I never said I wouldn't use a gun, I said Berski wouldn't tongue.gif But yeah, even if he would, I'd find it weird (and probably wouldn't either). I noticed that I kinda avoid the guns and mechanical whatzits and such. Got some questions while I'm thinking about it, and couldn't find the answers in the wikis or on Google:

1. Is there a way to repair equipment myself, or am I limited to having someone else do it?

2. When I find cool loot, should I save it for auctioning, like I sometimes save loot for the FM in MapleStory? What about produced items like leather or ores and bars, are those worth selling in the auction for some extra gold? Mortag is getting pretty good with leathering, and Njokki learned skinning for the income, but ultimately will focus on mining and smithing like a proper dwarf; it occurred to me that selling raw and base goods to other players is probably lucrative.

3. When can I find/wear/make shoulder armour? I tried looking up info about pauldrons, but could only find names and stats, but nothing really about which level I can start using them. I don't want nekkid shoulders laugh.gif

4. Is there a way to divvy items in my inventory, like only sell a few items in a stack instead of the entire stack?

1. You repair equipment by going to a armor or weapons vendor, click on them to bring up their Buy panel and click on the little silver anvil at the bottom. When you get a full version and are in the guild there will be a gold anvil too and the guild will pay for repairs if you click the gold one.

2. Auctioning is complicated. I would recommend doing a bit of online reading on the topic. There are LOTS of sites with WoW information. I recommend wow.com in particular. In general, grey names items should be sold to vendors, white and other colors should be auctioned. The tricky part is how much to charge in the AH. That's where the reading comes in handy.
It is very smart to focus on gather professions only early on. You may want to focus on mining and skinning as it pays the best. Herbs sell well too.

3. You'll get access to a lot more armor at level 10 then again at 20. Shoulders and head gear are the last you get access to. Again, some online reading about your class is good here. The site Ten Ton Hammer has some very good class guides that I would recommend to you.

4. Yes. Can't remember right this second without being there, but its either a right or left click on the item which will bring up a little thing that lets you choose how many to remove from a stack.

I am off today and I will try to get on your server with you -will just roll a level 1 something and come chat with you. About what time today do you think you might be on? I am Eastern time.

So far I just have Berski, who's making his way to Orgrimmar because he refuses to use a gun, and simply must learn to use a bow instead. Gonna check if he can learn to use a two-handed axe there too since I've learned he can't use a shield. Lordy do I dig the Taurens, they're SO right up my alley cool.gif He's only level 8 however, so we'll see how far he gets....

I also got the urge to make a dwarf named Njokki this morning (yes, it's pronounced "Gnocchi" laugh.gif), so he may be running around instead. Tried an undead warlock last night, but that lasted about five minutes...it'll probably take time for me to get the hang of WoW magic, having been spoiled by MapleStory and Oblivion's instant casting unsure.gif And, after this weekend, I'll revert to those too, so expect some withdrawal whinging from me laugh.gif

By the by, I noticed that Scryers is an RPG server -- how strict is that? Because I pretty much roleplay automatically anyway. My playing mantra is WWMCD -- "what would my character do" happy.gif

Are Berski and Njokki on Scyers or Norgannon? Give us a list of your toons, their race, and their server, please. That way we can friend them all.

I realized I missed your question about moving characters to different servers - you can but it is expensive. At lower levels, its not worth it since you can make and level them so quickly. I would not move a character unless it was level 60 or better and it would have to be for a really good reason.

Thanks for the answers -- I'd looked into smithing hoping it'd let me repair my own stuff, but it didn't of course, and I wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something. Bummer, but at least there's a lot of reason to head back to town often.

I'm thinking it'll probably be something like 2-3ish your time when I'm back in there smile.gif

[edit]They're both on Scryers -- Berski is in Thunder (Plains?), the big Tauren town, and Njokki is way east of Iron Forge because I got my east/west mixed up again wacko.gif lol Berski's Tauren, Njokki's Dwarven, and Mortag is an Orc on Norgannon.

Actually, there will be ways to enhance your armor as you get up in levels in both armor and leatherworking.

Ok - how about meeting me on Scyers with Njokki between 2 to 3ish EST today? I'll plan to be there and will have him added to all of my alts friends list. I can take you on tour of the area and get you back to IF in one piece.

Hey Sascha - got your note in game and added you to all my friend's lists too. See ya there!

Okay, totally a TMMD/LOL moment: I listen to StreamingSoundtracks.com while playing, and about the time we were doing a victory dance (and Kira was showing me lots more dances laugh.gif ), someone's request for the 007 Caviar Factory music comes on. Talk about perfect go-go music! laugh.gif

Hi Drew. smile.gif I added you last night while I was playing for a little bit. smile.gif I hope to see you soon. Hope you had fun playing. I find it very relaxing when I do.

What level did you get Njokki smile.gif to?

That soundtrack place looks really neat. Thanks for those links.

Hope to see you soon.

I think he's level 9 right now, but last night I played my Tauren hunter for a while, and I think he's around 16 after (finally) getting a bow. Eventually I'd like to take him over to the Easter Kingdoms too for the fishing challenges, and head north from there, but that'll probably be after I can buy the game.

I'm glad I found that radio channel too -- hearing PotC music really adds something to dungeon diving laugh.gif

Drewbster,
To respond to your auctioning question, I always sell leather, ores, etc at the auction house. If you take a look at how much people are trying to sell them, you will see that you can make quite a bit of gold. Unless you need them for professions, I would say it's worth it to keep them and sell them at the AH.

Also, to divvy items, "Shift" click the item and a little box will pop up at the item asking how much you want to split up. smile.gif

Awesome, will keep that in mind happy.gif I gave herbalism/alchemy a shot, but wasn't making as much with it as I did with skinning and leather working, and since I can't do auctions on the trial account, I'll wait until I have a real account to try it again. It was somewhat useful, but nowhere near as lucrative right off the bat.

Last night I had the BEST gaming experience that I've had in a while. I was checking out one of the ships off of Dark Shore when to my surprise, they set sail! I waited to see what would happen next, and learned about the ferring out of Auberdine -- I just hadda run up on the aft deck and enjoy the ocean view as they sailed along their route a few times biggrin.gif I've wanted to go sailing on an older ship like that for the longest time, and thanks to WoW, I finally got a taste of what it'd be like.

Enchanting pays well in the long run, but costs alot to level up to where it starts paying well. It is best to have gathering professions only for a while. Skinning and minding tend to pay the best, but herbs can be quite good too.

Doh! I forgot to mention the ships at Auberdine! Sorry about that. The one on the right goes to Darnassus, left to Stormwind, and straight to Exodar. The ships at Stormwind go to Auberdine and Northrend - though I would not recommend trying Northrend. Everything there is level 70+. I'm not sure if you can go there or to Exodar on the trial anyway. You could not when I did the trial. There is also a tram from Ironforge to Stormwind. Its in Tinker Town in IF and Dwarven section in SW. If you walk from IF to Menethil Harbor, there is a boat that goes to Theramore and another to Northrend. If you walk from Auberdine to The Barrens, then there is another boat at Ratchet that goes to Booty Bay - which is awesome for the pirate theme, but you need to be level 40 or so to go out into the surrounding area. You can manage the walk to Ratchet or Menethil fairly well at 20ish, though you might die once or twice. I've done it at lower levels and did not die, but then I know where all the places are that you might aggro something. The boats are VERY cool - gotta love that music on them.

If you have gotten your toon to level 20, then you can buy a mount in your racial city or nearby. Beats walking big time and you can outrun lots of things. biggrin.gif

One of the things I like best about WoW is being surprised by things! I really get into exploring at times. smile.gif It's one of the best parts of the game for me.

I've gotten killed a couple of times running into places and not knowing what was there. biggrin.gif I love that! I get lectured for it. =)

I ended up on the ship to Theramore on a whim (where does this boat go again?) during Halloween and saw this really cool sea monster thingy come out of the water. I had no idea...

Have fun Drew! smile.gif I hope you'll be playing. smile.gif I am very glad you're enjoying it.

The trial just ended.

*le sob*

'Twas fun while it lasted though! That was a really smart marketing move biggrin.gif

Earlier I took my Tauren to Booty Bay for some fishing, but couldn't find a safe beach until I got to Westfall. I'd been wondering where to find crawler meat, and boy did I find it! Those things were respawning as fast as I could kill them, and hopefully I'll remember to track down that clam recipe I saw somewhere in my travels for all the extra clam meat I picked up.

Later, Berski and his faithful spider Fluffy travelled to Elwynn Forest because I recognized it as a lower levelled place. Being Horde however, the guards weren't too receptive. But then, just as I'd made my escape, some Alliance chick got herself an "honourable" kill with a sword to my back. Hmph.

*edit* Scratch that, they'll let you use different email addies for other trial accounts. It's just for 20 levels, but at least I can still get a fix while I wait.

That'll learn ya to keep yer nasty horde self out of the Alliance areas! laugh.gif

Oh I am glad that you plan to roll a few more toons using trial accounts with other emails! I would be missing you in Azeroth.

Well! ohmy.gif If THAT'S the way the Alliance is gonna be, Fluffy and I will just walk back to Kalimdor with this yummy three-layer cake I baked. And to think, I had to swim ALL the way up the coast with ONE hand, dodging sharks and murlocs, just so the cake wouldn't get wet! If you think I'm gonna bake anything else fer ya, you got another think coming! tongue.gif

I tried walking instead -- didn't realize how much gorillas like cake, because they kept chasing me laugh.gif

I made another tauren hunter on one of the newb servers, but yeesh that place was full last night blink.gif Every time I turned around, here comes another mohawked level 5 asking for help. OH! AND! I forgot taurens start with guns instead of bows, so when I could afford it, I ran to Orgrimmar for bow training. Halfway through the Barrens, I was accosted by some Alliance renegades! Those meaniehead dookybirds ninja.gif

Finally getting the hang of magic too, made an undead warlock, but hadda quit cuz that place bums me out after a while. Well, that, and some yonk who was trying to recruit a bunch of people for a guild. Wouldn't even ask if I wanted to join, just shoved the contract popup in my face dry.gif

I tell ya wut, lotta wow playerz get lost somewhere between teh "N" and teh "O" rolleyes.gif Blame it on lag....

After level 10, I've been picking up lots of fancy gear with green titles -- what's worth holding onto? I'm saving stuff like blueprints/recipes and white items like sharp claws for when I can do auctions, but a couple characters run out of slots in the bank, and can't afford more than an extra bag (maybe two if I work at it enough).

Right now I'm saving the things that add to actual damage, and not saving things that only add a couple points to agility or stamina (and since something's gotta go, those items are the most common, and I figure more easily found again). It's mostly weapons, but there's a couple pieces of armour that have seemed significant as well.

As to gear and what to keep.... the answers are complicated. Check the House Silverhart MySpace page - I did a blog there with some details on what armor and weapons are needed for each class.

Here is a simple, very basic guide.

In essence - you want to focus on building your stats like Stamina, Agility, etc. Which ones depend on your class. If I remember correctly, you like melee types - hunters, warriors - and druids. Armor class and hit really do not matter all that much at lower levels. For serious details, google your class guides on the internet, Ten Ton Hammer has very good ones. http://www.tentonhammer.com/taxonomy/term/41/guides

Stamina is the #1 stat for nearly everyone - its all about being able to survive and that gives you hit points
Agility - good for hunters and feral (cat or bear) druids, effects how often you hit things and how often they miss you
Strength - effects how hard you hit. Best for warriors, but not bad for hunters.
Intellect - effects size of mana pool. Important for druids, #1 for any caster type, semi important for hunters
Spirit - effect how fast you regenerate mana - only important for casters, epecially priests. Not very important for druids.
Hit chance - everyone can use this, effects how often you hit
Crit chance - effects how often you get critical hits, which provide extra damage
Spell power - important for all caster types

The only place that damage matters at all is on wands (for casters) and melee weapons for warriors and rogues - but that is still second to boosting stats.

What to sell and what to keep? At lower levels - sell everything on the AH which is not a gray titled item - stacks of 20 are usually best. Be sure to sell it for more than it vendors for - compare to other items on the AH first to see what the going rate for the item is. (Cooking recipes are HOT at the moment, so sell those if you have ones you do not need.) Compare vendor rate to AH selling price carefully - you have to pay at deposit on the AH so you have to make sure it is worth it to sell the item there; vendor it if not. If you have an enchanter, disenchant nearly* everything you can - disenchanted materials nearly always sell for more than the items themselves plus there is no deposit to sell them. http://www.wow.com/2009/04/22/wow-rookie-a...n-house-basics/

*Important note - some items level 19, 29, 39 or close to that are 'twink' items and sell for a lot more so check the AH carefully for any item near those levels, especially if they have lots of stamina. http://www.freewarcraftguides.com/wow_batt...twink_guide.php

Best guide for nearly everything for new players - http://www.wow.com/category/wow-rookie/

BTW - did you start new toons? What are their names and where are they?
