I've lost momentum (what little I had) on my PH SM army, and I hadn't as yet really started gaming, something I've been trying to get into for ages.

I realised that it might be a good idea to try a different army, that I could game with whilst being quick and nasty.

I probably thought for about 30 seconds (if that) before returning to an idea I'd been ruminating on. Dark Exodite Eldar!

So I knocked up a simple 500pt list from the DE codex and built my new army to it in about 2 weeks.

Here it is:

Archon.
user posted image

Wearing Ghost Armour, armed with Splinter pistol, Djinn blade and Haywire grenades; 95pts.

Kabalite Warriors (1x Sybarite, 8 warriors)
user posted image

One with Shredder; Sybarite armed with Splinter pistol and Agoniser. Transport: Raider. 196pts.
It's 9 so the Archon can accompany them on the Raider.

Wyches (1x Hekatrix, 9 wyches)

user posted image

One Wych with Hydra Gauntlets; Hekatrix armed with splinter pistol and Venom Blade; Plus Raider, 205pts.

Raider 1.

The riders on the sides are magnetised for easy removal. The main weapon is also magnetised for easy switching.

Raider 2.

user posted image

This too has magnetised weapon.

In the army list both raiders have Splinter racks, and one will have a Night Shield whilst the other has a Flickerfield. And I think one will swap its Dark Lance for a Disintegrator.

It's only kitbashed together and needs greenstuffing then painting, and have plenty more bits to build at least another archon, as well as other units.
I say this as I would like your opinions and thoughts.

Good stuff! I like the mix of parts in particular...

Also, good to see more Xenos love of late - I am hoping for a real resurgence in non-SM PH armies in 2011.

I like the Archon, neat conversion. smile.gif

Shroud: I have one, hopefully painting will resume when my stuff from the UK's arrived!

Not really done much with these guys yet, besides collecting bits.
I've to go out and buy my gifts to family, then had to go out and buy gifts from my parents to my family (at least I know what I'm getting off them, except my Dad put my nephew's name on it! That was a close call.), and I've had a cold for the last 2 weeks.

But here's the direction I believe I can take this army in the future.

New archon with Blaster, I got hold of a Fire Dragon exarch's Fusion blaster. And it does resemble a blaster.

Lhamaeans counts as, 2-3 of them converted out of WHFB Empire Wizard bodies. If I do them right they might be able to double for Warlocks.

Succubus or another Archon. Got hold of the AoW Dark Elf Queen. Gonna see what I can do.

Incubi. I have the Lions of Chrace, both the 10-man plastics and the metals (about 7 of them), and I think I can convert them to Incubi. But I'll probably only do 5 first.

Mandrakes. I have 5 of the old Eldar Ghost Warriors, and I think that at least 3 could work as count-as Mandrakes.

Kabalite Trueborn. I've got some Dark Elf Corsair cloaks and I think I can kitbash them with Kabalite Warrior bits to make Trueborn. And I think I've worked out an easy way to give them Carbines.

Kabalite Warriors. I've got enough bits to expand on the 9 I already have.

Raider. I've picked up another old one, and the plastic High Elf chariot, with a few more bits I can build another one of my hybrid ones.

Out of the current Dark Eldar kits I have some Hellions, Reavers and a Ravager to build.

Exodite Knights. I have some stuff to kitbash these guys, probably as count-as jetbikes.

Hopefully I can take what I've made, out gaming and that will spur me on to do more!

It's been a while, but not without good, but private reasons.

Anyway, here's a quick update.

Painting In Progress first.

Archon and Kabalite Warriors:
I have decided to paint this faction of my force in a Dark Green colour. I think it fits with the Lizard Motif I have for them.

I've also carried this colour over to the Raider I'm using for them.

user posted image

Wych Cult:
With these I've chsen to do a Dark Red, with brown tones. I think it fits with the Aegean/pacific islander theme, especially the Big Cat Motif.

user posted image

user posted image

As with the Kabalite Warriors I have painted their Raider a similar colour.

user posted image

Here's an extra, my counts-as Mandrakes.

user posted image

They're a simple conversion of OOP RT-era Eldar War Drones / Ghost Warriors (Executioner class).

With these I'll next be painting the metals, contrasting colours, and eventually the flesh.

Pacific, one preview of what's next coming up!
Armorum Ferrum, this also shows the kind of theme I'll be carrying over to my Exodite Knights.

As you can probably tell he's a Beastmaster I've kitbashed together.
But this next pic should illustrate one of the reasons I've chosen a big cat motif for him and my Wyches.

P.S. Here's a bit of illustrative Background:
QUOTE
Inquisitional report.
Subject: The Privateers Of The Umbra Nebula.

Extract of mythology and legend surrounding the inhabitants.

The Umbra Nebula, is a its name infers a large body of proto-stellar gases and dust through which little light passes.
Within its shadowy confines is believed to be whole star systems, though not as many as would be expected, well hidden from those outside.
It is said that some of the stars that sit above Commorragh and its dominions were born within this nebula, others that it is the shadow of the Dark Eldar themselves that cast the nebula's stars into gloom.

It sits in a sector fraught with danger, both in real space and the Warp, that would be hard to navigate at the best of times, yet not for the nebula's inhabitants. Is it any wonder then, that it is the heart of a kingdom of pirates and slavers.

Those few who have seen its interior, and lived free long enough to tell, claim that there are worlds verdant within its depths, Exodite worlds of oceans and tropical islands. But more, there is a structure within, one made by ancient Eldar hands from which the fleets of pirates launch their Raids on the Imperium and its enemies.
This construct, too has its legends, one being that it was once a Craftworld caught on gravitic tides that grounded within the dark confines of the nebula and over time grew into a place where Eldar in all their forms congregate.

If you come up against a raiding force of these pirates, you can never be certain of what you will face. You could end up fighting anything from Dark Eldar Kabals and Wych Cults, through Exodite Knights on their predatory steeds, and even Aspect Warriors and Wraithbone constructs, though not usually in one, small raiding party.

Lovin the beastmaster, reminds me of the wood elf beastmasters of old (red catalogue era) a feral look mixed with high tech is so cool. I can imagine the cold one knight boxed set will see a lot of action in your exodite knights(always loved these fellas)

Here's some fluff I've written on the Ghost Warriors:

QUOTE
Ghost Warriors are Wraithbone constructs that possibly date from the old Eldar empire. They are constructed from a substance called Stelthene that hides them from sensors, and makes them nearly imperceptible to the naked eye, that is until they strike out of the shadows!
This stealth capability makes them a much sought after addition to any Umbran force.

Like all members of any Umbran force, they carry the unique technology that allows them to seemingly capture the life force of a dying opponent and use it to strengthen themselves.

There is speculation to a secondary effect of this technology in that some observations suggest that native plant life regenerates at a much quicker pace in the aftermath of battle.

You'll probably ntice my attempt to explain their version of the Power Through Pain rule. Well they are Exodites.

Really nice, I like how you've mixed in some parts from other models to make them a bit different but managed to keep the same feel to all the models.

If I was going to pick something to criticize though I might suggest that you reprint the marine helmet on the archons base in a contrasting colour and possibly reprint the scale mail as a silver or bronze but that's just personal taste.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done with the raider.

Thanks for the encouraging comments. Hopefully they'll help me keep up with the rate of painting. Afterall, I must be a strong contender for the Forum's Slowest Painter award!

Magos, I associate decadence with the Dark Eldar, so gold was a no-brainer for me and it gave me chance to do an Aposematic (Warning/Wasp colouration) scheme with the DE limb armour.

Shroud, otherworldly is an interesting adjective! I hope I can keep to that style.

Fingol23, I did that helmet to match the one on one of my Mandrake/Spirit Warrior bases. And I painted that one dark green part because of Promethian Sun (which I haven't read), and part out of laziness.
The laziness is also true for the one on the Archon's base.

Painting the dragon-scale skirt gold was a consideration, but I wanted to keep gold only as a major highlight against my three main colours (Dark Green, Dark Red, Dark Granite), and because I was oce again a bit lazy to go that far.

These guys are supposed to be quick and dirty, hence the approach and paint scheme! wink.gif

I've finished my Wyches!
They took so long because of a couple of problems, mainly two of my washes seperated and left this dust-like crud in the recesses, so I practically had to repaint those bits, that and I just have a problem painting eyes.

So here's the result: Wych Cult of The Liger's Claw!

What do you think?

Just need to finish the Wyches Raider, and I easily have a 500pt force.
