Hey all -

Black Library today announced that the first product for 'Black Library Deutschland' has been completed - a chapbook for GD Germany later this year!

user posted image

That's 'To Honour the Dead' by Gav Thorpe. The subtitle is 'The scars of Calth'.

I wonder what that could be about, eh? wink.gif

Yes, that's a Titan Legion emblem on the cover.

As if you are 1) going to GD Germany, and 2) able to read a German language story. rolleyes.gif So why do you care if it's limited or not?

ALL Games Day books have ALWAYS been limited. BL is actually one of the few branches of GW that sell the spares AFTER the event, too...

And yes, of course this story will eventually be available in other languages/formats. Why would BL limit itself to only publishing a story in one fairly niche format, once? tongue.gif

BL are now doing in-house translation. The German editor is a perfectly fluent native German, who speaks perfect English (and Norwegian!) and is a lovely chap.

There's not going to be any more dodgy half-done translation from licenced publishers.

But why in-house translation? I assumed Thorpe wrote the thing in English?

Yes... and we have a permanent member of staff who is responsible for the translation of new English books into German. I edited the story with Gav in English, and then it went for translation into German for the GD Germany chapbook.

I'm not quite sure why THIS is proving to be the bit everyone is focusing on... blink.gif

Huh... we put out eBooks and people complain they don't have an eReader... we put out hardbacks and people complain about shipping costs or limited availability... we can't win! biggrin.gif

No, I'm very much a paper man too. I don't mind reading something on an eReader, I just don't own one. I won't cry and swear and smash a plate if a book doesn't IMMEDIATELY come out in my chosen format though, which seems to be what 90% of the Facebook fans do... laugh.gif

Someone actually wrote a letter to BL demanding the immediate release of Kryptos as a paperback. It's like, 5,000 words long... what kind of paperback were they expecting...?!

I'm reliably informed that you can get software to read eBooks on your computer or laptop. I just don't know what it is.

Why isn't "The Horus Heresy" in German, shame on you BL!! wink.gif

Is it a novella (Aurelian etc.) or just a limited book, if that makes sense?

Looks like Calth is going to get a lot of treatment then with 'Betrayer' as well, and judging by ADB updates, its going to be epic and crammed full of treacherous goodness!! smile.gif

Any idea of when das book will be available in English? Is it the next limited edition-run? Fingers-crossed I can get the gold one, unlike Aurelian (Silver) sad.gif . Damn those pesky profiteers who flog it on ebay angry.gif

I got Kryptos, found a free epub reader (Adobe Digital Editions), was pretty easy. Plus, an enjoyable story. smile.gif

Is it a novella (Aurelian etc.) or just a limited book, if that makes sense?

It's a chapbook, which usually contains around 10,000 words - the length of one short story, or two very short stories. (i.e. 'Dark King' & 'Lightning Tower', 'Bloodline' etc)

It's not a novel or novella, which I think is the reason why people think they're missing out on something magical... it's just our first ever short story to be printed FIRST in German, before English.

Would it be reasonable to assume something similar for GD France? I can't say...

Also, you'll notice that 'The Horus Heresy' is now marked with TM. That's why it's in English - it's now a trademarked brand.

Also, DER GROSSEBRUDERKRIEG didn't exactly roll off the tongue ("The Big Brother War", for those who don't speak German!)

Sounds much better in the German than in the direct English translation. biggrin.gif

Interesting you mention the TM thing for the Horus Heresy.

I was told that there was some problem with Forge World using the Horus Heresy brand for a 'game' as the license was with someone else (Horus Heresy CCG?).

I am just guessing that these rumours about Forge World Horus Heresy books and producing models whilst insisting they are not Horus Heresy when we all know they are, are a sign that GW now has ownership of the Horus Heresy license again?

Could be complete rubbish but I imagine there is a grain of truth there somewhere tongue.gif
