For everyone who wanted it! laugh.gif It's really interesting to see the scripts in this format, IMHO.

I've bought it, just for the sake of it!! I know people will moan about the price etc., but what they hey!

Lovely artwork again.

Oh for pity's sake, just sell some printed canvasses! The artwork is - as we have come to expect - stunning, but I'm struggling to justify purchasing a book whose creative substance I already own and have access to, albeit in an alternative medium.

[moment of fanboy weakness]Probably will get it, though. Just, y'know... because.... [/moment of fanboy weakness]

I cracked - looking forward to receiving it, and the art work is up to Neil's high standard.

It's weird how many people requested this... having worked in script writing for film and radio, I have absolutely no idea why anyone would find it interesting other than the actors and producers...

And then I remember that I paid £50 for an original 'Children of Men' script on eBay, years ago.

This is not to be confused with "the stories in prose", which it is not. Weirdly, a lot of Facebook dweebs are making fools of themselves by complaining about it.

Half of the book was already released in Shadows of Treachery...

Unless the production scripts are something completely different from the stuff we've already seen.

Dunno, feels just a bit icky to me at the moment.

I think it's a voice-actor recruitment tool for BL, because you can damn well guarantee there'll be alternative fan-made audio dramas up on the Youtubes in the following months... at least that's what I'd be tempted to do with the scripts in my hand!

I'm assuming they include SFX descriptions and directorial notes?

I've ordered it, and I am really looking forward to it. As it's volume one, it's no great leap of imagination to see there being a series of these. I guess the success, or not, of this will determine whether we get any more.

One thing that puzzled me though; is it limited edition?

PS the cover is stunning!

Malika - these aren't prose short stories, they are audio production scripts. Nothing new for the storyline, but no one outside of BL has ever seen these scripts before.

Vinnie - I love some of the fan-made audios already. There are some absolutely stunning productions, and some hilariously bad ones. Non-native English speakers writing and performing Space Marines are the best... laugh.gif

Marcoos - not limited edition, just a regular hardback which is only available from BL directly. If the demand is there we will print more, like any HH novel. People have been confused by the 'single print run', but that's what we say for ALL Black Library novels... it only gets reprinted if the demand is there from buyers.

Thanks for the info Shroud. I fell for the 'available while stocks last'; should have realised this is standard sales patter!

Regarding the story, didn't Christian suggest (at the Weekender) that the scripts differ slightly from the recorded version based on on-the-day editorial changes and production editorial cuts? I know the printed Raven's Flight (short story, not script) in Shadows of Treachery contained a few extra passages of story when compared to the audio drama. Not that I expect any great revelations from this, but it would be a nice bit of bonus material.

Yes indeed, although the changes tend to be word substitutions, or simplification of long sentences. You don't get much extra plot, based on the final version of the script being amended in the studio.

Also, don't know if anyone else noticed this yet, but when BL audio dramas are released as MP3s, you sometimes get extra Easter Egg scenes which are cut from the CD for time... wink.gif Hint hint. I can say no more.

Having not heard any of the audio dramas yet (I do plan on maybe nabbing a few for Christmas), I'm presuming all of the voice actors are British? If so, is there any plan to go with alternate accents? There are definitely Legions I could see going with various accented versions to enhance their individuality.

Yes, there are different accents in there. The one thing BL/GW will never sanction is an American Space Marine. THQ ruined the chances of that... laugh.gif

Just purely out of interest, are we ever likely to get a more even spread of ethnic groups represented as Astartes? Other than Pedro, going back to 1987 and the Battle for the Farm for instance.. biggrin.gif

'Garro: Sword of Truth' has a White Scar named Hakeem, who also makes a cameo appearance in 'Brotherhood of the Storm'. Chris Wraight has really taken the Eastern influences on board, with Asian and Oriental characterisation far beyond the usual 'space mongols' thing.

Hakeem was portrayed by Ramon Tikaram and he tried to give more ethnicity to the character.

It's interesting to note that a lot of Space Marines who have 'diverse' names often adopt a more "imperial" name. There was a Scythes character I found in the fluff whose name was Hwygir, but he was known as Culmonios.

Were it not so completely IP-breaking, I would be all for a script-to-audio contest.

BL could put out a couple of pages of script and let fans record and produce it for themselves. The best ones would win prizes and stuff.

IP breaking doesn't mean "not allowed by GW"... it means anything which causes multiple non-official truths to enter the background, which can be confusing for fans. Plus, it also applies to anything which is made without GW's involvement (third party rip-offs, unlicensed films, etc etc) which undermines their ownership of the IP.

That's how I know that this French film with Dark Angels in it will not be allowed to be released... wink.gif It's "IP breaking".

But if we had a non-Warhammer script, that could work... hmm...

Seems like for this to work you'd need a script of 40K/30K sounding dialogue which isn't actually 40K/30K.

Something like a script that could be read as being from the point of view from a non-Imperial human civilisation the has had limited contact with the Imperium but has not as yet had official diplomatic "First Contact".

They could then mention the Earth, Laser Weaponry, and Enhanced Soldiers without actually using purely 40K/30K terms, because they probably wouldn't know them.
