I thought I'd post an idea I've been mulling over for 'counts-as' scouts from the Iron Hands legion. I've been putting together some Mechanicum stuff and that led to the thought of having a lone marine accompanied by robots/enhanced humans of some kind equipped for scouting roles--Iron Hands springing to mind as one of the more appropriate Legions. The problem I can forsee is that people will just look at the squad and think it's a techmarine and servitors, rather than a scout squad, so I'm looking for ways to get over that. So I'd probably make the Sergeant not look too like a techmarine, but for the other squad members I need to work out how to tread the line between them just looking like regular scouts and just looking like servitors. Perhaps some combination of regular scouts with servitor parts?

Any thoughts?

If you use the regular scouts too much, then they'll just be scouts. Might be an idea to add a few antennae and a bolt carbine to the space marine leading the squad (ala CCG artwork).

I 'd stick with the servitor Idea just use things like Camo netting and Sniper rilfes on them. You can get over that look with a Camo type paint job to and stay away form that bright red they normally have them in. Maybe work some of the catachan jungle fighters bits into the Servitor.

I'm in the process of making some mech-ratlings with the plastic Goblins (which are new to me, but old now, as they were released in ~1999 and have since been superseded--shows again how long I was out of the hobby) with Cadian arms and Forgeworld servo-skulls as a head base. So I was thinking of something along those lines, although trying not to look too scout or too servitor.

Very cool idea - I modelled up some dreadnought sized bases with little vignettes for City Fight stratagem markers... one had a recon sergeant directing two servoskulls, used as either a Command Centre or Listening Post.

Pics when I get the camera again. None are painted but they might give you inspiration.
