Le Yo. been lurking on here for a little bit and doing my research, figured if i'm gonna start a pre-heresy project i might as well actually sign up and get opinions wink.gif

Right, just as a quick thing since i'm new, i've been into 40K for many many years, since right before the switch to 3rd ed. i believe. stayed pretty consistent with that for a while, mostly Iron Warriors, but a bit of everything. took a break of, uh, 3 years, to fiddle about with making costumes instead.

Fancied coming back to it, so been upgrading the work on my Iron Warriors and planning out a small Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons force, so yeah, bam, have some Space Egyptians.

Scarab Occult Terminators, waiting for Chapterhouse pads in the post and for some more purity seals/ribbons added, and for the Scibor egyptian tower shields to be added to the two staff wielders after painting

First few Tactical marines, mix of FW parts, old 2nd Ed. marine parts since i way prefered the look of the backpacks. also using Bolters and Combat Knives.

Devastators, General Bulkier armour look. still need to make sergeant, waiting for parts for that.

Nice bit of Kitbashing.
I find the Terminators with twin power-Khopesh's appealing.
Especially the one with them splayed, as the pose makes me think he's roaring a challenge before jumping into battle.

Might I ask where you got the loincloths from?
I can't tell if you've bought them or made them yourself.

biggrin.gif thanks.

Loincloths (that word always makes me think of Conan...) are from Anvil Industries on ebay. i believe they have a site too, but not sure. resin's a little thin so they're fragile, but they're pretty good, and cheap. thin resin makes them easy to cut to fit armour too, so that's helpful.

While cloth is one of the few things i can sculpt reasonably, i had the cash spare so to save time/effort i picked up a bunch of his capes, loincloths, leather strap loincloth bits, and helmet plumes, back when i was aiming moreso at a WE pre-heresy army. still planning on that, just, later. painting that much white irritated me, and space egyptians are cooler.

Edit for Pics! 3 more Tacticals, Left arm replaced on devastator, way prefer it now

Fun to do a project like this again, been doing costumey stuff for way too long. made a full size Laspistol a little while ago, got me back in a 40K mood. or 30K, as the case may be.

Forgot to mention this, basically what i have in progress for this initial phase, are 20 tacticals, 5 devastators, 5 Termies, 2 Rhinos, and a Contemptor Dread.
Picked up a Magnus too, but he's gonna take a bit of work, parts of the model i like, parts i don't, but he's the only one i know of in the right scale, where they haven't suddenly decided the primarches were approx. 20 feet tall. dudes should not have to lie down to hear their marines talking.

Planning on adding a Predator, Land Raider and Scout Squad in future, plus some form of actual commander, but for now i'm poor, cos bloody hell this stuff's expensive. tongue.gif

Made up the Magnus mini, disliked the legs enough to remake them with termie legs and green stuff. redid his axe-dealio too. Made him a bit taller, so he's actually more or less in proportion, and the right size IMHO.
Me green stuff skills aren't amazing, this is the first time i've tried anything more complicated than just vaguely making capes and simple detailing. GS still needs a bit of sanding down in places, but i don't think it's too bad for a first pop.

I need to make an embargo on you from pelting me with IM's on this sort of stuff... Now I'm all to aware of the mass of SW and other minis sitting in my closet screaming over their neglect.

Magnus looks AWESOME! It's good to personalise, and if you're not happy with the cast then get greenstuffing!

Lovely work.

Okay, Updates! biggrin.gif

Got parts from Forge World and Chapterhouse through, Working on the dread, still waiting on some arms from Puppetswar to nab the shoulders from. been painting the interiors of the rhinos before i put those together.
Did let me finish the Termies and the Tac Squad heavy weapons though biggrin.gif and started working on the Sorceror/Librarian commander. Need another chaos sprues Plasma gun though, gonna raid a mate's bits box in a couple of days.
Waiting on the new Kromlech stygian pads (ordered 10 of the Scarab pads!, sods released them right after i put my order in laugh.gif ) before i put together the squad sergeants.

Oh, and i did a test model! photography's Scheiss, and the paintjob wasn't the best i've done since i basically painted the red 3 times in 3 different ways before i settled on one i liked xD

user posted image

Also, picked up some Decal paper, Acrylic gloss spray varnish, and Micro-Set, so i should be prepped to be doing the decals too. TS one would be the toughest. dry.gif got the white sheet, easier for me to paint the red back in around the design i reckon.

You should use clear decal paper and create a design with colour.

Not tried printing them yet but they should work.

TS symbol is basically solid white, and since printers don't have White ink, only option is white paper or painting the shoulderpad white then painting ALL the red back in around the decal xD which tbh is just too much bloody effort. least this way i'm only cleaning up around it.

I like your conversions a lot, some very good parts. As I built mine before the Blood Angels, Grey Knights, and most of the Forge World heresy-era stuff my own look fairly dated by comparison! The loincloths work very well.

Thanks! biggrin.gif Magos Explorator, i Loved your TS, took a load of inspiration for these from them tongue.gif

Gotta say, the FW MK1 Rhino is a gorgeous kit... the Only thing i haven't liked about it is the front panel with the recessed parts, but i swapped a Chapterhouse front in for that. also painted the interior and left the back hatch openable, so that's summat i've never done before laugh.gif

Edit : Incidentally, little bit of advice, the box bit from the IG tank accessory sprues fits perfectly over the bolter on the wall of the rhino once you've cut down the sights and grip, million times easier than shaving the whole bloody thing off, if you're of the mindset to have No post-heresy parts like that.

Started painting the first of the Terminators too, so, hopefully pics of him tomorrow biggrin.gif

I do plan on starting to take better pics of all this, in decent outside light soon, but we're getting the tail end of hurricane bawbag methinks (best name for a hurricane ever) and at this point it's not just dark and rainy, but given my bin ran down the street, i can't see minis faring too well.

Alllrighty, terminator's done after a very very very very long two nights filled with tea and listening to everything Aesthetic Perfection's done 10x over.

Slightly rushed the pic, so the little blue ribbon bit on the loincloth isn't actually shiny IRL, that's just the wash drying tongue.gif
