ). Thanks!

according to hp if you get the free virtual xp that you download from windows anygames that work in xp will work in it

Hi Tigers! Thanks for responding! I have a few questions to ask about your reply:
1.) By "hp" do you mean the computer company Hewlett Packard, or do you mean something else and I'm just too dumb to figure it out!? LOL
2.) I assume that "xp" refers to the old "Windows XP" (which I have currently). But what is the "free virtual xp that you donwload from windows anygames"? I don't think I've heard of this!

I would think that Windows 7 would be better than Vista for running TS3, or at least about the same, but you never know with MIcrosoft! LOL

I have been running Sims 3 on Vista with no problems at all, that is the OS that is was designed to run on (and all except the base game in TS2 is also compatible with Vista but the first patch addresses that issue and the patch may have even been incorporated into the newer multipack releases). I have recently installed Windoes 7 64 bit and although I only have a couple of hours game play under my belt everything seems to be working just fine. Of course it will get it's REAL workout on the new OS once World Adventures is released

All the Windows variants have compatibility mode but those above Home Premium go one further and have an XP virtual machine which may well allow the original Sims to run under Windows 7, it's not necessary for Sims 3 though.

yes it is hewlett packard the maker of my last 2 computers i love there online help after you buy their computers even if you are not under warranty they help you the best they can my next computer if i get one will also be from them they own compaq also so compaq is covered in the help i have 2 compaq computers they have helped me alot

Oh, good, Tigers! I thought that is what you ment, but I could have been missing something --- HP could have stood for some highly technological jargon! When I first read it, I thought you were talking about Harry Potter! LOL

Thanks Hortie! Yeah, many people have had no problem with the Sims and Vista... perhaps those that did didn't have the patch for the TS2 base game? I think a lot of problems had to do with getting used to a different OS. But you never know! Mac people rarely complain about their computers (the biggest complaint is usually having to wait for the Mac version to come out); and Microsoft is known for its...um..."quirks"! LOL

Also I think you are right about the real test comming with the TS3 EPs like Word Aventures! You will have to update us! I have pre-ordered WA, but I will probably wait a few weeks and just play the base game to get used to it before I install and play WA! I can't wait... the computer should be ready this week! (***Pug Love says a prayer that is comes before Friday!***)

Yes, anyone running just the base game in TS2 needs the patch but once you install any of the expansions that rather becomes null and void as the expansion updates the game and sorts everything out anyway

But back to TS3 and your pending computer arrival I hope it arrives soon, Christmas has arrived early, yay, great news I will have someone to exchange notes with as I think only you and I will have '7' here (or if anyone else has it they are keeping very quiet about it, lol). If you are coming up from XP them 7 will feel very new and shiny (although anyone using Vista will be instantly familiar) and XP will soon feel very dated by comparison.

I tend to run fairly recent versions of everything and I am not experiencing any problems at all other than the fact that the Canon RAW codec won't generate thumbnails in explorer for .CR2 images even though the image will render correctly once clicked Canon, in their wisdom, decided NOT to support 64 bit for the codec in Vista and that has a knock on effect in 7. They need to wake up and smell the roses however as 64 bit is the here and now

Whilst waiting for them to get their finger out I am currently using Picasa which is optimised for all RAW files as they emerge. It's a niggle for me for sure given that almost everything I do revolves around RAW image files but its not insurmountable.

Looking forward to your opinions on the new OS. Don't forget that 'search' is very good now. If you can't find something you want on your computer don't waste loads of time looking for it just put its name into the search box and it will pop up on your screen. That goes for programmes, cmd line utilities, emails, your music.....pretty much anything really.

i think the operating system i had the least amount of troubles with was windows 95 and the most was vista second least was xp i dont have 7 yet

Hello again, Hortie! Yeah, that is true that EPs ususally act as a patch for existing games, but even with TS2 it was often better to go ahead and patch the game anyway and then install your EPs. At least that was the consensus on the old TS2 section of the TS1 BBS! People who are more technical than me (like Cwykes) would advise people of this. Perhaps is isn't necessary with TS3?!?

Well, it arrived yesterday! I made a family of 8! LOL I was too busy poking around in CAS and CASt to even play the actual game! But I had a blast last night!

Boy, it sounds like Canon needs to get with the program!
You are more tech savvy than I am, so please be patient with me! (I hope I don't bother you too much with my technological naivité.)
Your are right-- Windows 7 does feel very "shiney" compared to Windows XP! <== see, I even had to wear shades! LOL

And an extra thanks for your tip on the "Search..." with Windows 7! That is very good to know!
