I brought this question up on BL forums before it went down.. Apparently it may just be a special weapon kitting on the warlord titan.

in the old adeptus titanicus days a night gaunt was a warlord titan with no carapace weapons a close combat arm and a ranged heavy arm ie multilauncher (not superheavy ie defence laser) it boasted increased speed and normal shields they were used for recon at the begining of the heresy when the lighter titans wernt available in the mid to late heresy they were not widely used due to the increased demand for other classes of warlords

Some old Adeptus Titanicus background:
QUOTE
The Warlord was designed as a main Battle Titan, but such are the exigencies of war that it is pressed into service in medium support and even scouting roles, where Reaver and Warhound Class Titans are not available. Stopgap measures are often necessary, and such were the origins of the Nightgaunt and Eclipse variants. They were only ever used in the early years of the Heresy, when both sides had suffered considerable losses of equipment and disruption to their supply lines. They were a product of the occasions when the Titan Orders were effectively cut off, and their Grand Masters had to do as best they could with what equipment they bad to hand and what they could salvage.

I had a look to see if I cvoud find a pic of the old datacards, but no luck. Essentially, they were variants for the original version of Adeptus Titanicus, before the Reaver and Warhound were available. As renlegunvrs says, the Nightgaunt had no carapace weapons and increased speed, and I think the example pictured had a Meltacannon and CCW, although other configurations were possible. Other types were the Eclipse, which had had only one carapace weapon and two arm weapons, and the Deathbringer and Nemesis. The Deathbringer was a 'standard' Warlord titan, and the Nemesis was the heavy Warlord with equipped with powerful, usually long ranged weapons.

Of course, how well this fits with the False Gods mention, i.e.
QUOTE
fast, mid-range Reavers, snarling Warhounds and the mighty Warlords - as well as some newer Night Gaunt-class Titans

is dubious - the quote seems to imply it is a seperate class altogether, although this is open to interpretation. Still, always nice for an oldtimer like myself to see some of the old background being dug up, even if only for a passing reference. Its probably safe to assume it is a form of light Warlord titan, given the old background and the lack of mention of other forms of titan elsewhere in the background apart form the traditional four.
