“The Emperor has abandoned us, my sons. He has abandoned me, as I always knew he would. My own brothers have set themselves against me, ME, who ensured unquestioned compliancy on countless worlds, ME, to whom my father promised the stars and gave the dregs.
My own home has fallen so far since I took my leave…that dark jewel of order has been corrupted once again, just as this pitiful empire shall soon rot. So go, my sons, and show to my deluded father what he has wrought. Sate your desires. Bleed humanity dry…”

-Night Haunter, shortly before the destruction of Nostramo

Hey guys, welcome to my new project log. Now that the Word Bearers are nearing completion I felt that a bigger, more challenging army would be rewarding, so here I am happily leaping onto the truescale bandwagon with the Night Lords. I’m planning a small force to start with AdMech allies using the Grey Knights codex, and hopefully expanding into a full army. The army will be set around the time of Curze’s censure, when the Legion was becoming truly brutal, and will include plenty of equipment, terror markings, trophies, and victims.

Here’s the first four Night Lords, all very WIP. Still trying to figure out how I want to do the torsos so these are all different methods I’ve seen across the forums.

if you want some cool inspiration check out Goya's horrors of war. The chapman brothers actually used the old plastic german army men to make dioramas depicting the scenes, very disturbing and dark - perfect for Cruze's kidz.

Awesome! Only last night I was scratching about the forums looking for inspiration for my own fledgling warband (am I missing something or are there virtually no pre-/heresy era Night Lords armies, and not many 40k ones either?) and lo and behold this morning here you are! ninja.gif

Studs look ace, and the devastator is intimidating!

I shall be following this with interest! smile.gif

Looking good - the truescaling looks awesome, and your choice of thread title made me click straight here.

Wow, thanks for the encouragement guys! I got these guys mostly finished save shoulderpads, and the base bits for my skitarii. I should have pics tomorrow.

King Fluff, Goya really did some interesting stuff, I remember learning about him in school. I need to find some good civilian models for this.

Ray, your Night Lords really finalized this plan when I played against you so thanks!

Pacific, thanks! Hopefully these guys will be far superior to the Word Bearers. Or at least in the proper armor...

Lunasteve, I've been considering doing some subtle battle damage but with their shock warfare I may just go straight bloody instead of dinged-up like your LW are. I will probably do a mix between sculpted and painted Legion icons.

Little update today, I got the three guys to the point where I am ready to paint them (except bases). I also have the test base for the Skitarii done and am trying to figure out how I want to do everything else. I'm thinking an urban basing theme, with the army stalking through the streets hunting people. Might do a display board as I go to keep sidewalks and road lines in context. So here are the Night Lords:

The Skitarii will be based on Stormvermin bodies. The heads are, IIRC, Kolony Rebel Heads from Pig Iron. The arms are bugging me since the bodies are smaller than I had anticipated. I think the Space Marine arms actually fit the best, but I want to use the Catachan arms since SM bits would probably look funny on these guys no matter how they're painted.

And a scale shot:

The list I'm building up to now is 1000 points of counts-as Grey Knights:
Coteaz [Archmagos]
Vindicare [assassin]
3 weapon Servitors, 1 Jokaero [Sagitarii]
11 Warriors, carapace, bolters, 3 plasma guns, 1 Jokaero, Chimera [Hypaspists]
10 GKT, incinerator, psycannon, psybolt, MC Hammer [Night Lords squad]

I think that's quite enough for one post. What do you think?

These are looking excellent!

Can we see a better pic of the Skitarii with Catachan arms?

Not sure if this may be an option, but have you tried Necromunda gang arms? I think they may be slightly smaller than the Catachan arms, if you are worried that they look too big.

Otherwise loving your work. biggrin.gif

Damn those Skitarii look great! In fact, everything is looking rather nifty so far!

Are you planning on keeping a level of individuality with each marine? I think it's rather a nice touch so far.

Here you go Laurie, they're just blutacked on:

Arden, are the Necromunda arms separate? I thought most of them were solid sculpts.

Pacific, thanks! I'm definitely going for individuality in the Marines. With so much work going into each they should have their own character.

Ah, you might have something there, as it would appear that my remaining arms all appear to be righties.

But there may have been more right than left in the kit to allow for arming variations.

Here's a scale pic if you want. Top left are scout and Marine arms. The rest are Necro gang arms.

I like the Catachan arms, I think they work just fine!

The plastic Necromunda arms were all righties, but there were a few 'double handed' rifles with left hands on as well. Goliath might be a bit bit, but Orlocks would look good.

Thanks Arden, but I think I'll stick with Catachan. I think enough of those Necromunda ones would be way too hard to source anyhow, even if they had left arms as well.
