I need some help designing my 2000 point list for the Siege of Terra event Cities of Death missions. I'm taking White Scars, so I want to include some bikes (really hoping we get Skilled Rider!) but I'm planning to take some mech tac squads too, and no dreads.

What would you suggest? I'm thinking MM/HF speeders, and a couple of vindicators. A LR Redeemer would be nasty but a huge gamble. Are a squad of sniper scouts worth taking?

Help!

Anything that denies cover is going to payoff. However, with 2+/3+ save floating around, regular flamers aren't always the answer.

A Redeemer would be a big threat, but if you're worried about risking the points in 1 model, perhaps look at speeder squadrens and dreads. Close combat is going to be very bloody.

I second what Whitehorn sad... Redeemers are going to be disgusting!

Other than that I would say tool up for CC, because there are going to be some nasty things floating around!

Multiple shot wepons are going to be good too, with that many cover saves going round it is going to be the rate of fire that is more important than the AP in most cases.

Thanks for the comments.

Here's the list so far:

Bike Squad (8) 2MG & MMAB with Hunt Sergeant Khumblai (Relic Blade and allows one assault after turbo-boosting) 335*
2 Land Speeder Tornadoes MMHF 140
Tactical Squad (10) PF PG PC & Rhino 245*
Tactical Squad (10) PF F PC & Rhino 235*
Scout Squad (5) PF & Land Speeder Storm HF 160*
Scout Squad (5) PF & Land Speeder Storm HF 160*
Terminator Assault Squad (5) 4LCs 1THSS & Land Raider Redeemer MM 450*
Vindicator SS 125
Vindicator SS 125

In the event pack it says that all non-vehicle troops and elites are scoring, so all marked * can score. I can also combat squad the bikes and tacs for more scoring units.

I'm thinking of taking the following 3 stratagems: Medicae Facility (allows FNP for the base holding tac squad); Siege Shells (vindicators can demolish buildings!); and Rappelling Lines (the bikes can't go to upper floors, so I'll drop off the scouts on the top floors).

Thoughts?

+Edit+ The PFs are there to deal with dreadnoughts, which I expect to face a lot in CoD. I've also got 25 points spare.

+Edit 2+ I've just realised that I need to take an HQ choice - back to the drawing board!

I prefer MMs on Storms, though you have 2 on the Tornados. In your setup you are a little lacking in ranged anti-tank, with everything shooting 24.

Not sure how effective Vindicators will be in CoD as anything you manage to hit is likely to get a save from cover.

I was thinking the HF on the Storms helps to clear an objective prior to the scouts assaulting. The lack of ranged AT is balanced by the fast meltas, which would seem better in CoD due to cover saves against ranged weapons.

I was thinking the vindicators ignore dangerous terrain and can just keep moving while throwing out pie plates, so something has to die eventually. Maybe I should drop them?

Here's the revised list (2000):

Captain with Bike and RB 165
Bike Squad (8) PF 2MG and MMAB 310
LS Tornado MMHF 70
Tac Squad (10) PG PC Rhino 220
Tac Squad (10) PW F PC Rhino 225
Scout Squad (5) PF and LS Storm HF 160
Scout Squad (5) PF and LS Storm HF 160
Vindicator SS 125
Vindicator SS 125
TAS (5) 4LCs THSS and LR Redeemer 440

+Edit+ Some small changes in wargear. Are the scout PFs worth taking?

Hmm, I've been thinking of a change in focus. Although the Redeemer and TAS are a great hammer unit, I'm a bit concerned they'll never get to where they need to be, and are too vulnerable to meltas. They seem like a better unit in 2500 points rather than 2000.

Given that one of the main problems with bikers in CoD is their inability to climb ruins, I really like the idea of the vindicators flattening the ruins, which also leaves the unit in the rubble more concentrated for flamer hits.

A rough 2000 list is something like:

Captain Bike RB
Bike Squad (8+AB) PF 2MG MM*
Tac Squad (10) PW PG PC Rhino*
Jetbike Storm Seer*
3 LS Tornadoes MMHF
2 Vindicators SS
Bike Squad (8+AB) PW 2F HB*
Sternguard Squad (10) 2HF Rhino*
Scout Squad (5) 4SR HB Camo*

Still with Siege Shells and Medicae Facility, and I have a spare stratagem - maybe Fuel Dump. * are scoring.

How does this look?

Nice looking list, but just a thought, instead of Landspeeders tornadoes with Multimeltas or heavy flamers why not take Attack bike with multi meltas. They are cheaper plus as you well know if they move a full 24" you get a 3+ inv save. You will be able to get up to bases quicker than Vindicators and you would not be picked off as easy.

I was thinking that the Land Speeders were more versatile, since they have the heavy flamers, and they ignore terrain during movement, but maybe Attack Bikes would be more survivable.

I had forgotten that I need both an HQ and a named character from the event pack, so I'm thinking I'll take Jubal Khan.

The Vindicators are not that reliable at taking down buildings, so I was thinking of taking a 3rd - just to make sure!

Okay, latest revision...

Jubal Khan 215
Bike Squad (8+AB) PF 2MG MM 310
Bike Squad (8+AB) PF 2PG MM 320
Tac Squad (10) PF PG PC Rhino 245
Tac Squad (10) PG PC Rhino 220
Storm Seer on Jetbike 145
Jetbike Squad (4) PW 2MG 170
Vindicator SS 125
Vindicator SS 125
Vindicator SS 125

2000 points. Up to 10 scoring units (with event rules) and decent control of my reserves.

Max vindicators to ensure that even if the buildings aren't demolished, if I'm taking dangerous terrain tests a lot, then so is my opponent. I've ditched the flamers for two reasons - firstly you have to be very close to use them effectively and I'll be trying to outrange people, and secondly against marines most weapons that ignore cover still allow armour saves.
