My attitude towards PH power armour is it should be in the character or pattern of a Mark.
For example, the Mk 2 helmet should the cyclopean eye-slit.

It's why we used a particular Khorne Berzerker head for Mk 2, or why we used Assault Marine chests to make mk 4's. They had the right characteristics to make those marks of armour, with a degree of conversion work.

But if PH armies become too popular and I feel like doing something different, I always have the option of creating an Inner Galactic Wars army, as that is a part of the Great Crusade barely touched upon.

And if there's room for IGW themed armies, what about other era's within the Great Crusade?

setanta41, that was a really nice post, and quite thought provoking. I should re-iterate; the last thing I ever wanted to do was rain on anyone's enjoyment of Pre-Heresy, Warhammer of whatever. I felt equally excited when first discovering Pre-Heresy, and why not? It's a wonderfully evocative environment, with the mix of legend and epic backgrounds making it seem far more grand and glorious than the more contemporary imaginings of the 'current' timeline. And unless I was some kind of deviant, I wouldn't still be posting here if there wasn't still some enjoyment in talking about it all.

So I'd just like to re-iterate: nothing at all to do intrinsically with the game, the models or the background. Rather, just doing too much of something, and not being able to play the game in a way that is enjoyable. But that is ultimately a subjective thing, and perhaps some of the people I have played over recent months have thought me to be wasting my time in bothering to glue arms, legs and a torso on my marines. wink.gif

Anyway, I'll shut up now! Forgeworld books incoming.. biggrin.gif

@Pacific.....well your post was very thought provoking too. As are so many of your posts! And don't worry, I don't think you are raining on anyone's parade. Least of all mine....my daily job has got that completely covered!!!And I know why you post here.....because it is a idea generator. The amount of ideas and knowledge of the 30-40K universe is staggering on here. Sometimes I can't keep up with you guys! I am fairly proud that I am in the middle of Deliverance Lost and i only started the series in November!

And now that you mention that..."wasting my time in bothering to glue arms, legs and a torso on my marines."......I did notice when I went to GW store and some guys were playing they WERE missing some parts and everything was just primered! I thought that was part of the fun of playing, having a cool looking army!! Well, I guess what you enjoy and get out of the game is totally subjective!

I do tend to think FW books would be pretty cool. All there other books are awesome.

Quite apart from the actual topic being discussed, I'd just like to make one point.

Nowhere else among the wargaming-focussed internet community have I encountered such articulate, passionate and respectful fans as I find here at TGC. The willingness - and even enthusiasm - to discuss each others opinions and not simply one's own is, I think, what really puts this forum in an order of magnitude far above the likes of other GW hobby-related sites.

I bloody love you chaps! [/gushing fan-boy spiel]

Also, I kind of hope FW don't do a specific HH book for similar reasons as all those afore-mentioned, but I'm not exactly going to complain if they do!

Apparently there's a picture floating around the net of what appears to be a Horus Heresy Codex with HH models.
Consensus was that if it's real, it is an expansion.

I'm going to throw my two cents in. Late again, as usual. I have been a 40k fan since the good old Rogue Trader days and what I see missing from the experiences of younger gamers is the level of creativity that I had. Maybe the level of creativity is percieved, but I just see a lot of younger and newer gamers and hobbyists just copying what they see in White Dwarf or what is on the GW website.

To me this hobby is equally about modelling and painting as it is gaming. That being said, I really appreciate the fact tht FW makes the PH armor (not armour. MERICA!) sets because let's face it: most of us live in the real world and don't have the time to model and entire army in crusade armor. I like that the armor sets are available because I feel like it opens up more possibilities for modelling and painting because you are being provided with some basic building blocks.

The reason I think we don't need a HH ruleset is because the basic framework and building blocks for 30k gaming already exist. The regular rule set works fine, and all you need to do is write up a set of house rules that allows you to bring the madness of the great crusade/HH to the tabletop. I also have to say, I feel like some of the recent novels are missing the mystery of the earlier books. Don't get me wrong I love the series and I goblble up every tid bit of HH goodness like a greedy pig, but the last two novels just didn't do it for me. I think more of the HH should be left a mystery... I mean did we REALLY need to know why Ultramarines Sergeants have red helmets? As much as I enjoyed reading Primarchs, I wish it had been more about the great crusade than the Heresy, more about the characters than the storyline.

A HH ruleset would just take all the mystery and crazyness out of 30k gaming.

BDL are you kidding me the Red Helm was my favorite part of the whole book.
Everything else you said is spot on.
I never play so painting and modeling are everything to me both equally as important.
Usually works out on days I do not feel like painting I usually feel like modeling.

I'm surprised that so many of us TGCers are so uninterested in a possible FW HH ruleset. Not a criticism btw - I'm just surprised.

Once again, I'm still massively sceptical about this whole concept - I specifically asked the FW team about HH at the FW open day this year and was told they would not be doing rules - so I'll believe it if and when I see it.

However, the idea of FW doing a full IA-style hardback is awesome. I really like the Imperial Armour books, and would just squee to see a HH version, full of amazing artwork ...of HH Legion colour schemes! *drool*

Regarding the existing 30K fan rules, I'm impressed by the effort put into the Age of the Emperor events (SAVIOUR OF TERRA!!! FOR THE KHAN!!!) but I would love to see what craziness the FW team would come up with. Aaaand, us TGC lunatics could then build on it to make it even more insane! biggrin.gif

Ah well, mountain of salt on this rumour, but here's hoping!

Really? I thought there was a bit of a lull in quality a while ago, but I thought the last two were amazing! And I thought the red helmet idea was quite clever.

Lol. I knew you guys would jump on me for the red helmet thing. I think my problem with Know no Fear was that it felt more like a 40k novel rather than a HH book. I dont know, I guess i've been spoiled by The First Heretic and Thousand Sons. Those were fantastic books. It just seems like lately the books have been written more to advance the storyline rather than to develop the characters.

In any case, if FW did do a book i'm sure it would be amazing. I would prefer that they left most of the HH a mystery though.

I've just found the Codex: HH pics in question, and I'm thinking they're a Hoax!
It even looks like it's an April Fool's joke!

Judge for yourselves.

I do think I've seen that particular Emperor model in a third party Manufacturer's range.

Very fake. You can even see where they put that picture of the emperor model that it cuts of the "C" in the second like on line of text.

Nice looking Malcador though. Anybody know where that is from?

Haha, yes I remember seeing this some time ago. I can't remember where it came from originally though, perhaps some kind of April Fool?
