Leaked Dark Angels models: http://blog.spikeybits.com/2012/12/news-da...dels-codex.html

I'm not sure about them, there are some interesting bits here and there, but overall a lot of the models seem rather ridiculous to me. Especially those flyers/landspeeders.

I think I'll stick to Forge World and independent stuff...

Some of it looks nice, although in the vaguely tonka-toy style GW seems to be going for these days. Really like the modded Storm Talon, but think the Land Speeder actually looks worse than the first ever LS (the one made from a deodorant bottle!)

THat land speeder... Ugh unsure.gif It wouldn't be so terrible if they moved that gunner back into the passengers seat. The extra engines also seem tacked on but that can be forgiven i guess...

Termies: Not bad, About what i expected so im not wowwed.

The Flier: Hmmm, looks like a modified version of the storm talon. I really like it though.

Belial: Again not bad.

All in all a solid release (except for that awful speeder). However theres nothing to really wow me into buying the book (Im not gonna pay 60$ for a codex when i dont play the army)

Still happy to stick with FW 30k, although I can see a few useful bits - the bike apothecary and variant mk6 helmets will be useful, and I have to have those censer maces and morning star for my HH Death Guard!

Theres some nice bits in there that will be worth getting from the bitz sites and some details worth making press moulds of but generally they're either underwhelming(Deathwing & Ravenwing) or downright aweful (Everything else)

What was the design decision behind that landspeeder? It seems every release now has to have something that is a really epic fail! The Chaos one had the Felldrake, and to a lesser extent the Maulerfiend, and now where treated to this abomination...

Ill stick to FW, even though my local GW manager hates me for it...

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only weird-ass design choices!

As ever when there's a new release I know if I can last two or so months from release date I'll get over the shiny factor and won't waste precious FW monies, and yes, the Mk VI helms and apothecary bits are lovely, but the rest is too 40k to justify (to myself) that I can buy it and convert it. Obviously if you're building 30k Dark Angels, please go right ahead... laugh.gif

Is is me or are Belial's legs/feet too straight, parallel-wise? Seems unnatural.

And I think that Storm Talon-with-wings is much better than the actual Storm Talon, and will have a detrimental effect on that model's sales. I know which I'd buy!

I know I'm usually one of the first to complain about the cartooning-up of recent 40k models, but that landspeeder...I feel dirty for saying this but...ridiculous as it is, I actually really like it. ohmy.gif

I can see it as some sort of floating command operations centre, which is very Legion-y. It would suit the White Scars for one, and would look good in the red, purple or yellow of the Blood Angels, Emperor's Children and Imperial Fists respectively. In fact it would be quicker to say the legions it wouldn't suit - Iron Warriors, Space Wolves, Death Guard (unfortunately, although I might do it anyway).

It looks like the Master of Signals' natural choice of ride anyway.

With a bit of FW armour or helms sprinkled around for pre-heresification, and maybe an autocannon instead of the assault cannon...and don't even get me started if I thought I could get a guardsman in that gunner's position...damn you GW, why must you be forever forcing me to split my money!

In fact, that's the only stumbling block. I'd happily pay £30 for one, but £40, if that is the real price, seems a little steep. It's only a glorified 'speeder, after all, and they're £18.50. Perhaps there'll be lots of sprue options, modelling wise.

tl;dr - cool stuff, not useful for 30k; Speeder is so wrong yet so right. tongue.gif

Looking at the LS Vengeance I was on the very cusp of adding my vomit to the collective spew-puddle, but as soon as Brother Handro mentioned putting guardsmen in there my choler settled enormously. I'd actually quite like to - not without some guilt you understand - convert one to go alongside my Imperial Army detachment. Don't ask me why, I just think it would go really well as something quirky and 30k for the mortals to play around with...

Belial, like most of the Space Marine characters, looks relatively good in my opinion. Standard.

Those Deathwing Knights are pretty badass I must admit, and the censers are lovely and gothic. As with most of GWs recent releases their paint job is a little on the bright-and-child-friendly side for my dim and dismal perception of the universe, but hell that's only a paint job.

I actually love that flyer. I have a Storm Talon in my PH White Scars list, and luckily I haven't actually bought it yet. I shall be waiting to buy and proxy this instead! I'm so glad the DA heraldry on it seems to be optional, which actually makes me think it might be an alternative flyer for vanilla Marines when their new codex comes out. Don't really mind either way to be honest.

The 40K-ers in Denmark have gotten their WD's already, whilst we have to wait for the 5th of Jan.
But one of them has been kind enough to put an outline out for us.

QUOTE
Dark Talon: Rift cannnon (no rules sited), hurricane bolters and stasis bomb (one use only, dropped on an enemy for - 3 WS and - 3 I)

Niphilim fighter: heavy bolters, blacksword missiles (no rules sited, but the battle report later in the issue mentions that the fighter is supposed to be good at taking on enemy flyers, so I guess the missiles are for that), avenger mega bolter/lascannon.

Deathwing Command: multiple options incl. apothecary and standard bearer. A "Champion" wielding the "massive halberd of Caliban" is mentioned and there's a picture (no rules sited).

Deathwing Knights: Terminators with WS5, Storm Shields, power mauls and special rules, incl. Hammer of
Wrath and "Smite" which makes them strike at S10 AP2 for one round. BTW both DW terminators and the knights can be fielded in units of 10 now! Oh and the DW can take plasma cannon and they have USR "split fire"!!!!

Land Speeder Vengeance: AC/HB, plasma storm battery (mentioned in the battle report to be able to fire either 3 small blasts or 1 large blast, I'm guessing plasma stats).

Darkshroud: HB/AC, Shrouded USR and conferes Stealth to allies within 12", and it has a rule that gives units +1 to charge distance (as far as I can read - the picture is quite small and hard to read, so perhaps it's plus 1 to something else).

RW Black Knights: plasma talons (instead of bolters, no rules sited, and not being called twin-linked plasma gun/pistols leads me to believe the rules could be a bit different), corvus hammer (no rules sited, but I guess they are power mauls), they also have the option of a RW grenade launcher.

Sammael: pretty much the same as before, as far as I can tell, though with a 4+ inv.save (which is confered to the land speeder if he chooses that instead) - can't remember if that's new.

Dreadnaught: has option for dual twin-autocannons, venerable dreadnaught has "DW vehicle" rule
Rules mentioned:

DW knights and black knights have a rule called "Inner Circle" and in the battlereport it is mentioned as giving them some form of re-roll in close combat.

New rule calles DW Vehicle

DW assault rule is mentioned in the battle report as ensuring a DS in turns 1 or 2 with no dice roll needed, decided by the DA player before the game begins.

There are more special rules mentioned but no rules sited.
DW, DW command and knights are in the same box.
RW command and RW black knights are in the same box.

This was what I could decern, but there are probably loads more if you really study the WD.

I feel with you guys "over there" who have to wait until the 5th of January for your copy of WD, so I hope my little run down will at least give you something over the holidays.

...and happy holidays once you get to it.

Regards
Lars Emil

Sadly this is another release for 40k that leaves me feeling all kinds of mixed emotions. I want to be really excited as the Dark Angels were my first force. The Raven wing bikers and both sets for the Death wing are great in my opinion, but Belial is is bit lack lustre in the positioning department.

In general I have a bit of a problem with marine fighter aircraft. This is mainly because I've never got the impression that they engaged in that theatre of war. Designwise I think they are al right but they don't strike me as astartes vehicles.

The landspeeder vengeance......its awful. I can't really articulate all the things that are wrong with it but if the imperium can build large antigrav craft like this why can they no longer produce jetbikes.

I like the Deathwing a lot, and the flier is pretty nice. I agree that the land speeder and Belial look awkward; perhaps that's the photos.

I liked the old Asmodai model a lot (he and Ezekiel were some of my favourite miniatures and inspired me to collect Dark Angels when originally released in the 1990s); the new one doesn't speak to me so much.

It's sad to see that those 2nd edition era special characters are still superior to many of the character models being released today. Look at the Chaos range for example. Kharn, Ahriman and Fabius Bile are still superior to those new models.
