Loken -

That's an excellent reference for painting (and perhaps conversion) purposes. Great start.

I've always liked this look. Maybe it's my fondness for the Romans.

These were painted in the following fashion.
Spray undercoated black, then a basecoats of Astronomican Gray for the white (blacklining all the way), Chaos Black for the Trim on the Shoulder Pads, Scab Red for the Red, Burnished Gold and Boltgun Metal as appropriate.

All of the Black parts were then washed with Black Wash, Gold with Chestnut Wash, Boltgun metal with Armour wash.

A mix of Astronomican Gray and Skull White (I just mixed this by eye) was then painted over the Astro Gray, Crimson gore over the Scab Red, and touched up parts of the metal with Burnished gold and Mithral Silver.

The parchment was basecoated Vomit brown, Washed with Flesh wash, a coat of bleached bone leaving the darker colours in the recesses, with a final coat of Skull white. Writing is just black ink.

I highlighted the White areas with a light coat of Skull White, Red areas with Blood Red, Gold with Shining Gold, Black with a light dash of Adeptus Battlegrey.
For the eyes think eldar gemstone technique.
Once the Eyes and Wax seals were dry they were given a coat of Gloss varnish.
Transfers were then applied.

Those are gorgeous, Yvraith. I especially love the red plume on the captain and the generally Roman look!

Every miniature here is drop dead gorgeous. Would be proud to have them on my tabletop. These are again the sorts of clear, crisp paintjobs that will be most useful for the VCP.

All I'd ask of you guys, if you have the time, would be to perhaps share a few lines about how you built them and what colors you used. That would go a long way toward helping someone attempt the look.

@Mithras
I edited my post to include how I painted them, is that what you were after?

The modeling bit for the Captain is rather complicated, to be honest I sort of fluked it on the first go. But I could provide a parts list if you want.

Great topic for inspiration! biggrin.gif
I'm starting a Luna Wolves army myself and this definately helps! Finding out which pieces of armour were worn by the Luna Wolves before the Heresy can be quite a problem HAHAHA!

Did the Luna Wolves wear MKIV armour right before they got renamed to The Sons of Horus?
If so then buying the Red Scorpions upgrade set from FW would be the best solution to jumpstart a beginning Luna Wolves army right?

I also have a lot of Chaos bits left, I believe a lot of helmets can easily be converted into the ones worn during the Luna Wolves era (not to mention some 'beakies')
